Kwan's New Assignment -- Song-Writers?

Why don't we let the lady do her new job?

That's a heluva long trip to get to BA. Argentina has produced many superb ballet dancers for the past twenty-five years. I've been waiting for them to crack the figure skating milleu.

I thought they already had cracked it. They send a bunch of people to the world championships and won some medals.

But that's roller skating, which is lot more practical for Argentina than ice skating (IMO). Why isn't roller skating in the summer olympics? It certainly seems international enough.

Back on topic, not long ago I wrote somewhere else that I could totally see Kwan getting into politics (as in elected office) in a few years.

Who is keeping her from doing her job? Who is stopping her? With all due respect, sometimes your comments really puzzle me...

As for the Tango. It originated in Spain, travelled to France, then to Italy where Italian emigrants brought it to Argentina. They do dance it better in Argentina then what we see on the ice. If you ever heard of The Beguine, that was a Trinidadian version of the Tango.

Was all that clear?

Ballet in Buenos Aires is regarded highly and they have produced fine bailerinas and bailarinos.

I hope Michelle has fun and learns a lot!! and yes, i hope she learns the tango!

does anybody know is she is still attending the University of Denver? How can she take all that time off from class?

That is a great trip for Kwan! By the way, did anyone notice from the Kathleen Bangs article in IFS April issue, that Lysacek got a phone call from Kwan before his freeskate in US Nationals?

"The nine-time U.S. and five-time World champion called not only to wish Lysacek luck on retaining his title, but also offered a few strategic pointers on how to keep focused and get the job done."

Let's not forget Finnish tango, for some reason it remained popular and current there long after most of the rest of the world forgot about it or left it to the Argentinians.... It doesn't much sound like Argentian tango either but it's a very fun musical tradition.

What do you base that on? Her popularity? Her interests? What do you imagine she'd run for? As a what?

I base it entirely on guesses.
Those guesses are based on her current position (possibly a way of testing the waters to see if she can/wants to function in that world) and partly by what I perceive as her personality. She's always seemed like a natural diplomat - she's been making diplomatic statements in public for over half her life and hardly ever slipped up.
She's never betrayed more than a passing superficial interest in other forms of entertainment and doesn't seem that interested in coaching. IINM she's declared political science as a major.

I'd assume that if (and that is a very big if) she decideds to run for office it would be at the local/state level first.

As for party, I have no idea.

Who knows she may not have any interest in that area (or may decide it's not for her if she does try it) but somehow it seems like something she might/could do (and I can't think of any other US skater I'd say that about).

Her paternal aunt is in office (local of course)

There are many ways to serve the public without being in elected office, such as being an envoy or diplomat. Many of the president's cabinet and advisors have never been elected to any office. So, she can certainly use her degree in a non-elected position.

Yes - Projected graduation is December.

She is not taking time off from class. Finals ended March 14 and the Interclass period extends from March 15 - March 23.

Anyone know the requirements that she would have to meet if Michelle wanted to run for the presidency of the ISU?
