Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

I am so curious what the vibe will be from the audience during the women’s SP, especially when the Russians skate.

I can’t imagine the audience would give Kamila the same reception as the team SP. And I’m sure there will be a fair amount of booing/protestations. As I said, I would just turn my back while Valieva skated. This is going to be uuuuugly.
More than the audience, I'm curious to see how this will affect Kamila's scores - not how she skates, but how that is perceived by the judges.

We all know how much GOEs and PCS are based upon the skater's reputation, the 'wow' factor, and the judges' desires, conscious or unconscious, to crown a winner for their Olympic moment. How will all this controversy affect that? The IOC is angry, different federations are displeased, and fellow skaters aren't happy. There's no way the judges are following this impartially either, and we know that the judging was never 'objective' anyways.

I wouldn't be surprised if she faces more scrutiny than she has at any point in juniors or seniors. For years, people have seen her as the favorite for this event. Now, she's skating as the person many people believe shouldn't even be competing.

My prediction: The team doctor Philipp Shvetsky will be used as a scapegoat. He himself will even admit publicly that he made a big mistake with the athlete. Then he will be formally fired, but really rehired somewhere at least equally nice (probably outside sports this time, because he will get a ban).

Then a new doctor will be hired and everything will continue like normal.

Not that I will believe them of course
Good prediction. He is involved in this. He actually applied for a patent for his method of doping athletes with xenon gas after the gas was banned by WADA, in addition to his previous involvement in two doping cases. However, of course, anyone with the slightest intelligence will realize the whole team is involved.

Russian athletes won their case in CAS. Majority of their medals are returned to them. but let's pretend it never happened. or you are suggesting CAS is biased and bribed.

I´m not sure it´s a rumor or not, since it has been mentioned in the thread here before, but honestly I thought it was just joking. I read on Twitter that Kamilas defence is that she drank from her grandfathers glas of water while she was taking care of him in the middle of RusNats apparently, and that´s why she tested positive.

If this really is her story then it´s quite obvious this is not the real story. Consider the pandemic and all this story sounds very unreal because she would not be drinking from another persons glas and risk of getting covid now... And yeah is just so very unlikely but also kind of a story you would expect trying to get away with... And if this is the story she is not denying she had it in her body so either way this doesn´t look good at all.

Yes of course the doctor is also really to blame. I meant he will take ALL the blame to protect the famous coaches

I don't think such a strong opinion in a positive way about the ruling will be very well received here. You were right Alex. But I'm not sure you will be right about Kamilas performance because she's probably worn out mentally and there are rumors she has not been practicing well she had three falls in one free skate practice the other day.

You are very thrilled about her being able to compete I'm more cautiously optimistic.

There will still be months and months of Investigation is try to find out who got this substance in her system and is it just her or others?

Anna and Sasha are probably so pissed off at the Federation for having them there for 11 or 12 days and they still haven't been in competition.
I rather my opinion not be well received than the ruling having gone the other way. Haha

If it means Kamila gets to skate, then pour all the scorn you want on me. I’ll take that trade.

You know who else doesn’t practice well? Anna. But when the lights go on, who is always there at the end?

Let her get out all her emotions now and be ready tomorrow.

Plus, Kamila doesn’t even have to be perfect to win. Kamila is tough, so have faith in her.

I hope she is perfect so she doesn’t give any scorned judges a chance to work their magic though.

As a famous man once said, V is for Victory, V is is Vengeance, V is for Valieva!

But thats what it is not fair. other athletes had no chance to parcipate in sport events while being investigated...Wada decided in american athelte case that she had ilegal substances due to make up she used. But she lost all those chances to medal at events when she was investigated.Kamila can win in 3 days , she wil be suspended from medaling but all in all russian will make sure that TZM got into her body by accident, I am sure of it. So she will keep her gold medal. Why other atheltes are banned and Kamila is not.
You make fair points. But because KV is a minor age athlete according to the IOC rule book she is not subject to disciplinary action like a senior age athlete would that tested positive for a banned substance.

Now that is not fair to you and many other people but the IOC created that rule to protect minor age athletes. Right now Kamila is benefitting from that. And that's why the rule was put in place.

You guys keep arguing as if it would change anything anyway. The only past skater who brave enough to spoke on IG is Yuna which is very unexpected since she basically famous for being reserve in interviews and always give politically correct comments even after retiring. She alone is not enough. Ashley and Adam spoke about it too but on twitter, not many people saw those and both of these people were never as respected as Yuna.

I honestly dont think other federation care about it as much to make any change like the people arguing here. If they mind they should talk but no one did, well may be the Olympic committee of the US and Canada but not the Fed and with a very standard statement to booth.

Not even the Japanese who would likely be the one who got an upgraded medal talk, so it is what it is. Yes I m also skeptical that the later investigation would change anything.

"Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva commented on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) exit panel to allow her to the individual tournament at the Beijing Olympics.

“These days were very difficult for me, and there are no longer enough emotions. I am happy, but I am already emotionally tired. Therefore, tears of happiness and a little grief.

At the same time, I am certainly happy to be at the Olympic Games and represent our country. I hope that I will tune in as much as possible and show the result, ”Valiyeva said through tears on the air of Channel One."

Some people have been saying that, I find it hard to believe but who knows anymore.

What I would have said till this morning is that even if they kinda buy her story, because she
was still found with the substance in her system and out of integrity to the sport she would,
like everyone else, still have recent titles taken and get a short cooling period, but after this morning
who knows what they're gonna do, I guess something to look forward to.

Go to sleep girl, enough press!
It's a big day tomorrow

I haven’t comment here for a really long time. I just wanted to say that i never in my wildest dreams did I think it would come to something like this. It literally brings a tear to my eye to think of all the clean athletes who have worked so hard to catch up to the Russians(already at a disadvantage because of the extremely generous judging Eteri girls get) only to find out on the biggest stage in the world that they’ve been doping and they never stood a chance. Rika missed this whole season because she got injured trying to catch up. To what we now know is an impossible standard. And now they have to face the humiliation of being beat by cheaters with the whole world watching. How can anyone enjoy this farce? How are we meant to cheer quads when we know the abuse and rule breaking that went in to them? Just a devastating day for women’s skating that I don’t think see how they can come back from

What I don’t get is them shrouding the whole competition with an air of misery and murk by scrapping the victory ceremonies. They should have just made a definitive decision rather than this unsatisfactory nebulous outcome that just sucks the air out of the whole competition. They are effectively punishing ALL the other competitors here with this action which is completely unacceptable!

she is tough, no doubt about that, after that TZM

You are right. Finland media pays very minimal attention to the case. There have been some topics on top for a while, but they often may quite quickly get off the way of other topics. They wrote more about why women's relay team did not medal, some Finn got rage scene during ice hockey match and Finnish cross country winner was nice to a Columbian competitor in skiing. These have been more on top than this case.
