Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Tara and Johnny's reaction, I have to admit I think these 2 have a good assessment here. And while I don't think they bullied Valieva, they also didn't absolve her of guilt in this situation, they both talked through their own experience pointed out that at a young age they had to be aware of what they were putting in their bodies

Not Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski having the most level headed, least rabid take on this whole situation 🙃. We are truly living in the most bizarre timeline.

The "Grandfather's Glass" is not a hoax or a joke, at least according to (English language) Pravda, but an explanation actually presented by Kamila's lawyer:

Kamila Valieva's mother Alsu Valieva and lawyer Anna Kozmenko spoke at court during the hearings of the skater's case. They said that the concentration of trimetazidine, which was found in the athlete's doping sample, was negligibly small. It was her grandfather, who may have caused the substance to end up in Kamila's body, they said. He could allegedly drink something from a glass, having left traces of his saliva on the glass before Kamila drank from the glass as well.

Maybe they are backtracking now that they realize how utterly foolish it sounds, and that it only undermines her case and does not help it?

Cause backtracking and changing stories is just going to help her case?

Has there been any confirmation on whether sample B has been tested? Have they completely bypassed that?

the same question is about Swedish lab (which was partially suspended in 2018). first they were talking about covid, now about labelling. Can they stick to one plot, please?

I have heard no backtracking from Kamila's team, so I should not have said that. I have seen other posts attributing the story to jokes, or to Dave Lease, or to whatever. It appears to have been at least one of her actual defenses.

I don't know about the B sample either.

Wow! Gubanova is so bold. I love her. She had it tough as she could never get a spot in the Senior Grand Prix due to the depth of talent from that country. So, I can imagine the anger. She would have been to Junior Worlds and World Champs, possibly, if we remove the Eteri camp.

I wonder if anybody has ever thought of pursuing Anastasia Tarakanova for an interview. She trained at that camp for a few years and left to Plushenko and then Panova and then a lady coach. So, she has been all over the place and she would know more than we know.

The lab stance hasn’t changed.

It took the full 20 days upon receipt due to Covid outbreak. However, the sample wasn’t marked priority by Rusada and therefore not prioritized for earlier testing like that of EC samples

Can I ask where you heard this was a joke, since Pravda is reporting it as a fact?
in telgram channel Lapidarni filial the day/night before yesterday before the yesterday hearing. I saw that Russian journalist with confidence wrote that Russian figure skater was caught using marijuana. and tonnes of articles whcih declared that a figure skater was literally using a DRUG like cocaine. It was a very obvious translation mistake but still people reproduced and discussed that nonsence. now we know it is not true. We have another scandal with Norwegian journalists and Russian head coach who published things she had not said . That's why I would not believe anything but a video or audio or official information published on official website by the authorities

is Pravda a reliable source? I don't think they state where they got that information from.

Apparently Dennis Oswald (from IOC) has just said in a press conference that they have not gotten the complete version of the CAS ruling yet, so many things, including grandpa's involvement probably, are still unknown to the IOC. He also said that the B sample has not been studied yet and basically the investigation is still ongoing.

you mean transportation from Petersburg to Sweden took 20 days because of COVID.

tabloids are not reliable sources. In my reality.

Thank you for your answer. Here in the US, we have not heard anything about any drug other than TMZ or any of those other issues.

I have no reason to distrust Pravda on this issue, so I will accept their reporting until proven incorrect. I have also heard no one from Kamila's camp say, oh, that is wrong, oh we never said that about Grandpa's glass. Or the lawyer Ms. Kuzmenko has not refuted it, to my knowledge.

In any event, it was not simply a joke repeated on social media (understanding joke to mean something made up strictly for humor) but actually reported as a fact in the media. I cannot speak for whether someone will believe the reporting.

I read the news on front page of gs. So this CAS hearing had ITA president and one USA +one SLO arbitrators. I don’t see corruption leading to current decision.

I also believe that withdrawing on her own initiative (if nothing else, for the sake of Sasha and Anna) and going public with her explanation would be the best outcome for her public image and future international career. A medal at this event will only bring her misery.
Relative to the bolded part, she could withdraw, sneak out of the bubble, take the subway over to a friendly western embassy--say the Australian, Canadian, or maybe Netherlands--and request asylum. This method was used with reasonable success back in the 1970's Soviet Union days.

I think one good reason to distrust Pravda on this issue is that it has just been stated by an IOC official that they have not received the CAS ruling yet, hence, no info should be available to various Pravdas at this point.

Never heard of Pravda before btw, and their website looks like a typical gossip media outlet, the language in the article is atrocious, this is why I asked if that is a credible source. Did not strike me as such.
