2023 Lake Placid Ice Dance International | Jul 31 - Aug 2

Sorry for asking what has probably been said already, but does anyone have videos of the seniors' FD?

Now back at the hotel. This was my first time seeing the Browns live. They take the ice with a bit of attitude—not arrogance exactly, but as if to say, We Are Something Special and We Are Going To Show You Right Now. And then they proceed to do it. Just amazing performance skills—you can’t take your eyes off them. I am so glad training part time in Montreal hasn’t beaten that out of them!

Another team that looked good tonight was Pate and Bye! I’ve not been a fan in the past, but they have clearly upped their game since I saw them last, skating more freely (and faster!) than before, with a top-notch program to Bobby Brown’s My Prerogative. Though they still remind me of teddy bears, they could not have pulled this off even a year ago, so, well done.

May I also say that one thing I love about this year’s RD theme is that everyone is using the ORIGINAL versions of their music—I assume they have to, but still! And the choices are more creative than we might have expected. Tonight I heard not only INXS, Prince, George Michael, and Janet/Michael Jackson, as you might expect, but the B52s, Blondie, Billy Idol, Men Without Hats, the Pointer Sisters, Run DMC, and many more!
I was not impressed by Browns. Attitude yes but the same bent body and no extentions.

Seems like the Browns can do that too 🙈

They can bring the drama, but not only in the ironic way that I think you mean this. ;)

They have creative positions, intriguing steps, and enough personality (particularly Gage, who is second to none in the performance department) to pull this music off.

Is it what I would have chosen for a young, dynamic team? No, but no one asked me. :)

Oona and Gage should be very proud of this showing, particularly given her uncharacteristic fall. I am looking forward to the next comp.

Oona and Gage's FD. Wow, they bring the drama as always even matching this bombastic tune. Looking forward to this without the fluke fall:hap10:.

(embedding the tweet, let me know if you can't see it, but I like to give credit to the Twitter source. Also I'm not going to Twitter Video Download or whatever that program is . So we see Molly and Dmitre too; the more the merrier :) )

Diana and Gleb - FS - It's super campy and I love it!
Also, @elektra blue do we take nominations for the WTF costume awards this early in the season?

I’m sorry to break this to you, but there were two other candidates for Worst Costume(s) of the Year during the same FD event: Lanaghan/Raz and A. Kiliakov. All must be seen to be believed.

I agree about Gleb, though: the body of the shirt owed a lot to Johnny Weir’s costume for his Swan program back in the day, but for me the Snow White-inspired little puffy sleeves put it even further over the top.

Sigh, I refuse to use twitter so no views for me. Thankfully I have wonderful GS friends who give great reports.
If you are thinking of my reports here (and I am too modest to assume you might be), well, thank you! I do best to be of service to the Golden Skate fan community, and to skating fans generally :)

Also, if Ive missed mentioning anyone’s favorite(s), just PM me (ideally while my memories are still fresh!) and I’ll be happy to discuss!

So I looked at Molly and Dimitre just now, because I couldn't embed Oona and Gage without embedding them.

What in the name of Kevin Aymoz gladiator costume (which I actually really liked) was that? What does it have to do with Lord of the Dance.

And over the boot tights. In ID particularly. Just say no. :( I'll chalk that up to maybe her real tights aren't ready).

Solid black over the boot tights, too, with a pure white dress. But it was poor Dmitre’s costume that took this to the next level. When he skated out, my guess was that we would see a Freddie Mercury program.

The Carol Lane camp’s approach to costuming was consistent, I will give them that. When her teams took the ice for their warmups with their groups, I could immediately tell which skaters were hers.

In the article:
Hubbell coached the Italian ice dance team of Leia Dozzi and Pietro Papetti, as well as the Canadian teams of Alyssa Robinson and Jacob Portz and Lily Hensen and Nathaniel Lickers.

I look forward to seeing her work

I couldn't get any music on the Instagram post, so I don't know if they're supposed to be Romeo and Juliet or Swan Lake or what. If it's R&J, I do have to say that his sleeves were in style in Quattrocento Italy, so possibly accurate, if not attractive today. But the tutu confused the issue. (I hope it wasn't as stiff as in ballet. The men tend to get cut across the chest when their ballerina partners in short tutus do pirouettes in close proximity. On ice, if he flinches she's in trouble.)

But two Really Ugly Lifts in one program? And at least one Really Ugly Move -- that spread-eagle death spiral thingy? Pure Freddie Trinkler. Gack.
