Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

this is disgraceful.

this was so much bigger than Kamila, it was about the integrity of figure skating as a sport and the olympics, the biggest sporting event in the world where the very best *clean* athletes come together to see who is the best. it was about holding Russia and her coaching team, the ADULTS around her, accountable.

if her drug test would have been processed in the normal amount of time, she likely would have been stripped of her RusNats gold, never went to Euros let alone won the gold, and would not be here in Beijing. and not only that, but now athletes from other countries are being robbed of their olympic moment standing upon the podium AT the olympics, for Kamila's sake. this is absolutely NOTHING against Kamila as none of this is her fault and she is merely a child, but this is special treatment and enabling at its finest.

i didn't have much of an opinion on raising the age limit before, but now it can't happen any faster.

Sorry but this is starting to sound ridiculous!

Starting?

Perhaps it's a matter of age.

I've watched skating for many, many years. Not once have I intentionally watched a dirty event.

I'm not starting now.
For me I am going to wait and see the result of the investigation. If the test is confirmed and her medals stripped I think keep watching.... warily.

If they actually do their job and ban Eteri + her team for child abuse then they did their jobs and all is forgiven.

If nothing happens I might decide to not come back... at least to ladies.

The only ones to blame for the ruining of Kamila's reputation are Eteri, her team, and the Russian government/media that enable the child abuse.
These are again empty, unsubstantiated accusations. You are presenting them as fact.

Here Bjoerndalen said three years ago that more than 60% of all skiers and biathletes (without division by country) use asthma medications. This is quite a good reason for a logical construction: under the guise of asthmatics, dopers act. But no one seems to be bothered by this for a long time. No moral suffering, no crying about stolen medals. And here you have no statistics, nothing, except for one case, the reasons for which are not yet clear - but you are ready to accuse and demand - to ban! don't let in! punish! Thank you, at least you don’t offer to put Eteri in the electric chair yet.

feel bad for the other podium finishers. there will be no ceremony so they will be handed their medal as if they bought it on ebay and someone "delivered" it to them.

ISU did say that Ceremonies will be held once the Valieva case has been concluded. It is better than having a ceremony now and then update the results and medals IMO.
What a mess. I agree 100% with what ISU decided. It almost feels like Kami is going through this for nothing, I doubt the final decision will be in her favour.

I agree. As much as it sucks.... the decision to not hand out medals at all in the two events was the only reasonable one at this point once CAS boxed them into a corner.

None of this is relevant. It’s a banned substance period. You don’t make the rules.
I'm tired of these repetitive answers. After all, it is written above - I'm not talking about the legal side of the issue! I'm not saying that taking a banned substance is okay! I must repeat it again? Or do you still learn to read first, answer later?

Then what you are talking about is irrelevant because this thread is about the taking of banned substances.

From the Associated Press:

The Valieva case means Russian doping has been a major theme for a six straight Olympic Games.

Six straight Olympics.
And, sadly, this will continue.
I just hope they're creative enough to come up with different names (OAR, ROC, etc.)

Yup. It is inevitable.

As long as the IOC is not willing to take meaningful action against the ROC they will keep doing it.

I still remember after 2014 and their massive systemic doping and coverup was exposed.... how SHOCKED I was that all they really lost was their flag at national anthem. Even then I thought it was a complete joke.

They drilled a hole in the damn wall to pass fake test samples through to hide doping. They should have been completely banned from every sport for a decade at least. Instead they got.... nothing.

This is deplorable situation and a shameful decision.

I’m a fan of Valieva and wanted her to skate lights out, but now I hope she ends up 4th for her sake and for the sake of figure skating.

The aftermath of this will be even messier and the effects of athletes in the team event.

As Lipinski said this is a permanent scar on skating.

“Irreparable harm”, indeed. :rolleye:

Why aren't other feds like the US doing a boycott or something? Because at this point, what even is the point?

Its actually a good strategy by the IOC in a way... keeps the ROC, USOC, and the Japanese Fed all thinking they could win big in the end. Not wanting to disrupt too much and get bad blood.

I think it would be a whole different story if say the Chinese came in 2nd in the team. They would be out for blood.

yep. what is the point in pair event? Just give Chinese the gold. and other three top teams should be shamefully sent away. and never ever be inivted anywehere.

What’s lighter than a rap on the wrists because a name change is hardly that and it is foolhardy to pretend that ever dissuaded them from having 8 of the past 10 Olympics where they were stripped of medals due to doping —soon to be 9 of 11.
