I disagree that either Chock/Bates or Guignard/Fabbri would be "very lucky" to win a World title. Both teams are highly successful in their own right, C/B have some of the best lifts in the field and have unique, appealing programs while G/F are very accomplished technicians who are often underscored. Both teams would be well deserving of a title, regardless of who is competing, in my opinion.

While S/K may have the advantage over both teams if they were competing, I don't think G/P or S/B competing would necessarily stop either team winning, C/B have only lost to G/P once for the whole quad (2021 Worlds), and have never lost to S/B. With H/D and P/C both (most likely) out, I don't see C/B dropping off the World podium this season or behind G/P or S/B, unless C/B make egregious errors or make an awful program choice. The new GOE-focused, less tech ice dance requirements also play in C/B's favour and they'll be the undisputed US no.1s.

G/F have placed behind both G/P and S/B more often, but they are more technically solid and have better skating skills than both teams; they also beat G/P by a significant amount at both the Olys and 2022 Worlds. They are probably less likely to win the title, but would be just as deserving of a World medal.
Agreed, and I’d also add that both C/B and G/F have worked hard and “waited their turn” for multiple Olympic cycles and I think both teams are continuing because they feel they have more to give to the sport. I’m a little annoyed by this narrative that G/P (the only team of the three that actually announced plans to retire at the end of the season, though it is possible they’re reconsidering) are the only ones with unrealized potential, particularly considering C/B nearly beat S/K at NHK Trophy this season and G/F have been consistently improving their results and have a real shot at taking the Euros title next year.

What the...????!!!! 😲 :jaw:

Very, very sad to hear that Emilea's Singles career is coming to an end. Although I wasn't a fan of her style of skating (after a while it became obvious that she was modelling herself on Ashley Wagner and, well, I never liked Ashley's style of skating), I really liked Emilea herself and what she was doing to help put Cyprus on the figure skating map. Let's not forget, it was Emilea that was making all the headlines during the first season after she and Marilena switched to Cyprus.

The thing that really got me behind Emilea, though, was all the abuse she was getting last season. It was disgraceful the things some people were saying. She did not deserve that. And I really hope that this decision to switch to Dance is because she wanted to help her friend out, and not a reaction to the abuse she was getting.

Although I am sad that she will (probably) not be representing Cyprus any more, I am happy that she is continuing to compete. And I am looking forward to seeing what they are like together. The partnership Vadym had with Avonley Nguyễn was just magic, so if even a little bit of that magic returns in this partnership with Emilea, they will be very good!

All the best to Emilea and Vadym.

And welcome to my crazy "family", Vadym!

P.S. On a trivial note, although I was angry about not getting it done, I'm now relieved that I had not had the time to do the major reconstruction of the Team Cyprus Fan Fest that I planned to do during the past couple of weeks. Because I would now be having to undo a large part of it! (That said, I did spend three entire days doing all the preparations! Which now has to be re-worked. :drama:)
I can't believe people were saying bad things. To quote Ted Barton, "who would say a bad thing about a skater?" I saw Emilea skate at Cranberry Cup and immediately went home and bought a Cyprus flag.

There could also be the issue of funding— Cyprus already has one very promising dance team, but I’m not sure if they are able to give much financial support to a second (or at all).
But how many are in the US? They will be lucky to be top 10 I expect.

I totally agree. Some people may not like the way that Ted sugar coats everything, but he is right that it is not nice to say bad things about a skater. After all, they are doing the best they can at that moment in time. And let's face it, many of us can't even dream of doing the things they're doing!

It really angers me the way Emilea was getting abuse thrown at her for not doing as well as we might have hoped at the Nebelhorn Trophy and, hence, Cyprus not getting a slot at the Olympics. And I really hated the way they turned it into an "Emilea v Marilena" thing. I actually prefer Marilena's skating, but I like both girls. And because I do not like seeing people getting kicked when they are down (or at all!), I took it upon myself to defend Emilea to the hilt.

The problem was that for many fans, the first time they found out that Cyprus now had Ladies skaters who could put up a genuine challenge was when Marilena won the Autumn Classic the week before. And because it was so fresh in their minds, they couldn't understand why Marilena wasn't the one sent to the Olympic qualifying event. So, when Emilea didn't do as well as that in Oberstdorf, she got crucified by many fans.

But those of us that had been following both girls since they made the switch to Cyprus the season before knew that Marilena can be prone to succumbing to nerves in high pressure situations. And you don't have a more high pressure situation than trying to qualify your country for their first ever appearance in figure skating at the Olympics. So, although Marilena was consistently scoring better than Emilea last season, when you take the previous season into consideration as well, Emilea was the more reliable pair of hands. And it was actually a wise decision to send Emilea.

Ultimately, it was having one mistake in each programe that cost Emilea: falling on the Triple Flip in the SP; and having a hand down on her second Triple Flip in the FS, meaning she got called for a repeated element because she couldn't get the planned combination attached. (I should add that it was not the case that Emilea was having problems with that specific jump, because the first Triple Flip in the FS was good).

Let's face it, anybody can have one mistake per programme. And in many events it wouldn't harm the skater's position. That it did in Oberstdorf was merely a symptom of just how close a competition it was.

Emilea certainly did not deserve to have abuse thrown at her because of it ever since.

That is why I really hope her decision to leave Singles skating was based on wanting to do a good thing for a friend in need, rather than being based on wanting to get away from nasty comments.

But, I am so happy that you got to see her skating live, and that it moved you to become a flag carrying supporter! :cheer:

Although I have been visiting Cyprus regularly since 1996, I only actually bought a flag a few years ago, because I was hoping to go and support a friend at her Junior GP debut. But, it didn't work out. And she is no longer competing, so I've missed my chance with her. 😞

Oh well. Maybe some time in the future it will get held up at a figure skating competition!

To be perfectly honest I don't think anybody knows quite what to expect under the new rules. I think until the end of the Grand Prix final it'll be hard to know the true pecking order, and even then they'll be modifications before Europeans/4CC's/Worlds as skaters adjust to the new elements/system and get new ideas etc. Really, it's anybody's game.
As far as I can tell, whoever the judges want to win will win. However I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, not that I'm holding my breath.

Czech junior ice dancers Denisa Cimlová/Vilém Hlavsa have split. Denisa writes that she'll continue representing the Czech Republic (no word about a new partner) and also mentions Vilém's health issues. So it's unclear if he'll continue.

Actually think in Dance it is partly who the Tec Specialist wants to win. How often have we seen a high Tec score for a team while they are skating only to have it drop by a lot when the score comes up.

Well they've taken away most of the tech comparisons (e.g. Pattern Dance) for next season. The judges will essentially have a lot more freedom with the GOE (GOE scale factor insane on some elements)

I am eagerly awaiting official confirmation, because so far it's unbelievable! Sorry @Szayel008 and @Sabine but I need more info before I believe this to be truth!

So they will represent Canada, if I understand correctly.
