Senior men

Just came home for lunch after watching Sr. Men

1. Fedor Andreev 67.55 - he is definately back, landed 3f/3t, put a hand down on the 3A (landed perfectly in warm-up) and 3lz. He seems to be skating better than ever!
2. Chris Mabee 61.48 - usual performance 3f/3t hand down on 3t, 3a rotated but didn't stick the landing, 3lz. He didn't look to happy about his performance.
3. Joey Russel 58.32 - 3f/2lp, 3 lz, 2a, a bit slow but polished performance
4. Jeremy Ten 58.10 - he skated 3rd and I arrived too late
5. Ken Rose 56.?? - 3f/3t, 2a, 3lz
6. Cedric Demers 53.65 - 3a, 3lz/2t, 2f, good performance related better to the audience than in the past
7. Maxime-Billy Fortin 52.84 - I also missed his performance but I was sitting beside his father or coach (I'm not sure which!) and he said the combo was off
8. Gary Wong 52.15 - 3f, 3s/2t, 2a step out, I really liked his performance, he pretended he was a pirate and really carried the theme throughout the performance, plus he had nice edges.
9. Keegan Murphy 52.09 - 2lz/3t, 2a, 3f, nice flying sit spin but boring program
10. Marc-Andre Craig 51.06 - 3a step out, 3f/2t, 3lz fall, trip on footwork, not the performance he can do (he was much better in warm-up)
11. Tyler Cochrane - 3lz/2t, 3f, 2a
12. Ian Martinez 50.53 - 3lz/3t, 2a, 2f, entertaining skate to latin music
13. Sylvain Bouillere 48.?? - 3lz stumble 2t, 3lp, 2a
14. Dylan Moscovitch 47.82 - 3t, 3lp/2t, 2a, entertaining skate
15. Justin Piette 47.39 - 3lz/2t, 3lp, 2a, good expression
fyi - Bryce Davison did not compete

wow, thanks so much for the update.

I can see Chris Mabee disappointed. National is coming up and boy, he's gotta put himself together to compete with the likes of Patrick Chan.

Maxime-Billy Fortin is so talented and somehow rarely on top of his game.

Marc-Andre Craig must have been very disappointed as well.

Wow, good for Fedor. I'll admit, I expected him to be a bit of a disaster here after all that time. Was his program good choreo wise? Too bad for Chris, and for Maxim. Chris needs to up his game, and Maxim is usually a beautiful jumper. Does ne need this event to qualify? BTW, was Bryce injured?;

I was at the skating events the last 2 days. It was the first skating competition I have seen in person. I don't live far from the rink so I thought I might as well check it out. Megan and Craig PBd their FS and ended up winning! FS was 107.??. I saw Craig when I was in the hall and I said to him "nice skate" or something lame like that then a few minutes later he came back and I asked him if I could take a pic of him. He went and got Megan and got someone to take a pic of all of us and this was right after they won. Of course I wished them good luck at nationals plus it was Megans Bday. I had run into Jessica Dube and Cynthia as I was finishing eating and wished Jessica good luck in grand prix final, worlds, nationals etc. I had been seeing Bryce often in the halls between rinks during yesterday and today and finally got the courage to go over and ask if I could take a pic of him. Too bad he didn't skate in the am. He was over by the skates table maybe needing new skates? I told Bryce I came in the morning and was disappointed he didn't skate (withdrew). Then I wished him luck at the grand prix final, worlds, nationals "and all that". Fedor did have a really good skate especially for having time off. I was so bored during the ladies (falling asleep) that I left for an hour and a half (skipped 10 skaters) then came back for the finally few groups. It was funny seeing Sean Wirtz, Kris Wirtz, Kristy Wirtz, Brian Orser, Ben Ferraira in person after watching them on tv. Too bad I can't go for the men's final program--I have to work.

The results at the arena didn't quite match mine;) Should be:
7. Gary Wong
8. Keegan Murphy
9. Maxime-Billy Fortin (51.84)
11. Ian Martinez
12. Tyler Cochrane
14. Justin Piette

WOW, I really appreciate all of your comments............I am not there and as such, having all you guys provide details is fantastic:clap::clap::clap::yes:

Why can't SC post results sooner? They still have not posted results from the mens sp & that finished hours ago:frown::frown:

What happened to Kevin Reynolds?????:ohwell:

I hope Phaneuf and dube did great in their skates............:clap::bow:

I hope Davison is not injured because ....obviously, D & D are Canada's best pairs hope for Worlds:bow:

I think Kevin Renolds would get a bye because he did GP in France, but I am not sure. If I remember right he skate quite well at the GP, land 2 quads.

Just back from watching Sr. Mens Free
1. Andreev 193.50 (125.95 free) - same Latin program as 2005 when he last competed at Canadians (6th in Sr). He landed 3a, 2f/3t, 3lz/2t/2lp, 3lz, 3lp, 3s
2. Jeremy Ten 178.21 (120.11 free) - he is a small guy, wore all black, had good spring in his jumps, good transitions and a really nice variation of a camel spin. He skated to classical music and interpreted it well. 3lz (step), 3f, 3lp, 3f/1t, 3lz/2t/1lp, 3s/1t
3. Mabee 170.04 (108.56 free) - he has a lot of resting points in this program. 3f/3t, 3a (step), 3lz, 3lp fall, lots of popped jumps
4. Marc-Andree Craig 169.51 (118.45 free) - military outfit & music, well-constructed program and well-trained athlete. 3a fall, 3f/2t, 3lz, 3lp, 3s, 3f, 3t
5. Ken Rose 166.13 (109.38 free) - big band music, good presentation and program. 3f/3t, 3lz, 3lp, 3s/2t/2lp, 3lz fall, 3t
6. Ian Martinez 161.91 (111.38 free) - latin music, 3lz/2t/2t, 3f/3t, 3lp, 3t
7. Cedric Demers 161.75 (108.10 free) - classical music with good interpretation. 3a, 3lz/2t, 3lp, 3lz, 3f (2 foot), 3t/2t, 3t (step)
8. Keegan Murphy 157.98 (105.89 free)
9. Joey Russell 155.23 (96.91 free)
10. Maxime-Billy Fortin 154.10 (102.26 free) - landed 2 triple axels, but no transitions or connecting moves and no personality (his programs are usually entertaining)
11. Gary Wong 151.09 (98.94 free)
12. Ehren Jaleel 146.56 (102.34 free)
13. Karolin Metivier
14. Craig Finney
15. Dylan Moscovitch - what a ham! he warmed up wearing a traditional outfit and then when he appeared to do his program he had on a green vest and hat which made him look like Robinhood plus he had used eyeliner to paint a mustache on himself! He took off the hat to compete and the choregraphy was more like a show program than a competitive program! Very good and very funny!!!
16. Sylvain Bouillere
17. Justin Piette
18. Cole Stanbra
19. Simon Beaudoin
20. Jean-Simon Legare
21. Tyler Cochrane
22. Chad Mathieu
23. Jonathan Gugulyn

18 men are allowed to compete in Canadians
Buttle, Sawyer, Chan, Chipeur, Reynolds, maybe Sandhu??? did not compete but have byes. So either the top 12 or 13 have qualified depending if Sandhu is skating.

Yes, you're right, Mabee does have a bye to Nationals

I'm hoping Dylan Moscovitch somehow sneaks into nationals for singles.. I'm not completely sure about the numbers but its looking like he might be one spot short.. I totally wanted to see his LP live at nationals :)

7 men ( Buttle, Mabee, Sandhu , Reynolds , Chan , Chipheur and Sawyer ) have byes to nationals.

Sandhu has his because he medalled at nationals last year. The other get byes due to having GP assignments.

With 18 spots max at nationals, that means that 11 men can qualify out of the challenge. So with Mabee competing here, anyone in the top 12 here gets to go to nationals.

Anybody knows if Sandhu decides to compete or not?

The other question, why would Chris Mabee decide to go for the challenge; wouldn't he be better off preparing for the nationals without having to drain his competitive juice in yet, another competition? I guess he wants to have a feel for what he is competing against at the nationals?

Andreev won?! :eek:Wow, I'm impressed. I expected him to be rusty this season. Guess I was wrong. too bad for Chris and Joey.:ohwell:

Wow, go Andreev! He posted a big score after such a long absence and short training period. He seems to have all six triples back, including a 3F/3T (from SP). That's remarkable! Are there protocols available?
