you know, Federer and Djokovic were not at the Australian Open this year and it was a thrilling competition. :)
Don’t the tennis players have really long careers and represent themselves, not countries? And, like, earn tons of money? Unlike, you know, the figure skaters?

Thrilling, lol.

my comparision was simply about the quality of the competition. Not about what the athletes live. Someone brought up the "imagine tennis without the big stars", well, we just had that, and it was great.

Too bad I don’t watch tennis. Without mincing words, the figure skating worlds this year are going to suck. If people can’t even acknowledge that Russian skaters majorly contribute to the enjoyment, I don’t know what to say.

Russia and Belarus are out of international competitions - including the upcoming Worlds in March.

Following the IOC recommendation, in order to protect the integrity of ice skating competitions and for the safety of all the participants of international ice skating competitions, the ISU Council based on Article 17.i.q)i) of the ISU Constitution, agreed that with immediate effect and until further notice, no Skaters belonging to the ISU Members in Russia (Russian Skating Union and the Figure Skating Federation of Russia) and Belarus (Skating Union of Belarus) shall be invited or allowed to participate in International ice skating Competitions including ISU Championships and other ISU Events. The same applies to Officials listed in the respective ISU Communications and/or Regulations under Russia and Belarus.

Thank you ISU..

A couple sports league did the same...

It’s funny, I actually have the opposite opinion. In women skating Russian skaters have actually reduced my enjoyment. That also extends to most of the Russian exports to other countries, the only exception really being Kurikova.

I know others find them unique, but something about the basic skating skills of Russian women is so off putting to me.

With that in mind, I don’t have the same issues with the other disciplines, T/M are probably my favourite pair.

I'm going to watch Worlds if it's on!

Kaori is fantastic, love Young You who will be right up there. Alysa could try a riskier layout and cause some trouble. Pity Mai won't be there! She could potentially cause some trouble too!

I'm just so sad Bradie and Rika can't participate 😭😭😭

The men's competition is going to be nuts regardless since they're all crazy good.

And I want the Olympic Bronze ice dance team (Hubbell and Donahue! I've since worked out their names!) to get another medal. They were amazing imo!!!!

You Young is young superstar...
Canadians will cheer for her..

Another thing ...

The wrong Russian girl won..
2nd place finisher won the free skate..though she should have 15 points on her total.

So technically she did win the Olympic free skate ... in which in the pro circuit is a very real title.

I wonder what kind of state Eteri is in right now?? Will Morisi be Zoom coached if he gets there? Will he just decide to move on to someone else? What about all the other Russian skaters representing other countries with Russian coaches? It will be a very interesting next couple of weeks!
if they are representing other countries, they will be there.

Pairs will be a bit sad without Russia especially if the Chinese pairs also withdraw. Russian pairs are fabulous. I'm sad about Kolyada. His FS is definitely among the top 10 best programs of this quad. I will also miss Mozalev. However, I won't miss the Russia women. I wouldn't have watched the women's event had Russia been participating. ( can't support doping and abuse). Now, I can watch all events without feeling a strange mixture of depression, sympathy, and anger.

ISU didn't have to bother to ban Russian skaters from event. They would not be allowed anyway. Not wanted in France, no way to travel they were not going to come.

No one calls sports "too political" when politicians congratulate olympic athletes on their performance or invite them to Parliament. Or when politicians give athletes national awards and prizes.
Didn't the Kremlin comment on the Kamila situation? How is that not political?
Sports are always political.
Edit: I don't fully know how I feel about this situation.

I will actually enjoy the women's competition a lot more, without the doping scandal and inherent child abuse casting a shadow. I will, however, very much miss S/B and Mark K. I would miss Liza if she had been scheduled to skate.

Enjoyment is subjective.

Personally, I belong to that group of fans that prefer quality over quantity; an extra revolution in the air doesn’t give me any kind of enjoyment if it’s combined with poor technique, excessive prerotations, cheated take offs, poor artistry, biased judging and, eventually, doping and child abuse.

So, the only thing that Russian skaters majorly contribute to is my gastritis, and this year I will finally enjoy Worlds.

Of course, this is just my opinion and everyone is free to disagree.

Im sorry but this will just make worlds 2022 results, illegitimate. when the best womans skaters are russian and they dont allow them to compete, the results will not be a real reflection of the best in world. the olympic results along with the results all season long will always be reminder of that. these athlete have not done anything to deserve this...
