But then, they wouldn't be using nationals of the previous season, and worlds of the previous season for the primary tier of BoW. 😅 ...

USFS is not using 2021 Nationals for the primary tier of BOW for 2022 Olympic selection.

(USFS also did not include the previous year's Nats in the primary tier of BOW for 2018 Olympic selection or 2014 Olympic selection.)

This post reminded me that when Bradie won Nationals and went to the Olympics... she was an almost complete unknown at this time in the season. ...

We shouldn't discount the possibility that there is someone out there off our radar who is preparing to do just that.

By this point in the 2017-18 season, Bradie already had received attention first as a frontrunner for the third Skate America spot, and then as the official choice of USFS for the third slot. She had won gold at Philadelphia International and bronze at Lombardia.
Compared to someone like Ashley Wagner, Bradie was not well known.
But my opinion is that Bradie was not completely off the radar either.

If anyone at this point in the current Olympic season is analogous to Bradie at this point in the 2017-18 season, I think it would be Audrey Shin.

ETA:
The post that I have quoted from TontoK is from Sep 30.
If it had been from July instead, my reaction to "at this time in the season" would have been stronger agreement.

He made an IG post after he returned stating he had an injured before he left and basically decided to go regardless . I don’t believe he notified the Fed and they made that decision. He was pretty apologetic on his IG post.

We do not actually know whether or not Vincent notified USFS, so the key word here is "believe."
You don't "believe" that he did; I do "believe" that he did; and none of us actually know one way or the other.

(My opinion also is that I don't think that "apologetic" is quite the right word for Vincent's post-Worlds post on Instagram.
I thought his post was more about looking forward and moving forward.
To his credit, his post was absolutely forthright in acknowledging his failure at Worlds.
For the public at large, his post was the first time that we learned of his pre-Worlds injury.)

Totally agree about Shin. She is absolutely in there imo, but I fear she is having a Russian Women moment, she will be forgotten...

This is probably a dumb question but why couldn't Lindsay do the senior GP this year instead of the junior one?

In response to the recent chatter above -

After seeing the results of the JO, I DO think Alysa has a long shot at the Olympic podium because her marks stack up well against the JPN ladies at the moment. Alysa can also beat the woman whom likely is the #4 at Euros - Louena Hendrickx. The KOR ladies like Young You have not been all that stellar recently and the top CAN ladies are still developing. Tursy retired. So, IF someone like Trusova is representing RUS and gets overly ambitious on the ice, it COULD happen ... But I'm saying it's a long shot.
I thought Hendrickx is dealing with injury, correct? She is going to skate at Finlandia soon! Can't wait! Beijing doesn't allow any foreign spectators, not sure how this COVID policy impact those young Russian girls who cannot bring family with them for competition aboard. On the other hand, I think it's advantage for any skaters who have Chinese friends/relatives/family can attend the game and cheer on them (e.g. Nathan, Vincent.....).

I heard the restrictions would be more stringent than Tokyo. Are they planning to allow any spectators?

Her ranking and her SB were too low get 2 GPs, she could have been the host pick but that's all. Doing the JGP and challengers will allow her to compete more and get a higher SB.
But where would the season's best have come from, with no junior season last year? Were they going off the 2019/20 season instead?

Yes. They will allow fully vaccinated spectators from China’s mainland only. No foreign spectators are allowed. Nathan's mom grew up in Beijing and his Chinese relatives should be able to attend the games. Nathan, Vincent, Karen and Alysa should feel grateful that Winter Olympics is going to hold in Beijing instead of Russia/Japan this year. lol

honestly i would *love* if a US woman trained with Eteri. it would be super interesting to see if they would flourish in that environment and if they'd be miles better than everyone else in the US. it would be really cool to watch.
This has crossed my mind but a couple of things - 1) Visa requirements for the skater + family and language barriers in Russia would be major issues. It's not like Eteri would leave Moscow; 2) More importantly, I will just say that American teens are probably not conditioned to deal w/ someone like Eteri and generally speaking, the Russian system of negative reinforcement. I'm not saying all, but most Americans couldn't or wouldn't deal well with it.

oh yeah i agree there would be a lot of hoops to jump through, just theoretically speaking.

although, Eteri speaks pretty good English :)

So would the American live with Eteri where they would always be with someone they could speak English to? It can be pretty isolating to live in a country where you don't speak or possibly even understand the language.

i only said that to make a point there would be some middle ground. obviously a skater going to another country where the primary language is not english should at least try to learn that language. no different than someone like Hanyu skating in Canada with an english speaking coach.

i'm sure this will never happen anyway so we don't need to take it seriously.

Who needs English when you can communicate with a shared love for vodka? /Terrible joke
