Ladies Free Skate

If Kimmie and Caroline skate like today, we will see an underage national champion.

Na... Caroline will win on TES, but Kimmie will beat her by a lot in the PCS and win overall..

That's how it's gonna come out ;-)

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YU-NA . . . CONGRATS ON THE WIN!

Per usual, Mao's flawed SP hurt her. GREAT FIGHT in the LP and congrats on silver!

I'm very happy for Carolina for finally giving her LP demons a fight. Congrats on the bronze!

Ugh, the current state of American ladies' skating has me very concerned at the ability for the USA to maintain 3 Worlds spots for the 2009 World Championship in Los Angeles. It will be disappointing to have Worlds at home and only be able to send 2 ladies. What indeed has happened to Kimmie Meissner? I REALLY HOPE she is able to rest, recover physically, mentally, and emotionally, and have some very steady training to be ready for Nationals.

I think the USFSA would really hate to crown a skater ineligible for Worlds. A national champion who can't be sent to the Words! Never!

Maybe they THINK that, but it becomes harder to fix a competition when your favorite doesn't perform up to standards and someone else blows her right out of the water.

I think that Yu-Na really deserves to win, she was better in SP and her jumps are just exquisite. But looking at the protocols, I just admire Mao's courage, that was just a gutsy performance. 2 Triple-Triples, the Axel - okay, she flutzes and she still does not have the Salchow (at least nobody can say that about her Toeloop anymore). But after a disaster like she had in the SP yesterday - to come out and go through a program that has more basevalue than most of the men's - that is so courageous and amazing...

Nope, even if Mao skated a great SP, she would still have come behind Kim in the SP and therefore overall.

Hate to say it, but there's no way that Mao could have won even if she had a great SP. Mao can only win if Yuna has a significant meltdown, i.e screwing up at least three jumps or more in the SP or LP.

At her best, Yuna just cannot be beaten.

AGREED 100%

I thought her "sophomore slump" was last year but seems like she has some real issues. And she doesn't seem like the type to want to share some of those issues publicly. But I am losing faith in the US scene internationally and that's why I'm looking forward to Nats but could care less about Worlds. Let's mail world medals to YuNa and Mao while we're at it.

I think the Koreans should clone Yuna, change her face with their highly advanced plastic surgery so that no one will notice that its her clone, and save her for the future when Yuna will no longer be around.

Because they can! F(L)utz is killing Mao's money jumps...

Are you serious you can't blame Mao flutz for everything she got a - 1 for her lutz thats not enough to cover Yu-na's fall - 3! plus she did 2 3/3!

yes, they are very fortunate to have someone like her. Damn, and skaters like that usually pop out of the US, Russia or Japan!!

Just wondering how could Mao with 3A and 2 3/3 is just a point above Yu-na in Tes even with a fall?

Look at the protocol. Mao was downgraded big time in the 3A and one of her 3/3. Except for the fall, NONE of Yu-na's jumps were downgraded. Also, since Yu-na program was a 7 triple program versus Mao's 6 triples, even with the fall Yu-na didn't have less triples than Mao.

It IS enough. You have to be able to do all the jumps. Everyone falls but falling on a jump they know you can do compared to Never being able to do a jump? I think we have to thank Tara for that.

Congrats Yu-Na
Yu-Na skated with so much speed today, it was amazing. I think the judges really appreciate Yu-Na's textbook jumping techniques. It really shows on the protocol. Mao should focus on fixing her flutz, because its clear now that 3A, 3-3's won't be enough for her to beat clean Yu-Na because of the massive GOE's. Too bad Mao completely bombed her SP (at least jumpwise), this would have been quite a battle.

Congrats to Yu-Na! Plus, I'm so happy for Mao- she definitely came through in her long. Absolutely stunning & marvelous performance; the steps gorgeous. I think this long was the most exciting for me this season- superb athleticism & beauty all rolled into one.

Great job to everyone else too. Wow Caroline should be so proud of her self- wonderful debut in the senior ciruit! My heart goes out to Yukari- she's doing so well yet she always seems to be off the podium by only a small margin. Kimmie wasn't able to execute her best @ this competion, but she's got a great attitude so hopefully she'll be back strong at worlds.

Actually, Mao wasn't downgraded. She just had - GOES on the 3F-3T and 3A (I thought hers was more secure than Nakano's though)

I count 7-Triples at Mao... Axel, 2 TripleTriple, Loop, Flutz. And they were not downgraded, they got less than 1 point deduction for landing or something like that.

Until Mao fixes her flutz, I think that Yuna will end up on top if both of them skate clean SP's and LP's. Even with two triple-triple combinations AND a triple axel that score was barely a fraction of a point better than Yuna's skate with 1 fall, can you imagine if Yuna landed the triple loop????

Ok, the competiton was so exciting and loved every minute of it. You really have to look at other factors too. Mao could work on her 3flip/3toe and her 3axel. She got low GOEs on them. Her components score were low because she skated first. I think they are pretty even if they are both clean.

I was so happy for everyone except for Kimmie... I think it's time for Kimmie to change things around. I want Kimmie to go to Richard Callahan and work on her jumps and spins.
