Besides the great coverage on TV the CBC has live coverage of the Worlds at Country Canada.ca - anyone check this out? It's great!

"My hat is off to the CBC" ! I wish they were going to cover the 2010 games here. I hope CTV does as good a job as the CBC.

Any loonies/toonies going to CBC are well spent, as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, CBC has its own blemishes like the "A Little Mosque on the Prairie" (Just a joke).

Yes, it's great we're getting the coverage on Country Canada. However...

PJ Kwong needs to shut up and let the pictures tell the story every once and awhile. She chitter chatters far, fat too much. Something she/CBC CC need to remember too is that for the most part, the people who are watching this coverage are people like us. The hardcore fans and more than likely for those skating clubs that have a lounges and TV's. They'll have it too if they have access to Digital TV.

We don't need to be told the difference between a twist and a throw. Mind you, my Dad who doesn't watch all that often was pretty annoyed by that one too. To quote him, "Why is she telling us this Hon? Isn't it pretty obvious?" If my Dad can figure that one out on his own, then...

Oh and I wish, wish, wish she'd stop using the French pronoucation of Megan Duhamel's last name!! I keep wanting to pitch something at the TV when PJ does that. If Scott Russel, Tracy, Kurt and the announcer in the actual arena can get it right, more than likely after being told by Megan, then so can PJ. I'm from the same area as Megan and her family does *not* prounounce it the French way. It's Duh-HAM-el. Not Duh-ah-mel.

All that aside though...Was the singing of the German National Anthem by that choir a lovely touch, w/out a doubt yes. You say that after it's done, not in the middle of it. I couldn't believe PJ did that earlier this afternoon and was a bit thoughtless. You just don't do that during anyone's National Anthem.

Like I said, the coverage's great, but when one person is louder than three on the Main Network, then you've got a problem. If she could just curb her babbling, then the coverage would be excellent!!

i agree with all 3 of fumie's points but yea pj kwong really does need to not talk as much. "so and so touched down then lost hold and fell on that 2A" yea no really, even people who don't know skating much would know that they fell

Actually, I quite like the commentary. I wondered who it was. The CBC has a great history of producing wonderful docmentaries. Their approach to anything is always with a good eye for detail and well researched commentaries. This might not be everyones "cup of tea." I am quite enjoying it. It's better than three commentators droning on about nothing.

I like PJ alot, but she does talk a bit too much. Calling the jumps and elements and whether the jump was underrotated or not. It's not hard to tell when a person has a hand down and I don't need to be told that the footwork or spin was lovely, used the music well or that they have reached their final pose. That being said, she knows what she's talking about and her comentary was helpful during the CD, especially to compare with Tracy Wilson's on the main broadcast. I just wish she'd leave most of the anylising for the replay, but maybe she feels the need to talk as she's the only one there? Her voice is less intruding than alot of commentators on the main network, so that's preferable.

PJ really needs to learn to shut up during the performances, it totally disrupts the music.

It seems like this season almost all the commentators learned to keep the yapping down during the performances, PJ could take that hint.

That said, think positive: it could be Scott Hamilton

And the greatest news: ALL THE COMPLETE EVENTS are available on demand at their website, that includes outside Canada. Yiipeee!

Yes. I love CBC documentaries. The latest one I watched is "the selling of Alberta." It was about how the government of Alberta giving away its oil to American big oil giants for $2 per barrel, when one barrel sells for $100 in the market. On top of them, alberta lowered the loyalty from $4 per barrel to $2 to keep the American companies.

So, what's left in Alberta, when the boom is over? The wasted land, after the oil sands are completed depleted, green house gas, they have to sequester to meet the green house emission quota and distorted, overpriced economy, where middle class families are struggling to keep up with rising prices and of course the permanent damage on Borreal forest.

This fast-track, oil colony type of development is totally against the idea of former Premier of Alberta, Peter Lowheed , who promoted controlled development of the province. This documentary is well-made, beautifully constructed.

Yes, Big thanks to CBC country Canada! Hard to wait to midnight but I will tonight. I missed part of Joannie and Yu-na because of frozen screens(?). I mean it had been great until the last group, too much viewers or I need a new computer? You know when I was grateful for PJ's comment? When the screen was frozen Anyway, she's far from annoying, her vioce is deeper and she is quite good at figure skating. But it does appear a bit too much.

CBC coverage

Finally a day off tomorrow so I can stay up to watch the skating on CBC at midnight, hopefully there is prime time coverage on the weekend. Saw a tiny bit of the Ladies short program last night, Kurt Browing seemed a little off or some thing and Tracy Wilson's skin tone microphone bud made her look like she had a huge wart on her cheek. The fact that the Worlds are being shunted to the middle of night is a reflection of the sad state of skating coverage today - the American channels just show disconnected bits and pieces. I blame the safe and boring skating that started with the Yagudin and Plashenko years (Yagudin flings his hand up and looks anguished, Plashenko wiggles for the judges. Yawn) I do like a lot of the current skaters but there are no risk takers or innovaters and the drop off in attendance and coverage reflects this. I don't think skating will be back in prime time until some skaters start raising the excitement that a lot of the skaters of the late 80's and the 90's did.

Been watching the event today on CBC's live feed, which has been great.

I may be wrong, but the main CBC website seems to indicate that they've added an extra hour of figure skating coverage today (Friday) on the main network at 7:30pm.

I actually enjoyed the Country Canada commentator but I think the average skating fan is not going to "find" the skating on this channel. They're also not staying up until midnight to watch the big names commentate so I am confused by their reasoning on this. Obviously it's for financial reasons that CBC isn't broadcasting in prime time (they've had some financial problems in the last few years and have lost some of their big time broadcasters).

I know that someone will post that I'm missing the point of their coverage but I actually am at a point in my life where I don't want to watch 3 hours of endless coverage every night - I'd prefer the packaged programming. Hopefully it's better next year.

I appreciate the live coverage and I watched it on CBC's website this weekend. But I agree that I am also in the point in my life where I prefer the packaged programming in primetime. I can't stay up until 2am on a weekday watching skating and I can't watch the live coverage during the day when I'm at work. That's why I appreciated the fact that they had clips on CBC's website.

It's strange to me that with Canada's figure skating history, they weren't showing this primetime. Almost no one got to see Dube/Davison skate to bronze. I know for awhile, there were no big names to draw people in, but if the sport doesn't get broadcast in primetime on a main network, then these skaters will never get known by the public and it becomes a vicious circle. Maybe with Canada's success at these worlds, CBC will be willing to take the "risk" of showing more skating in primetime.

If CBC brings the figure skating back on the main channel, something has to go instead. It could be Hockey Night in Canada, Rick Mercer Report, The Hour, Red Green Show, whatnot. It will end up pissing off a lot of viewers. A lot of prime time shows in CBC are quite popular.

Anywho, let's not forget to leave a thank-you comment on CBC, Skate Canada site and to the coaches including Manon Perron, Annie Barabe, Lee Barkell, Scott Davis, Joanne McLeod, Don Law, Ellen Burka.

Actually, Scott Moore (The Head of CBC Sports) took the time and courtesy to post in the comments section below the article at CBC Sports.ca on Jeff's Short Program and the rest of the Men's SP's last night. He let us know it wasn't due to money or not wanting to show such a prestigous event properly, but they just weren't able to change their schedule to allow Worlds to have a Prime Time slot this week. Remember, it was looking like there wouldn't *be* Worlds coverage here in Canada until January. That didn't leave CBC w/much time to put something together, so they've done what they could w/the time they had given to them.

And for those thinking "Yeah, right!!", as he reminded everyone last night, their programming schedule is planned and plotted months in advance. You combine that w/having to wrangle w/angry sponsors who are demanding answers to why the shows they sponsored are being bumped all of a sudden in their eyes and...

Considering he didn't even have to post an explaination of any kind, I think that shows just how important the skating coverage is and means to the CBC. Mr. Moore has promised us there will be a much different coverage of LA Worlds and I believe him. I think the CBC has done a great job in a very short time and what they were forced to work w/ and Congratulations to them.

Now they just have to get PJ to tone things down a bit (and to say Megan's last name right and that Smooth Rock Falls is *not* Jeff's hometown. Sudbury is!! And we are so proud of him!!!) and things will be great next year!!
