2021 World Team Trophy - General Info

So if NBC/ Peacock didnt purchase the broadcast rights, I wonder if there will be a youtube ISU stream in the US? Had the World team challange cup in Spokane in 2016....it was lots of fun....but only lasted a year...

NBC have the rights through 2026 as per the press release.

Most Extensive Linear Programming Schedule in History - Including 80+ Hours of Content Each Year

NBC Sports Group to be Home of U.S. Figure Skating & ISU Through 2026

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 23, 2018 - U.S. Figure Skating and NBC Sports Group have partnered on a media rights agreement that provides NBC Sports Group with exclusive media rights to premier domestic and international figure skating events through 2026, both parties announced today.

“This is an exciting day for U.S. Figure Skating,” Sam Auxier, U.S. Figure Skating President said. “The opportunity for us to not only continue, but to expand upon our strong relationship with NBCUniversal, the U.S. media home of the Olympic Games, is one that makes complete sense for our organization. Ensuring that domestic and international figure skating events have maximum exposure is a priority to us and this new agreement will have a lasting positive impact on our ability to develop figure skating at every level in the United States.”

Each season during the partnership, NBC Sports Group will present an unprecedented 80+ hours of coverage, including 30+ hours of figure skating coverage on NBC, with an additional 50+ hours airing on NBCSN. In addition, original programming plus encores of NBC and NBCSN figure skating coverage will be presented on the Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. Coverage will showcase the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, including Skate America, ISU World Championships, ISU Four Continents Championships, the European Championships and the World Team Trophy.

“Figure skating has long captivated the American sports fan as again demonstrated by the audiences that consistently gathered to watch these incredibly talented athletes during the PyeongChang Olympics,” said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics. “We are excited to continue our partnership with U.S. Figure Skating, and to expand coverage of the sport’s marquee events, increasing year-round exposure of figure skating and speed skating.”

“We have valued our now decade-long relationship with NBC Sports Group and we are extremely happy with this extension,” U.S. Figure Skating Executive Director David Raithsaid. “Knowing that our goals are aligned with those of our media partner is critical to our future success and to the great exposure for our skaters and the sport for the next eight years.”

Building on U.S. Figure Skating’s current relationship with NBC Sports Group that began with the 2007-08 figure skating season, the U.S. Championships will continue to receive live weekend coverage of all four discipline finals on NBC, including three hours of primetime coverage on the network. In total, NBC will carry 10 hours from the U.S. Championships, including the Skating Spectacular, while NBCSN will provide extensive coverage of the event’s short programs earlier in the week.

With the new agreement between U.S. Figure Skating and NBC Sports Group, U.S. Figure Skating will sell the national commercial media inventory across NBC and NBCSN for the figure skating competitions covered by the agreement.

In addition, as part of the agreement, NBCSN will carry four hours of coverage of ISU Speed Skating and Short Track Speed Skating World Championship events.

More announcements related to digital extensions of the partnership are expected soon, and full programming schedules for both figure skating and speed skating will be announced later this summer.

Yeah, that was enormous fun. Really a shame they did not repeat it.

I'm super happy WTT does take place, though. I didn't believe it. Happy with the Russian team, sad that Piper & Paul won't be there. Looking forward to the 'side show' by Team Russia, although their theatre from 2017 will be hard to beat, the last gang wasn't quite as inventive.

We will also be running another prediction contest for this event :)
I hope this time entries can be made up to two hours prior to competition start as it used to be. I was well in time for Worlds, but my 'Add' button had already disappeared...:(
(Never mind, I think I would have only won a bronze medal ;))

Does anyone know when ISU will post the final and complete individual entries? Is there a date... ?

Dang, I really wish that USFS sent Amber instead... it would’ve been great to see her programs again!! I’m happy to see Jason again! And I’m excited to see Roman, Nam, and Gabby! Also hoping for redemption skates from Rika and Kaori. I’m mixed on Yuzu competing, since he has asthma and this event (1) is international with no quarantine for other countries and (2) is held with an audience. Also, aren’t him and Shoma (and the other members of the Japanese team) in quarantine for two weeks? How will they practice? Every other country gets to practice at home for a few weeks while I think the Japanese team quarantines... I imagine they will be able to practice but that is so weird that only they quarantine.

I got this from the Yuzu thread about the Japan team quarantine before WTT: Well, according to this article published on March 15 (https://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20210315/k10012915801000.html) ,the athletes who came back from other countries can practice during their quarantine, but during the period, they have to receive three to four PCR tests. They won't be allowed to contact with the public or go outside of their accommodation and practice area.

Is the audience international? Thought possibly it would be only Japanese residents like the Olympics in Tokyo.

I was too! From what I understand, Japan gets the final choice on who goes. They base it off of Worlds and World Standing. So USFSA needs to send Amber out more to competitions where points are earned so she can get higher world standings!

They're going to be taking loads of COVID-19 tests. For example, they all got one taken when they were about to reenter Japan which came back negative, and I'm guessing they'll have to take several others to prove that they didn't get COVID at Worlds.

Yeah, I really wish she was sent especially since next year is the Olympic year and she needs that “body of work” that USFS seems to value so much. At this rate, Amber just has to kill the Grand Prix because she wasn’t given Worlds or WTT...

Thanks for that information!! Also, yeah I’m going to assume that the audience will just be domestic (or at least hopefully it is!!)

I just hope everyone remains safe and healthy  WTT seems like the least necessary event of this whole season though lol and also it’s so close to worlds that I hope no one contracted the virus there and brings it to WTT. Isn’t WTT in, what, three weeks or so?

April 15-18. The Japanese quarantine will be over probably April 12th since they returned on Monday and it's a 14 day quarantine.

This doesn’t make much sense to me. Japanese skaters who got back from Worlds having to quarantine for 14 days makes sense... but athletes from other countries - who went to Worlds, back to their own country, then fly to Japan- don’t have to quarantine upon their arrival to Japan?
