Ladies Short Program

How can explain Carolina Kostner's score then?? She only singled an axel, should be on par with Yu-Na Kim.

I don't have problem with CK being behind CZ or YuNa either because I see nothing special about Carolina Kostner's skating. Besides the speed, she does absolutely nothing for me. Her PCS hasn't improved since the day I first saw her.

Yu-Na kim is a joke.

Kostner has the best speed, ice coverage and flow in the world. If Nakano can get 7 in PCS, Kostner deserves 8.

Unlike Mao, Kostner did not make two fatal mistakes, and she's only slightly ahead of Mao.

It's a joke.

Well, I think Yuna maybe got some benefit from Mao.
I mean, Mao's TES is over 31 and you honestly don't agree Yuna's TES should be higher than hers? Come on.:ohwell:

Yuna also screwed her 3-3 at CoC(her score then was 58.something IIRC) but her spins, step and spiral are way better than CoC(in fact, her levels of CoC was ridiculous) so if we consider these things, her score would make more sense...
Hopefully, protocols will clear things up.

Looking at the result, I think the PCScores are pretty close to what they've been getting all season. So I don't have a huge problem with that. But I'm scratching my head over Mao & Yu-Na's TES. I'd say GOE buffer.

Okay, I'll give flow to Mao.

Flow:
Mao
Kostner
Yu Na

I guess we'll just have to disagree. I still put YuNa way before Kostner. In fact, even CZ's flow and transition seems better than Kostner even if CZ is slow.

Like I said before, Kostner is a total blah skaters for me. Her coltish style worked when she was younger, but I can't take it anymore.

Besides the Mao's marks, I'm fine with Yu-Na being ahead of CZ. The only difference between YuNa and CZ SPs is the mistake on YuNa's combination. The rest of YuNa's SP is superior to that of CZ. YuNa's LZ and 2A is far superior and text book to those of CZ (flutz & tiny Ax) as well, so should the judges just ignore the other qualities?

It seems like Caroline was also help up as well with ther 3-3 being ratified. Her 3T seemed UD, and she looks REALLY slow on the ice compared to the rest of the ladies.

YuNa seems to own PCS. Even with the mistake on her combo, she sold the program until the very end.

Thanks, Ms. Anthrope, for having taken the words right out of my mouth. Yu-Na would've been marked easily over 70 points if she had skated clean with no mistakes in her 3-3 combo. (And she actually got marked 1.60 points lower than CZ for TES.) IMO, Yu-Na and CZ are still in different leagues.

Kostner has a great flow during her footwork section. But for the rest of the program, well... Her telegraphing jumps and slow-motion spins make the overall flow evaporate.

I'm completely shocked at the results! Mao in last place!!!! I'm also pleasantly surprised at how well Zhang placed. I didn't think she would do so well. She must be over the moon. Congratulations to Zhang! She is really something special and I think her technical difficulties with jumps and speed can realistically be overcome with time.

I made a point in another post somewhere that given a person's talent, the best support and training, one can never really predict because there is always the fate factor. ie. what happens at that particular 3 minutes. What happened to Mao is a classic illustration of my point.

But she did not skate clean today. I thought YuNA and Mao were overmarked, not sure YuNA deserved first place today.

Another thing I can't stand about Kostner's skating. I feel like I could take a bathroom break while she telegraphs every one of her jumps. She skates nearly the entire length of the rink telegraphing her jumps while her choreography just stops. Jump already!!!

Okay then, let's just forget about Yu-Na's other superior qualities Ms. Anthrope appropriately mentioned above and just do some math. Do you think her mistakes today should've cost her more than 7-8 points then?

I'm editing to make myself clear: 70+ minus 7-8 = 64+ points (which Yu-Na got for today's performance)

Every Asian skater so far has been overmarked. I am looking for the same in the pairs. I bet there was some kind of collusion to boost all the Asian skaters at this event. You are right, no wonder this sport is in its final breaths of life support.

No offense meant, but your comment sounds almost racist.

I liked Carolina K's SP last year, I thought it was very well choreographed and well-skated, and they even managed to mask her telegraphing somehow. But this year, bleh! I thought she was making a major improvement in artistic presentation with last year's SP, but it now looks like that was the exception and we're back to the boring choreography and endless telegraphing. She and Liashenko should hold a contest over who telegraphs the most.

She has good speed, but PCS should not be single-mindedly driven by speed. Speed plays too much of a component as it is, IMHO. It is supposed to be about artistic presentation, right? So speed should only be one component, maybe 1/5 of the total score, whereas I feel like currently speed figures about 60% of the PCS (and reputation 30%), leaving those without speed or reputation nothing to work with...

Well. Let's see... Her short program 3-3 at CoR got 10.9 points. Her popped one at CoC scored 2.9.
So, approximately we can say her mistake cost her 8 point I guess.

It ain't over till it's over. Anyone of the six can shoot up to numero uno. It does show that the Ladies do have some excitement and no one is pre ordained.

I think Caroline did get ding'ed for her flutz, but that's just -1 GOE -- actually, she got 0's from some judges in both the SP and LP at both SA and CoC, against the stated rule that judges must hand out negative GOE's. Maybe these judges didn't feel like she flutzed so obviously, or maybe they feel like other qualities of her 3Lz (it's actually her best jump in terms of flow, height, distance, and rotation) make up for the little flutz.

She got a 63 at a club competition (Golden West) in the summer for her SP. Her scores from GW last year were spot on in predicting her JW scores, so I think probably by National's, she will probably reach 63 with a clean short -- actually, might be even higher since National's is inflated relative to international comps.
