Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Thing is... Adam Rippon specifically tweeted this:

I mean maybe he's lying, but it seems like a foolish thing to Tweet if it is.

No, it’s not foolish, because you don’t want to use something over the counter that can have cross-contamination or unlisted additives. But for someone this small framed getting nutrients from the miserable amount of calories they intake… basically, they would have to supplement. Men are always a bit luckier because they can eat more. 😅 And if her team was doing their job correctly, there will be nothing forbidden in the supplements. Or ‘grandpa’s meds’

We are not talking about an adult doping himself but adults doping children. We are talking about a bunch of cronies that doped a little girl that was in their care. All so that they could be bigger and better than anyone else, no matter what the cost. There was a banned drug TMZ in her system and I don’t think it came from her Poppy’s mug. This is a shame that someone would do this to a child, in order to win a medal, another notch in thei belt. We can bicker back and forth with who done it.. This girl was dropped and it will forever haunt her for the rest of her life. My granddaughter is 14 years old and I can’t fathom her going through something like this. This young girl will never be the same after this, she’s still a baby in my eyes.
You act as if they are already found guilty of doing that.Doubt they needed to be exactly her doing the winning or are you claiming Russian ladies all were subjecated to the same treatment?

I've said Canada and USA. I don't see Japanese media is outraged with it, and i can't take some Tutk fans from this forum seriously too... And i will copy my post again to see that:
I can only suggest people from North America to watch more B ESP or any other European coverage, it is much more realistic and truthful to the situation. Now i realize that problem with North Americans is not that 'clean sport' narrative they are pushing, it is sadly and only about the medals (dumb me :dbana:). Because if Kamila were suspended, USA would get gold and Canada bronze... so let's just be real about what is behind all those media news. Unlike North America's media, there is no conflict of interest in Europe(ans media), so people can keep a common sense there # sorry, not sorry
I live in Japan and, yes, they are outraged by it. The newspapers inside the country are are scrutinizing this issue quite closely. Are you going to claim it's because of medals again???

To clarify myself, I am not accusing the Russian ladies of anything. Just stating the fact that traces of TMZ was found in the urine sample of a minor. Zero tolerance of doping of athletes in the Olympics. Doping is Doping.

I mean common sense tells you yes, because Japan is also in a medal position, isn't it? I was talking about hatred comments, not about discussing the topic in a civil manner using the facts, instead of motivies and emotions.

I honestly share their frustration because this situation reflects so horribly on figure skating in general.
Maybe this is where we see the situation a bit differently. I just don't think we should, at this point in time and with the amount of information we have, go to the lengths that Tara, Johnny and Adam and some other personalities go.

In my view they have been making the situation worse than it is (which is admittedly very bad already). Why did they, for example, have to claim that allowing KV to skate robbed all clean athletes of their Olympic experience, shattered their faith in FS, broke their hearts and so on? A Swedish skater (sorry I keep on talking about Swedes, I was catching up on the local news today) said in today's interview that while she thinks the KV situation is upsetting, it did not take anything away from her personal olympic experience and in her opinion it does not cast shadow on the glory of the Olympic moment (my translation). That's just one perspective to illustrate that maybe it's not entirely correct of Johnny to be speaking on behalf of all figure skaters and defending those that may very well feel like they do not need any defence or sympathy.

What else, their solemn discussions about figure skating having been forever tainted, Requiem for a dream being is the only appropriate soundtrack for today and so on - maybe it's cultural differences but this just feels disproportionate. They have every right to express their thoughts and be critical, but in my opinion, this is taking it too far. Yes, it was controversial to let Kamila skate (and did a great disservice to her) BUT she is participating on very restrictive terms, and she will bear the responsibility once the investigation is completed. I understand they want to see KV, TeamTut and Russia paying for what they've done here and now, but formal rules and legal guarantees mean that even the worst of criminals are not convicted and punished instantly.

Moving on, saying that allowing KV to skate encourages doping of underage skaters - I don't agree with this either. Who would want to put themselves through such an ordeal and be a subject to such humiliation and hate? I also feel it is wrong to drag Sasha and Anna in the mud and speculating that they are also not clean.

I also think it is hypocritical claiming their concern for KV being a minor. Yes they do not encourage putting the blame om Kamila and bullying her, and yet indirectly they do, due to the amount of outrage they stimulate. They don't judge Kamila - and yet subtly they do, for example when Tara was stating that being only 13 she was already very mindful of what she consumed.

I don't want to dissect their every argument and statement, some of them I even support, but if you look at the whole picture, the commentating of the event, the dramatic instagram stories with a black background, the hashtags they use and promote, the countless twitter posts full of disgust, the insinuations implicating Anna and Sascha, the interrogations of every skater about KV and so on and so forth - this whole picture does not feel reasonable, fair and humane, to me.

The Olympics needs to have zero tolerance. If you test positive, you're out. No exceptions. If you're too young to be held accountable for doping, then you're too young to compete.

I'm not surprised doping has continued, when state sponsored doping only resulted in a slap on the wrist by having athletes compete as ROC. Hardly a deterrent. I have no plans to watch women's FS tonight. Not going to waste time watching an unfair competition. This is a serious black-eye for the Olympics and for figure skating.

If Alysa Liu turned up positive, I would absolutely side with her. She's not in control of her life. Her father is. So, yes, if Alysa was dealing with this exact thing I would be staunchly supporting her.

I appreciate your honesty, and I believe your answer is sincere, even though I disagree.

If Alysa were found to be doping, I would wish for her to get help immediately and I would sympathize with her, just as I do with Kamila.

But I would NOT support her participating in the Olympic Games.

I think in America right now, many people have trouble with seeing things in shades of gray, especially because it's a Russian figure skater. I don't remember there being any outrage when Andreea Raducan got to keep her team and vault medals in 2000 and people wanted her to keep her all-around medal. I'm not even sure where I stand regarding Kamila anymore. I was really mad at first when they decided to allow her to compete in the individual event, but I think that anger might be hypocritcal because to this day I still wish Raducan had her all-around gold. I just wish they had gotten the results of Kamila's drug test sooner. Of course, it may or may not have been intentional given it wasn't flagged as priority. Why can't Russia just not cheat?

People keep bringing up Armstrong as some sort of gotcha. No one in the US believes that there aren’t cheaters in American sports. But it isn’t state endorsed, and when they are caught, the judgment is harsh. (With the exception of American Football-where some get a pass, but not from me).
