Mens Short

Wow, that was a great SP competition. Everyone skated so well. Tomorrow should be exciting!

I hope it won't turn out like the ladies' LP -- remember the ladies' SP was pretty awesome too...

So happy for Johnny!

There is no ban on "vocals." Programme music may include the human voice if it is used as an instrument, solely to add some more notes to the harmony. What is banned is actual understandable words -- lyrics.

I can't bring anybody's music to mind except Verner's, which is definitely scat. Not lyrics. Does Brian have actual words?

But IMHO, it's still rather strange that it's become an issue after the panels at SkateCanada and Euros didn't penalize it.

It was just announced that Joubert was docked for vocals. I hope that his team protests, because he skated to the same short all season long.

My understanding is that deductions are "field of play" decisions and cannot be appealed. Am trying to find a referee here to confirm.

This is screaming wuz robbed to me. He was never deducted for it and probably can't appeal. Why on earth would they do this now?
I'm also biased towards Brian because he is one of my favourites. But this is getting stranger by the moment.

OMG, that was a joy to watch! Thank you, guys!

Can't wait for tomorrow, this gonna be nail-biting ... of course I have a slight preference for my beloved Johnny, but somehow I can't wish anything bad to the other guys .. they're all so great in their diversity, talk about real characters!

I "love" them all and I'm looking forward to an unforgettable competition on Saturday. Wishing all the best ... may the best guy win! :agree:

It's not biased to feel disturbed about this, I think. I want my dream podium, and it doesn't include Brian. But I would prefer that there not be some bizaare controversy attached to it!

I like the SP! So many great performances. Joubert was a pleasant suprise. I actually liked his program very much, maybe for the first time? Too bad he got that absurd vocal deduction. Looking forward to an excellent LP competition tomorrow!

oouph, such a relief Changjiang Li got to skate the LP, hope he does well. Happy for Jeff and Patrick Chan! Good job. Do better tomorrow Patrick! Good world debut. He looked belong to that last group.

Go Jonny, go Stephane, go Brian and everybody else! Like somebody said already when there are so many excellent skaters and no specific favorate for me this year, the only thing left is to enjoy!!! Bottom line, I'd like to see somebody with quad(s) and a great skating win the Gold. Jeff or Jonny or somebody else;) without quad but skated perfectly magic program win the silver or bronze is ok for me. Anyway, wish whoever skate best win the GOLD!

I spoke to and ISU referee during the last ice cut. Was told (only this official's view - not an official position) that deductions are field of play and not appealable. Was also told the French team is trying to get an appeal accepted anyway.

There's still a LP you know. Don't give up hope! I want Russia to have more spots next year too. I have faith in Sergei that he can deliver a top 10 overall!

I am almost affraid too hope. He is so far behind. And I may not even be able to see him tonight on CBC. :( Stranger things have happened, so I guess it ain't over till it is over.

Indeed, nice pic of Joubert and Verner on icenetwork.

I'm rooting for Jeff to skate clean tomorrow and at least get a medal.

What a great competition for men! I couldn't believe that Buttle could ever be the first in SP in this deep field. Happy for him! I love all top six skaters. I still think that Daisuke will get gold, and it's hard for Jeffrey, even for Johnny to medal. I am so excited. Couldn't wait till tomorrow.

While I don't have time to read the whole thread...I was very surprised when I logged on a little while ago and saw the results of the mens short. I would have have picked Buttle and Weir to be 1 and 2!!

Should be very interesting tomorrow night.

I just watched Johnny's SP and grinned like an idiot throughout the entire thing...that is the Johnny I first became a fan of. He's back this season, big time.
I hope he can hold it together for the LP and medal, he definitely deserves it.
Now I have to hunt for more videos because it sounds like all the men were amazing..

Edit: Jeremy could have been in the Top 10 if not for that darned axel! I just watched his SP and my goodness, he's quickly becoming a new favorite. Just a little more consistency and he'll be a force to reckon with IMO.

ITA!!! What a great competition!:rock: And for once, I agree with our German commentators: those guys are still rather young, so we might enjoy them a while longer ;) What a joy after those boring years following the Plush-Yags times ;)
