Ladies Short Program

No, Yu-na's GOE was -3 on the combo, because the second jump is required to be a double (she singled it). Remember how costly this mistake was for Mao over and over in SP's? So you should subtract 5 points on the GOE from her usual +2 GOE on the combo, plus subtract another 4 points for singling the toe (in the base value). That's 9 points lower! Her PB was a perfect skate, surely the PCS there ought to have been substantially high one than this flawed skate. I don't care how beautiful a skater she is, she shouldn't get the top PCS with a botched jump combo compared to all the other skaters who skated clean and smoothly and had no interruptions in their flow/choreography (under-rotation or not, that shouldn't affect the PCS unless it makes the landing obviously jerky).

Caroline's SP was definitely the best of the day. I say she got robbed again. Not that her score is unjust (it's just about right, actually), but giving Mao 59 with only a clean 2A (!!), and Yu-na a 64 with a horribly botched combo, not to mention Carolina Kostner as high of TES as she got since she missed a required jump (2A). I say all the scores were inflated relative to Caroline! (Except maybe poor Kimmie, but she's not badly off either, considering she so under-rotated her 3/3!)

I think Caroline was undermarked, Yu-Na's score is definitely inflated. I guess the judges had to justify giving Mao that ridiculous score in someway. However, other than the botched combo, I thought she had a great skate. Spins were very good. huge 3L. She must have gotten very high GOEs for that. and deservedly so her 3L just shines compared to the others.

Agreed.

After watching Yu-Na's skate, I actually think that besides the botched combo, this was better in EVERY way compared to her Worlds SP last year. Faster spins with better positions, just as expressive, and her other two jumps were picture perfect. While her score was inflated a bit, I can still see her being in first...the basic quality is still superior.

Caroline can't be in first. She missed the unwritten element in the SP--at least a year on the senior level.

The Asians all overmarked. Takahashi, Yu Na, and Mao all jacked up scores. Pairs about to provide more evidence. Definitely something up here.

I don't find any of TES bizzare or over-inflated, except I do think Yukari's could be higher. I'm surprised Yu-na's pcs is higher than Mao's by more than one point tho. Also, when are the judges going to raise Caroline's pcs? Seems like only thing she can do now is to grow a few more inches and cover more ice.
One thing we learned: when both Caroline and Kimmie skate clean, Caroline wins even with pcs almost three points lower.

So much for COP meaning the end to judging conspiracies and controversies. No wonder the sport is in its final breaths of life support.

Every Asian skater so far has been overmarked. I am looking for the same in the pairs. I bet there was some kind of collusion to boost all the Asian skaters at this event. You are right, no wonder this sport is in its final breaths of life support.

Blue dog, you forget that Mao and Yu-na won the last two GPF's in their first senior season.

The judging is totally scandalous. I expected the top ladies to be held up in the PCS, but instead they're being held up in the TES. What's the point of having a short program, if skipping or botching required elements can still leave you leading into the LP or get SB scores?! Get rid of it altogether, or else make the required elements really REQUIRED.

See all those empty seats in the stands? And this is a GP final. With this sort of stupid judging, expect those stands to empty out even more!

I have a feeling the blown up scores of Mao and Kim will come back to haunt them in the FS. The judges will be conservative with them, especially if this becomes a big stink. They might even be a little more lenient on Caroline and the others, which means if they all skate as they did today, Caroline could end up with the gold.

Keep dreaming. This is figure skating.

If Yu-Na put her hands down on the combo, I think the score is too high, but I would still give her first because she is such a stunning skater. At least she didn't fall or miss an element. Mao's score, though, is ridiculous because she missed an entire element!

at least Mao is rightfullly in last place. I have to say that the judgeing seemed fair to me until yu-na. The judges love her. caroline should have been in first. Good good Miss Zhang way to go!!! keep up the good work. (imgine if she wins?)

Besides the Mao's marks, I'm fine with Yu-Na being ahead of CZ. The only difference between YuNa and CZ SPs is the mistake on YuNa's combination. The rest of YuNa's SP is superior to that of CZ. YuNa's LZ and 2A is far superior and text book to those of CZ (flutz & tiny Ax) as well, so should the judges just ignore the other qualities?

It seems like Caroline was also help up as well with ther 3-3 being ratified. Her 3T seemed UD, and she looks REALLY slow on the ice compared to the rest of the ladies.

YuNa seems to own PCS. Even with the mistake on her combo, she sold the program until the very end.

Why even hold a World Championship? Just mail Yu-Na and Mao their dual gold medals and to hell with everyone else. :p

While the ISU is at it, they can go ahead and mail D/S their World gold medal in ice dance.

The last 2 years the GPF has been won by the reining world Jr. Champ in their first Sr. season, whay not 3 years running?

How can explain Carolina Kostner's score then?? She only singled an axel, should be on par with Yu-Na Kim.

Yu-Na kim is a joke.

While they're on it, tell them to mail Kwan and Irina each olympic gold medal:p

Caroline is really growing on me. I didn't think it was gonna happen. Call me crazy but I actually find her torque generating moves (mule kick and all that) really cute!! I'm also pleasantly surprised she keeps landing 3-3.
