2023 U.S. Nationals Sr. Men's Free Skate

I would have been thrilled with a Jason win but politics wise it makes no sense. Given that Ilia has potential to win Worlds they wouldn't want to send him there after losing to Jason if they could help it.
that's an interesting angle - and I'd missed this aspect completely - that makes sense - thanks for sharing that

Actually I think this is what makes the sport interesting. This debate has been going on for decades and will never end.
I can tell you who the fans preferred. And honestly I don’t think that’s good for figure skating. At least my man got a bye for next year. At the least. And I guess if #1 and #2 have pre declined that would give Jimmy a 4CCs spot, yes? And thank the skating gods he has a bye. If he had ended up in 6th for a 3rd consecutive time I would have lost my mind.

I did a post about minimums here is the link

My two cents… Ilia needs to do one/two combos in the first half.
Jason, remove the 3F as your final jumping pass (second time in a row, this has happened)
Andrew, you were perfect tonight (Also, this is the ideal layout I like to see; one quad, one triple axel and then beautiful triples till the end of the program)
Too many skaters think that because they can land a 4T and 3A, that they need to go for two of them each; but, if they land one each cleanly, two 3Lz and two 3F is a smart layout; especially considering the success rates fro, quads compared to triples, from a statistics perspective
Maxim - perfect layout. Just work on consistency
Jimmy - good for you; pretty sure we will see him at 4CC. Which, is the most he can ask for

I think it's just a travesty that the jumps are awarded so many points in comparison to PCS.
Jason was clearly the better figure skater in this competition.

I believe when they dropped "figures" they dropped "figure skating".
Then they decided to award many, many points to quads and consider them more important than spins, edges, smooth quiet skating and everything else that goes into PCS.

Time to split this and have a jump competition and a PCS competition. OR fix the amount of points awarded to jumps.

Is this a dream or is this real life???? My dream podium😭

Ilia:
He cannot be denied, and I wouldn't want to. ;)

Jason:
What else is there to say? Only Jason can give us those pure authentic feels coming straight from the heart and the ice that are Jason.❤️

Andrew:
I'm still shook. All my years of fandom paying off. (yes it is about me:LOL:) *That* is what Andrew T. has to give the skating world.:hap10:

I do not think it will be this bad for worlds. He can do better. I believe that his team is going to fix the problems. I think that he got ahead of himself and starting losing focus. That's why the strange pops happened. He does not do that. After Raf's screams at him over this he will not do this again. One last not I think he needs Raf to start coming to his competitions and actually coach him. As wonderful as his parents are I think it is time to start the transition of Raf taking over as Ilia's full time coach. He needs this because he getting to the point in career where he needs tough love and blunt honestly to help him reach his full potential.

Nice job on the FS from Jason, even with the slight stumble. Congrats to him on the Silver medal. Ilia looked extra nervous and not his best skate with that fall but congrats to him on the Gold and well deserved! I guess we have a new Natl Champion now and the future moves along. IM should go to 4CC and work out some kinks and learn how to calm himself just a bit more. But so proud of him and his meteoric rise.
