Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

It's also unbelievable that clean athletes who abided by the rules in place, have had to wait for two long years without being awarded the medals they fought so hard for. They are still wondering when they will receive their medals. Their elusive moment of shared victory on the 2022 Olympic podium, in the flush of triumph, is lost forever.
Not just that. Think of all the Russians athlets who had to accept that it is okay to dope...if you are Valieva. And had to compete and support her, despite being cheated by her, because they were literally locked in and not allowed to leave the country. Disgusting.

That's really a question and partially at the feet of the Swedish lab that didn't process the test in a timely manner. While it doesn't excuse the doping, had they appropriately handled the test and communicating the results Valieva would have never been at Beijing.

Hopefully that lab error in processing/notification was addressed by WADA to the facility

They were within TAT. Russians didn't pay to rush samples. They got what they paid for, results processed on time and in a queue. It's not the lab's responsibility to babyseat their clients. The clients should be aware of TAT.

And for 2 years after the result was known, RusFed made no effort to root out the cheaters, instead they glorified them and forced the rest of the athlets to just...shut up and skate.

Yea thats why she gets banned from competing not get banned from her entire life because neither were they

Hmm, what came first though, the chicken or the egg? 🤔

The choice to dope in the first place came way before it came down to lab testing, and fingerpointing about 'lab error.' A whole slew of faulty errors are involved in this sad trajectory of events.

That's the whole point--she is not and was not supposed to skate. Period.
Yea next time someone cheats in a piano competition, we'll ban them from competing but also come smash their piano in their house and cut their hand off just to make sure. Theyre arent supposed to play PERIOD.

@TontoK, a fair-minded Russian journalist, Maya Bagriantseva, who lives in the U.S., but still has Russian affections and affiliations, has stated that Russian officials were aware of issues with doping test results for Valieva. This is why even Bagriantseva questions Rusfed's decision to include Valieva in the team event.
Of course. In Russia there is a special law: as soon as a sports official receives any information or makes any decision, he must immediately inform Maya Bagriantseva about it, and in all details.

She can skate on the frozen swamp, like that girl who lives in a tiny town in Siberia (and was cheerful about it, making into Nationals), so nobody takes away Valieva's 'piano'. Just because RusFed thought the rules don't apply to them, doesn't mean rules don't exist. Cheating is a grievous offense, and the penalty is proportionate. Cheaters must not prosper.

The coaching committee that selected and signed off on the team for team event.
Frankly, they don't seem trustworthy at all. Obviously, wrong decisions were made. It's easy for them to say they were not in possession of all the facts regarding waiting on doping test results for Valieva. That seems highly unlikely.

The entire life of a 17-years-old girl is resumed to figure skating? No school, no universities, no education, no friends, no hobbies, just figure skating? Well, if so, then that's a really tragic case.
Um yes they literally barely do school, all of their schooling is done at the skating academy, they even get degrees in sport education and guess which sport she focused on on her studies, her friends are all at the skating academy and professional athletes dont have "hobbies" or they wouldnt be the best. So good job, you deduced that it really is a tragic case.

I agree entirely. In fact I think maybe we should just lynch her, which do you think: crucifixion, burned at the stake or hanging? Or is this too merciful, maybe she should be placed in a prison for life with a pair of skates hanging before her eyes and old videos of her programs playing. I mean, after all, she is cheater cheater pumpkin eater 😳😳😳😳😳 do not let her prosper. PERIOD.

They are the only ones who were making decisions and were privy to what happened. I would believe their testimonies in respect to what data they had on the table. Journalist wasn't there, period.

No, I think that her penalty was fine and appropriate. It is exactly as outlined in the guidelines and documentation. Where the penalties should go further, is in holding to account all those who enabled the cheating, covered up for the cheaters and abused the rest of the Russian skaters for 2 years instead of supporting justice and truth, as well as clean sport.

Indeed, her penalty of being banned from life was appropriate I agree. And clean sport does not exist so keep dreaming.

Literally no one (else) is suggesting that Valieva be crucified, hung, burned at the stake, or imprisoned for the rest of her life. That’s just completely ridiculous and absurd.

But there are rules, and she has to follow them.
