Isn't this also a change in coaches for Tim Chapman? Weren't he and Ellie training in California or am I dreaming that?

Could be the reason....

Ellie Korytek and Timmy Chapman (Pairs, USA) have ended their partnership. Timmy is searching for a new partner.

Well, that's surprising considering they skated in a charity show in early May and seemingly attended US pairs camp together (and, of course, due to how long they've been waiting to finally be eligible for international competitions). Anyways, good luck to both of them.

Berk Akalin (Ice Dance, Türkiye) announced his retirement.

He was partnered with Katarina Delcamp, which also means that they've split as a team (but are still together off the ice from his Instagram post).

Wowsa! After waiting all that time to be able to finally compete internationally due to the age restriction! 😳

This is a good example of the fact that skaters must be given chances to compete a lot in order to improve. If you can't compete together, you can't improve together. Things begin to get stale.

Of course, their split could also be in part due to other unknown personal/ logistical factors. With Timmy moving to Boston for coaching, Ellie may not have desired to leave California and/ or Irvine coaches.

7 international competitions (plus Nationals) did not stop Väänänen/Clerici from splitting. Digerness/Sadusky had fewer competitions this season (and in previous ones) and they didn't split. The majority of the Russian pairs have been competing in only a few domestic competitions for the last few years and a number of them are still together.

Of course, if there is no avenue at all for competing together for a significant amount of time (because of federation issues, for example, or big age gaps in countries that follow the age eligibility rules for domestic competitions as well), teams will split, because a career in sports is short enough as it is. This is just not one of those situations, especially as they were still skating together last month, even attending US pairs camp together.

@Jumping_Bean, thanks for your comments. The need for skaters to compete in order to improve is paramount. That necessity, I was not tying to whether teams split or not. Any further on this, let's take to a different thread.

Tasha Lai and Gabriel Liu are a new Ice Dance team. No country confirmation yet, she represented Taiwan last season and he competed with Audra Gans at Canadian Nationals.

The start order says BC/YK for their province, but that's not confirmation of representing Canada.

I found their team account, https://www.instagram.com/tasha_gabriel_tpe

Given that it has TPE in the username, I am taking it as they are representing Taiwan.
