Lovely interview with Alysa in preparation before Skate Canada. Sounds like she is ready to surprise us with more difficult technical content this weekend 😜

ahhhh I know I shouldn't try to read tea leaves like this when we'll get real updates from SCI practices tomorrow but I do feel like she wouldn't mention training quads if she didn't plan to attempt one soon.....

Randomly brought up figure skating today and to my surprise, a bunch of people knew who Alysa was. They remember them from when she was on the Jimmy Fallon show. Thanks to Tik Tok, Amber is also very popular.

Me too! I'm so looking forward to see Alysa to debute 4lutz in LP at SC! Sounds like she is ready. If not, she will still layout more difficult content by putting 3A in BOTH SP and LP. Hope Alysa can land all the big jumps and make the history for this season - first US lady on podium at GP. :)

she is so cute. it's crazy to see how much she's matured and grown since her first national title in the pictures they showed. excited to see how she stacks up against the world's best this weekend. good luck Alysa!

Another nice article about Alysa, written in August after the Cranberry Cup. Sounds like she's definitely hoping to bring back the 4Lz this season: "She needs a consistent triple Axel; it is still in progress. We wanted to try it in this competition in the free skate - it was almost there, almost there. But definitely, [we need to] bring the consistency on that, and bring back the quad Lutz, that is in process. And then, speed, still quality of edges, still working on skating skills, movement. We see her at home every day, and there are moments when we say: 'Wow, that's what we want to see." So we're going to work towards that."

Oh my god, Alysa got chased by a homeless while choreographing her programs at the park because of rink closures during the pandemic 😱

Srsly, this child is so precious and must be protected at all costs. I give Massimo and Jeremy all credit for supporting her training during her lows and highs. Go Alysa!!!

I wasn't surprised that Ashley was chosen over Mirai because Ashley had lots of sponsors/endorsements in 2014 (not in 2018). Ashley had won medals at GP that season (BOW) too. Nowadays, Nathan got the most endorsements. I'm pretty sure Nathan will be on Olympics team even if he is not on podium at Nats. Sponsors like Team Toyota, Panasonic and Nike will push USFSA very hard! Just a side note, there are only 2 skaters are selected on Team Toyota for this Olympics season - Nathan and Alysa. So now you know who will get pushed by sponsors on ladies side. :)

At the end, selection for Olympics team is not as simple as what most people think (just win medals at Nats)
Here is where I think the US Fed messed up. Dedicated fans - well, most of them, anyway - knew Wagner’s history and were able to at least have a justification for why the decision was made to deviate from the finish order, even if they didn’t necessarily agree with it. However, the public at large did not. The Fed did not (IMO) adequately explain their reasoning for choosing her to the press and back it up with documented evidence. In other words, their decision-making process, even if sound and effective, was not transparent enough. And when you are vague on your reasoning, that’s when the conspiracy theories flourish.

Sorry, what do you mean by that?
In other words, she (Liu) will have at least some degree of expectation weighing on her when she takes the ice in January and will not have the ability to fly under the radar like Tennell and Edmunds did to get on the Olympic team….

Is there a reason you think that the people in the park were homeless? The story doesn't say that.

And even if they were, Alysa has grown up in the Bay Area and has not led a particularly sheltered life. Certainly at her age I was aware of my surroundings in the big city and the people I might encounter.

Then again, I was an old grouch even at 15:laugh: I do think it is good she had adults with her if she was going to practice there.

Haha, no, but giving that they mentioned this person was barefoot and chasing them I think each one is free to draw conclusions. I think it's fair to compare her experience to other kids at 15 (such as your own 15 y/o experience), but again, she is a figure skating kid. We don't really know how sheltered she was while growing up. Instagram pictures don't portray the reality of her social life. Situations like these happen all the time, but let's not forget that they can escalate into an unfortunate event whether you are old, young, ready to fight or not (and I can recall the tragic event of Denis Ten).

Either way, it seems the experience was funny and nothing too weird happened.

I don't know how accurate these planned program contents are... 3Lz1Eu3F? 3F2A? However, I do think Alysa will definitely attempt two triple-Axels and hopefully the quad-Lutz.

Oh my goodness. I'm having a heart attack now. This layout can put Alysa in first/second place if she lands everything. This layout can also put her in the bottom half if she "pops" the jump like Nebelhorn Trophy. It's super high risk! I really hope that Alysa can nail it! Alysa doesn't want to play it safe, she really wants to "win" the competition. :)

On the other side, there is no harm for Alysa to try this ambitious program. If she bombs GP, she can still go to Beijing with top 5 finish at Nats.
