Russian Junior Test Skates 2022

Lots of mistakes from the girls, going off that list, it seems only 3(if I counted correctly) ultra-c elements were landed cleanly. But it's only test skates, so it's not that big of a deal.

Also, Roxanne for Nika...I don't consider Roxanne an appropriate song for a 14-year-old junior :bang:not to mention it doesn't seem like a good fit for Nika. Not rlly happy with the song choices for her this season, but I'm willing to give them a chance.

No. Sofia's programs are both very good, so what happened with Nika? Neither program works and Plushy's team is capable of putting together good programs.

BTW, choreographer for Zhilina - Radionova. She wrote this in her insta.
Oh dear. And the problem with both programs is they are 'old school' and dated. Since this is a domestic year for Russia, they need to network with more outside choreographers-workshop some better music and ideas. Most of the girls-except Nika-had interesting music selections-or at least interesting covers of standards.

eh, I haven't watched any of the full programs yet, but I'm not a fan of Titova's fp music either

That might explain it, those music choices seem like something Radionova would like...

Just caught up to the girls, I like the LPs of Zinina (new environment seems to suit her, keep up the momentum/confidence💪), Zakharova (minus the splats), Gorbacheva (until the vocals started) and Kulikova (slightly quirky English cover of Ne Me Quitte Pas, I prefer it over the original 😆)

Just started to watch—yay, weekend at last!

Sarnovskiy looked very solid for this time of year to me. He might grow on me yet! Lazarev, unfortunately wasn’t as convincing as he was in short, but I liked the music and his spins are very cool imo. I think it’s a matter of time! I think gonna root for Lazarev this season.

aww, but they do teach them to skate pretty in Piter. 🤞 for jumps for both Zonov and Ugozhaev. Classic-ish but pleasant stuff. Zonov seems to like baby-blue this season heh. Then Dikidhzi was all emo drama, heh. I also strongly prefer less falls 🙌

Fedotov skated so well, but given his team’s record with junior men, I’m not holding my breath. 🥹 sad to see Anisimov struggle too. I am starting to think maybe pairs actually are viable if he is willing? Nice to Russian text too. I was hoping with internal season, they’d dig up more Russian music. Unless they are all hoping to keep programs for next year, if, with luck… Ramzenkov was very nice, but now I really want Mozalev to start looking for a new choreographer because copy-paste is strong there.

Yeah, Roxanne is as horrible as it always was. But omg, was Gorbacheva equisite. So happy she was invited!

Oh, gosh, poor Ponteleenko! That looked like a really hard fall that knocked the wind out of her. Gosh, these kids are something else.

I am too tired to enjoy the next group with all the attention they deserve so I am just going to save it for tomorrow night!

I think most of the guys struggled today, compared to last year's test skates. On the bright side, when the jumps aren't there at least we get to focus on their choreography 🤔 Case on point Ugozhaev didn't have a great skate but is clearly one of the stronger juniors on a good day, and both his programmes look promising.
I think Anisimov is dead-set on singles, and why not, if he enjoys it - he and the coaches seem pretty unbothered post-skate and it's early in the season. BTW do you know what music he is using in the LP after the Vampire Waltz part?
Interestingly Denis Lunin also worked with the Selevko brothers but their choreo doesn't strike me as very reminiscent of Mozalev. Maybe Lunin is more creative with senior clients...

A little reminder for everyone: Nastya Zinina's programs were also done at AoP, the Short by Dmitry Mikhailov (who did all of AoP's skaters' programs except for Veronika's), the Free by Elena Radionova (who did Nika's programs).

Clearly, some choreographers work well for some athletes and not for others.🤷‍♀️

Wow! I haven’t watched the test skates. Will try to watch later on this weekend to see who I enjoyed.
If someone were to score these test skates, where do you think these juniors rank? I can’t wait to watch my fave Yametova’s programs. She is my favourite and hopefully she finished in the top half.

I do now not share the opinion that Ramzenkov is being made into Mozalev's little brother. For me, he has a certain special style, different from Andrei (let's not pay attention to his young age yet). It's hard for me to explain the difference, but the artistic style of Ivan's presentation seems a little different, more open, or something (and again I remind myself that I'm writing about a boy 12 y.o., sorry, I've been following him since he was 9). And if he needs long spaced eagles and choreoscenes to express himself, then so be it, not to give it up because that's what Andrei does. I could be wrong, but I sense a difference.

By the same token, I don't think Andrei needs to give up any elements of his choreography for the sake of novelty. But if he adds something new, that would be interesting too. This season he has had the opportunity to work with different choreographers, let's see what's new in his style.

The choreography of the programs for the Shelkovnikov brothers and Arseny Dimitriev is also very different from what Andrei shows. Ivan probably seems to be the most similar to Andrei figure skater from the Davydenko Band.
