2024 U.S. Nationals Senior Free Dance

I think I was maybe most disappointed with Zingas/Kolesnik's skate as that free dance really sings when it's skated well and I was hoping they'd have a moment with it here.
I wonder if they were getting sick…cause they were unusually off.

This is likely. They could’ve encountered anyone sick at the arena who touched the doorknob of the bathroom or lockerroom.
Also - It was Ashley and Adam saying that Madi and Evan have the flu. I assume they COVID tested or they wouldn't have been there, but we don't actually know WHAT they are sick with. Could be flu. Could be food poisoning of some sort, or other malady less contagious. I don't want to assume just because Ashley and Adam say "flu" that they have officially been diagnosed with the flu.

So, who do we send to 4CC?

I have to agree. I see the intricacies of their movements but it just doesn't move me. Ice dance should be a package of incredible music, movements and emotion. Their music tends to be bizarre, their movements flashy and their emotions self-contained. Just not the team I want to watch over and over.
This dance has never done anything for me. I will give them a pass today because they weren't 100 per cent, but it doesn't move across the ice. There's no flow. It's a series of poses. That's why I actually liked it better the first time I saw it, because of the novelty of some of the positions, and the fact that since it was the beginning of the season I could forgive the periodic awkwardness and slowness. I hate the music, much like I dislike their SP music. Their vehicles this season aren't my cup of tea.

I only watched the event in passing while doing other things, but surprising results and I'm wondering if there was illness impacting most teams and/or just nerves. Congrats to the medalists and particularly B/S for grabbing the bronze! Sorry to see the Browns wind up in 7th, not what they were hoping for.

I hope C/B withdraw from 4CCs and recover for Worlds. The last thing I'd want to do while having the flu is having to fly many hours to China. I've flown sick on just a 2-3 hour flight in my life and it was torture.

Congratulations to Carreira & Ponomarenko who skated incredibly well and Bratti & Somerville who were also very impressive. Thank you judges for calling it as it was skated. Hope everyone sick gets well soon and that the healthy stay that way.
see you tomorrow for men…

Absolutely. C/P deserved to win the free dance, and I'm glad they did. And congrats to C/B on another title. Well deserved, because while today had its difficulties, that RD was out of this world.

Poor Evan looked like he felt gawd-awful.

Interesting that Evan let it slip out "if this is our last Nationals" maybe that's why they skated sick Evan is almost 35 i think he's about to hang it up but Madison might think differently and he will do what she wants.

For the past couple of seasons, they've been playing it year by year, so him saying that doesn't surprise me. I'm sure knowing that they don't have a lot of National performances in their future probably played a role in their decision to skate.

Evan was very ill. He toughed it out but you could hear him making sounds and straining a bit while skating and he looked flushed in the KnC.

I heard him say ….”that was terrible” at one point. I hope he feels better soon.

The three top teams really rose to the occasion despite illness, nerves and expectations. I'm glad Madi and Evan decided to skate and I hope they just go to Worlds and forget 4CC but who knows.
I thought Christine and Anthony were so solid and I like this program for them. I'm hoping this is the springboard they need for international prowess.

So happy for Ian and Emily. I think they are on their way.

Parsons and Green, Pate and Bye were unfortunate. They probably never make those mistakes in a hundred practices.

I think the US is solid in ID at the Olympic mid-terms.

Yeah I flew 14 hours from Asia to NYC (with a plane switch) with denge fever and it was not fun. I was checked into the hospital for a five-day stay two days later. It is amazing what we can do despite but certainly under those conditions nothing is near optimal.

I hope they give themselves time to recover from illness. Good thing he could hold it down while skating because if it's a flu, his stomach could have been a problem out there. Madi didn't look so great either in the K & C. All they probably wanted at that point was warm shower and a comfy bed.

So glad C/B made it through their FD safely. It wasn't their best but considering that they were both ill...it was amazing that they could do it. I was amazed that two of Charlie White's teams skated to, IMO, such dismal music: Wolfkostin/Tsareski (Tanquera & Invierno) and Green/Parsons (Denmark by Portland Cello Project), since Davis & White always came to competitions with creative, lively, beautiful and audience-pleasing programs. Re: Carriere/Ponomarenko...do his parents attend these competitions? They're always mentioned (as 1992 Olympic Gold Medalists).

One thing for sure the path to the podium at US Nationals is not directly upwards. C/P were up and down in the standings for several years, and it looks like G/P; Z/K; the Browns , heck all of them are going to have their little problems and misses. I'm not going to discount any US team now, and if there's still a small chance H/B return, that could change the US rankings really quickly.
