Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

As a lawyer I think the decision is right. As I am reading this, she is allowed to skate but the issue is far from over. She could get her medal stripped after - the decision to let her skate is based purely on timing and procedural aspects. This is far from over.
Terrific, a skater will get an Olympic medal a year later, when its financial worth has expired.

I am understanding the same thing as well : she didn't have time to prepare a defense so let's have her skate and she can explain herself later... but I don't think this really considers the other 29 athletes competing in that event, especially the woman who will be excluded from the free skate... If the Olympics are once in a lifetime experience, and they didn't want to keep Kamila away from that special opportunity because there is no time for her to prepare a defense, it is also a once in a lifetime experience for the woman who will not have a chance to compete her free skate... let alone the woman who may miss the podium. This is why the Olympics are getting less and less respected.

What can I say, future committees of the sort are gonna have this precedent now,
and that's gonna be a never-ending mountain of trouble.

congrats to Kamila who gets to skate, I do worry about how the public might respond to her

...indeed a huge credibility blow to the IOC.

I knew it. If this were any other country, she wouldn't be allowed to skate. Russia should stop saying the whole world is out to get them. With this and previous leniency, that is clearly not the case.

After following this sport for a while I think I can guarantee they will never stop doing that
their Nationalist defensiveness instincts are fierce to sometimes even blind extant, I'm sure if this was the
"Nicole Della Monica banned substance" thread or whatever it would've been 30 pages long
and that would be one of the main reasons for it, but at least we get some good articles dug up by them ;)

I feel this is almost a crueler decision than to suspend her.

The amount of pressure on her now will be enormous. The press questions. The constant whispers. There will always be an asterisk next to her name. The woman who misses the cut by one place tomorrow will always resent that she did because Valieva got to skate.

And if the full investigation results in a ban, and Valieva being stripped, then the IOC is going to look even more ridiculous than they do now.

That's it. I'm done watching ladies skating, at least at this Olympics. I'm not supporting doping in any way, even if a minor is involved. I find it disgusting she gets so much support, I understand it's probably fault of adults behind her, but even the adults get support. I'm not spending a penny supporting Russian doping and corruption.

I feel so sorry for other ladies skaters who are clean and play by the rules, who will get their moment stolen. That's the real issue here.

If only....there is always "if only" in every situation. That kind of reasoning don't lead anywhere.

I know what you mean, but I think if anyone can handle this pressure she can, I hope this week wasn't
too tumultuous for her and she can show up prepared for the event.

She will no doubt go back home a hero, and hopefully publics who are furious over a decision like this
don't take it out on her, I don't know if the representatives of the organisations who arrived at this decision
will go back "home" as heroes though, to say the least, maybe there really was no other choice.

So all you have to do moving forward is to dope minors and turn the test results in late. Shout out to all the chump athletes who weren't young enough to get away with cheating. Joke's on you.

I guess I'm out. My favorite retired, and the integrity of the sport and the Olympic games is ruined. Take care, all.

The "Doping Controversy" thread was closed and moved to the "General Info" area of the Olympic sub-forum for reference.

Update: IOC has released a statement that there will be no medal ceremony for the team event or women's event (if the athlete places in the top three).
