Yes, there is a literal wealth of information about how under funded WADA is and how they unable to keep up with all the tactics used to evade detection. So I suppose all the tests they pass were wrong or the testing bodies are incompetent??

I don’t understand the critique of ISU coming from the other side. As in people saying too late or they surprised etc. ISU did the right thing, there should be support for that, particularly if you agree with the decision. That really confused me when people turned around and kicked ISU after they announced itI stand by ISU for making this decision now and don´t wait and give them false hope or put out another scandal like Olympic. If every other disciplines would ban the athletes except figure skating there would be exactly the same amount of negative media attention as with the doping scandal. The other athletes would not feel comfortable again with the situation, and it would be completely unfair for the others that another event would be overshadowed with another scandal. The athletes involved doesn´t deserve the negative attention that would be brought to them if they were allowed to compete. They don´t deserve it. Imo ISU is protecting them for not putting them in a position were they would constantly need to defend themselves again.
Me too. Sports should be sports, not politics. The skaters did nothing wrong. I am done with the ISU and IOC. I will not watch worlds 2022 and if necessary, any future figure skating events until the wrong is righted. As of right now I'm out as well from watching Worlds. Shouldn't go political, ISU.
I don't agree with the ISU decision. I condemn Putin. It doesn't mean I condemn every Russian. Imagine when the USA attacked Iraq, should they have banned all athletes from the USA? If the answer is no, this is hypocritical.I don’t understand the critique of ISU coming from the other side. I dunno. Everything just sucks right now thanks to Putin.
And yet, the labs caught traces for Callang, Barquero and Valieva. If the absence of a hit is a proof of wrongdoing, there is absolutely no way to tell anything. But if your point is along the lines of ‘thanks goodness Putin is killing Ukrainians, we can now ban all Russians because they are all dirty’, that’s a warped logic.Yes, there is a literal wealth of information about how under funded WADA is and how they unable to keep up with all the tactics used to evade detection.
One needs actual proof or its just blowing smoke.no, it means they were doping in training and the drug was out of their system by the time they were tested. they were playing the system.
however the doping issue doesn't belong in this thread and that is all i will say on it.
I just saw this on my page today. I guess this is old news but, it must be awful for all the clean athletes who were looking forward to this event. I think it would have given the clean athletes a chance to make a new impression on the skating fans. I was looking forward to seeing the other Russian Ladies and now they're all going down with the ship. What a heartbreak this must be for them. However, there are bigger things than figure skating and I think I'd have a hard time focusing on skating if my country was at war.Well, Well! This changes everything for all skaters in each discipline. This has become an entirely different event now hasn't it. Wondering how many skaters are being woken up at this hour being told of this breaking news....
I only condemn Putin and his cohorts among the Russians. Everyone who wears a green or white ribbon is my hero.I don't agree with the ISU decision. I condemn Putin. It doesn't mean I condemn every Russian. Imagine when the USA attacked Iraq, should they have banned all athletes from the USA? If the answer is no, this is hypocritical.
You have drastically inferred information in my posts that just isn’t there. And yet, the labs caught traces for Callang, Barquero and Valieva. You called all Russian medals tainted and celebrated the Russian athletes’ absence, due to the state-sponsored doping you firmly believe in, when ISU decision is an anti-war statement. What didn’t I understand correctly? You have drastically inferred information in my posts that just isn’t there.
Historically, calling for change and popular uprisings netted Russians the worse lot. In 1991 they were still willing to being ridden over by the tanks in Moscow, but given that it was first an addled alcoholic who came to power, and then Putin, just based on the outcomes of calls for change in recent times… and before that, it was Stalin who used the 1917s Revolution against the despotic czars, now upgraded into saints… there’s a Russian saying, ‘hoped for the best, turned out as usual.’When sports, businesses, communities, and families across the world—across Russia—recognize that this is not the will of the people, but of one pathetic, evil man, they will call for change. I hope that such change will come, and I have faith in this.
And this is where the water gets murky. As I've said before, when I was 14, my parents made every decision about when I'd go to a doctor and who that doctor would be. When I was a young performer, we were often given shots that were recommended by the tour company. We were told we needed them to go to Mexico. I'm sure my parents didn't think twice, and I was so excited to go on tour, I got the shot with a smile. I realize it's the skaters that are the people we see but, it's the people "Behind The Curtain" that need to be brought to the forefront. I also feel for athletes but, I agree that this is best solution for this immediate problem. This news of an ISU ban on Russian athletes seems appropriate to me. (Note the use of appropriate over fair.) Sport success is very important to Putin and the Russian government as evidenced by the state paying coaching fees/stipends to top athletes and the state-sponsored doping scandal. THis seems like a sanction against the Russian government.
It is true that individual Russian athletes are being caught and that is not "fair" strictly speaking. But it does seem the best call for the ISU.
this is not about doping @mrrice it's about warAnd this is where the water gets murky. I’m sorry for the athletes but Worlds will be awesome. Anything could happen! This comes as no surprise.
But I'm heartbroken for the athletes.
I'm out as well from watching Worlds.
So sad!

I know. I was responding to a different post. As far as holding the event during a time of war.....I know I wouldn't be able to concentrate on skating if I had family or friends in the thick of this war.this is not about doping @mrrice it's about war
