Free Dance

Dom/Shab have to go to worlds so the judges can boost up their PB again by a huge amount.
Funny that the top 3 teams had their highest FS of the season and V/Ms got lower! V/M completely outskated and outscored the Fr team in the last comp in the FS - what happened here? Was it a case of them being in a new setting that may have caused this. This was there 1st time as medal contenders in a GPF! For the others it was old hat.

But Sackie, I still think V/M skated their FD great. I think it was more about the judges holding them back because they were young, and because they were not in the final group (messed up the twizzles in the OD).

However, this is the best news for Del/Scho all season, a clear sign that they are on track for their first ever Worlds medal, albeit only a bronze. The fact that they beat V/M here by a pretty large margin (about 4 points) should make them happy. Also, at Worlds they'll have to skate a CD, and in that department the judges seem to favor the Russians and the French over the North Americans. Thus, if they can have a lead over the Americans in the CD, and keep it close in the OD, we know B/A will beat them in the FD, but it could be close for silver...? And Del/Scho will definitely get their silver at Europeans too.

Having said that, Worlds was surprising last year with V/M and D/W having big rises and Dom/Shab only 4th so perhaps I'm calculating all of this two far in advance...

What do you guys think? Do you agree that Del/Scho will get their long-awaited medal at Worlds this year?

Why hasn't ISU sent 2008 worlds gold medals to Dom/Shab already? Just save a trip for this duo and let other pairs to compete for silver and bronze?:bow:
+1
This medals have there names on it
Russian FS federationa always work really well. I wish, V/M will be russians

all this sniping at the skaters by all these "new" posters dedicated to trashing countries and skaters "they" do not like is making me sick. Why not just enjoy the skating and not pass judgement without proof of wrong doing. Especially since I doubt any of the detractors are actually watching this stuff live and up close enough to be judges. I've had enough. I'm outta here.

Domnina/Shabalin did not perform as well as Belbin/Agosto I thought and yet they score 3 points.higher. Can someone more knowledgable in dance then I am please explain what on earth was superior about their FD. Heck I thought even the French had a better FD then Domnina/Shabalin, and they too were over them after the OD, yet 3 points back in the FD. Someone please explain to me what was superior about Domnina/Shabalin's FD to put them 3 points ahead of those other 2 teams.

I would like to add the biggest thing I thought of Domnina/Shabalin's FD was:

SLOW SLOW SLOW where is the speed and ice coverage.

I don't know why everyone is hating on Domnina and Shabalin I found there program to be very beautiful and statuesque. They have the best extension, line and choreography of any of the other pairs as well as good speed and flow and transition from element to element. There free dance is the best of the season.

:clap:Congrats Domnina and Shabalin you deserve it!!! Keep it going for the rest of the season!!!!

Well said. I thought it was wonderful too.

A shame some people can't see past their national biases.

I couldn't agree more. I loved it!
Thank God she got rid of the ugly dress, too.

I just wish that D&S (FRA) had been second.

In fairness Domnina/Shabalin's FD was their best rendition so far this season, better then COR even. However I thought their score their was too high. I just wish someone who was more knowledgable in ice dance would go on TV and break it down to explain why Domnina/Shabalin's FD was 3 points higher then Belbin/Agosto and Delobel/Schoenfeldner, if there was in fact any merit to that. Then I might feel better.

I don't have a problem with them winning but I do have a problem with their score being so high! That's the highest Free Dance score we've seen in a while and you can not tell me it is better that the last Olympic and World champs! Good thing the BUL and CAN medalist got out when they did - Dom/Shab score just outdid theirs by a long shot! If D/L had any idea of coming back they may reconsider after watching the rise of the RUS teams this season. Come the Olympics the RUS will have two teams going for medals. Just like in the old days. All other top teams will be fighting for 1 medal.

Congratz to all the teams, it seems like it was a well skated event overall. I'm happy that Del/Shos get on the podium. I wanted V/M to win a medal, but oh well. The judges are the experts, not me. They had a strong FD, and proved that they belonged there. I'm guessing that these will be the four big teams heading into worlds.

Hmm. Theres not much I can say that hasnt been said. I guess, over the GPs this season and especially the final....i've officially changed my stance on the CoP. I loved it at first; thought it'd fix everything.

Hopefully the way things are going, they'll change soon. I mean, Yeah Doms/Shabs were good, but from what everyone's said, they couldnt have been THAT good, and with Belbin/Agosto having atleast a decently solid skate....I just dont understand. I hope it doesnt take this at Vancouver for ISU to again make changes.

settling just for the silver medal at euros....have faith....be realistic as well. haha

as for worlds...duh a medal...they better or else i will commit suicide...for the last two seasons...i attempted but mother found out...hahahahahah....;)

i just wish they don't retire this season *knocks on wood* ...2009 is Los Angeles....my hometown!

i have to meet them!

I actually think the French could have a good shot at silver at Worlds. Their CDs have been much stronger then Belbin/Agosto and Virtue/Moir this year. So considering they were as competitive in the OD and FD here as they were silver is possible. I like all of Belbin/Agosto, Delobel/Schoenfeldner, and Virtue/Moir though so I have mixed feelings what I want to happen. It is 3 teams for 2 medals. The Worlds judging panel as chuckm has documented are even more pro- Russiacentric then this GP final and the CD is a strength of Domnina/Shabalin so pencil them in for another gold medal.
