Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

You're really funny and the funniest part is that you don't seem to be joking

You know that the competition goes on for several days - training, short program day, free program day, right? I hope you studied at school and remember the basics of human biology - for example, how much time a person can spend without water consumption  You're funny :)
why not ask alina and zhenya? after all both of them openly talked about that in terms of that they didnt really drink at the olympics in2018. i mean everyone here knows about it?

Trimetazidine is freely sold in pharmacies, without a doctor's prescription. So accessibility has nothing to do with it
Okay. Fair enough. I didn't think it was that accessible considering the medical condition it does treat. In Canada, drugs like these would most likely need prescription from a doctor.

This is actually far from certain, given that it was only a trace of that medicine left in her system at the RusNats.
It has an extremely short half-life. It was definitely ingested in Russia.

This half-life is probably also why the team was comfortable using it. They thought they would be able to get it completely out of all athletes systems prior to competitions.

So you are willing to buy that someone wants to win so badly that they would try to disqualify Kamila by giving them some pills but you are not willing to believe someone wants to win so badly (team doctor, coach, whatever) that they would try to give their athlete some "help" ?

I find the latter more plausible. Just my opinion.
Again. One-time consumption will not help Kamila in any way (and Kamila doesn't need doping), and systematic consumption will be detected by a random check. The doctors know this, so it is excluded from the motive.

No. Easy is a common medicine. I even read that some people, after the whole situation with Kamila, conducted an experiment - they came to the pharmacy and bought this medicine without any problems.
So you are saying that it's so easy to buy that anyone could go, buy it, put some tablets in the water bottle of an elite athlete in Russia? Then maybe this is a problem to address if the athletes are concerned for their safety. :) Make these drugs banned by WADA restricted in Russia or even illegal (like in other countries) so that limits their use and then nixes the chances of foul play? Easy no?

In order to purchase TMZ from a pharmacy, you have to have a prescription from your Doctor. Before the Doctor gives you TMZ prescription, you have to go through a series of tests to diagnose you with Angina.

In Russia?

It's not even approved here in Australia. My pharmacist friend says you can't get it even if you needed it.
Yes, in Russia. By the way, meldonium is also freely sold and advertised on TV (sometimes under the name "Mildronat"). In Australia, this is probably not the case, since the clinical efficacy of meldonium and trimetazidine has not been proven. Our doctors believe, as I understand it, that such drugs are something like a placebo (I do not mean sports, but ordinary doctors).

I am not saying it happened outside of Russia, just not necessarily during the Russian Nationals in StPete - where, I assume, there are tighter controls and it is harder to access the participants' food, drinks etc. Could have happened a week prior in Moscow for instance.

Regarding short half-life, I am no expert but short half-life does not mean the drug gets undetectable with the advanced methods used by WADA. It would have been interesting to find out how long it takes for the drug to completely leave the system on someone of Kamila's age, weight and level of activity. My guess it that it takes weeks.

and what if at worst if it was not a one time thing(\without kamilas knowledge) what if it was really a miscalculation as to when it would not be detectable? and yes kamila doesnt need it which is also why many of us are so angry about it. because i believe that kamila did not knoe about it. but its still known in public as of now that other girls that have been at one of eteris trainingscamp gave the info that they were handed boxes with pills ehich were said to be vitamins but they never really got an explanation as to what vitamins or supplements they were

This is an absurdist, puritanical rule. I don't care about him. And any sane person who appreciates figure skating should not care.

Substances are put on the banned substance list for a reason. Putting agencies in a position to take a positive test for a banned substance and the review 'well did the athlete actually benefit from this' is opening a monstrous can of worms every time an athlete tests positive. So its a very simple rule - don't take something that's on the list.

Dude, are you serious? This is a good medicine (as well as meldonium). Ordinary people need it.

It's just that this drug is French (and meldonium is Russian). Therefore, big pharma (American) has achieved that it was declared doping. Okay, the Anglo-Saxons, as always, won in such games. But to deprive people of good medicine because of this? Sports, figure skating is of course an important part of life, but not so much!

Clearly, the coaches/ athletes believe it gives them an advantage or they wouldn't risk the health of a 15 year old girl and give her a heart medication which could have side effects.

It could be for instance someone who is desperate to undermine Eteri's public image as a number 1 Russian FS coach, and possibly ruin her entire career. Someone whose wife has been previously married to a thug and has a very shady past herself.....
I don't think so. Plushenko would be the first to come under suspicion, so he wouldn't dare stick his neck out.

I agree with ChuckM (post #1633): it was Ted Barton. Barton was mad that Russia was poised to snatch away Canada's Olympic team championship from 2018. This way Russia will have to vacate the team event title and it will revert back to the previous champions until 2026.

what are you talking about???
Canada's team championship is from 2018. Canada was never a contender here. If they get a medal, I will be the first one saying they are more than lucky getting a medal... and Ted Barton is in love with Eteri :) I am very confused

About the same level of logic as the other accusations and so much more amusing. Let's blame Ted. 😂
