Lia and Trennt off to GPF after winning Grand Prix de France ! Bravo !

Great performance too by Lolo and Nik with a silver !
Lia and Trennt have really solidified themselves in second place in Canada, and I think they have a really bright future. Lia is such a warm presence on the ice and has such star quality. They are coming along so well. What they've managed to accomplish in such a short period of time is just so impressive. I also really saw at Grand Prix de France that they've really been putting in effort on the PCS. It was evident, especially in the FS. I'm really excited for this team. And with Deanna and Max pushing for the very top, pairs in Canada is looking pretty darn good again.

Haven't had a chance to watch the dance yet. I'm hoping I like FB/S's FD better than I did the first time I saw it.

Agreed. And Lia is such a star!!

I am so happy for you. Great results in Pairs and Dance, and well deserved too. No reason(s) to discuss results and placements.

Hoping that having her friend Lia win a GP event might stir Maddie to up her game next week and go for a medal. Really think if Maddie can put together two back to back clean skates she can medal with the programs she has this year.

Sadly, three of our four remaining probable medal contenders on the Grand Prix will be competing at Cup of China, so live-watching from this point is going to be decidedly a challenge.

Incidentally, Cup of China is the only 'regular' Grand Prix that Piper & Paul have never been to before now.

The field in China is pretty tough -- she'd have to beat one of Loena, Mai, and Ye-lim, plus two other more inconsistent but still capable Japanese skaters, and also Kurakova, and Petrokina.

I forgot to add, Canada currently tops the Grand Prix medal table.

This won't last, in all likelihood; Canada's realistic best case scenario is two more gold and two more silver, whereas Japan could realistically win 5-6 more gold medals in the singles disciplines. But we have a great shot at being second, the US really only has Chock & Bates' second gold medal to count on at this point.

Considering the few skaters competing for Canada, the success rate is pretty high. Women : 4 spots in total. Japan has 18 spots.
You can't win medals if you are not competing. You cannot win medals if you don't qualify for the event.

But of course, this mostly reflects Canada's strength in Pairs and Dance, which is great. Thanks for sharing.

Now that senior/junior pairs sectionals has ended in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta:

Izzo/Ferland probably won't be ready for Nationals this season based on their first competition. Once they get their technical side up, I'm interested in seeing how they do.

Bombardier/Farand looked a lot stronger here, just do not like the choice of song for their free with Fiona's personality. Why would you give Fiona a dreary song? That's just wrong.

I liked Yudin/Wright in Ontario Junior Pairs, opposite jumping directions looked really neat :)

Custodio/Hammer from Alberta is one I want to shout out because Christopher Hammer did not have the greatest competition in senior men, but I was impressed with his transformation in junior pairs.

BTW when I mentioned Josefin getting her SP Worlds TES min : i did mention she didn't do a 3-3... BUT here is what she did

3f, 3t-2t, 2a (no backloading) She got all level 4s on spins and steps. She didn't get high GOEs at all, mostly +1 and + 2 That's why it is aggravating. Our skaters should get multiple chances to get their minimums... They could even dumb down their tech content to make sure that they get positive GOEs on all jumping passes as really, there is no lutz nor loop nor 3-3 nor backloading in Josefin's program. I don't see why Kaiya and Sara-Maude cannot get their scores at challengers.

Starting to wonder if our CAN men are trying to add too much Tec content to their programs too early. I know they need high Tec to stay competitive but maybe they are pushing themselves too fast. Stephen landed 2 Quads in both the short and the free but messed up on some of his triple jumps. Had he simply went for one solid clean Quad in each and cleaning landed all his triples, chances are he would have finished top 5.
But then what? You would get nailed eventually because he wouldn't have enough quads. I'm not saying that a Grand Prix is a nothing event, but at least he knows he can do the quads in that context, and presumably if he represents Canada a world, which I think he has a good chance of doing, then it will have been great practicing and landing them in a competitive environment. I think long-term, it is a good idea to be practicing a loaded program when it "doesn't count", so to speak

Also, Canada might send the most participants to Senior GP Finals. With 5. Japan is the only other country in contention for sending the most athletes with Canada 👏

Let's hope for that..... I looked too and it is indeed very promising with how the way things are now.

I get why he has the quads in his program and he has landed them in competitions before, like other Grand Prixs. Landing them in competitions like here is good for him, especially after the issues he had with his short last season. But Stephen is already getting low marks on PCS by the Canadian judges in international competition. They want more than quads from him.

I think the other men would be fine going for the jumps that they can land in competition and adding more in later once they've established some consistency. Stephen, it's a tough position for him since he's the former quad prodigy. I'm just happy he did as well as he did here under the circumstances. Getting any experience is good.

Is it too early to think about who will go to Worlds???

Ice Dance is pretty much locked - Gilles/Poirier (will most likely be gold medal favs), Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen, Lagha/Lajoie
Pairs - Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps, Pereira/Michaud, is the last one going to be McIntosh/Mimar or will it be another pair
Ladies - I cannot imagine they send anyone other than Schizas, but if she is not clean and someone else is, would they actually someone else?
Men - I cannot imagine who they will send and we need to fill 2 spots...I do not have any guesses...

Agree with with everything. I'd go with Gogo for sure, as he's shown the most growth and consistency this year.

Number two? Who knows. If wesley can tidy things up a bit, I'd say he has a better chance for PCS. But it could go either way.
