Questions
1. How will the new ISU Rules affect US men?
2. Will Ilia repeat as World Champion?
3. What will Jason skate to? Will he skate both his GP assignments?
4. Can our cacti be less prickly than in previous years?

I definitely think that Ilia can repeat as World champion. For sure, that will be one of the goals he will be working toward in the coming season. But it is also certain that Yuma Kagiyama and Adam Siao Him Fa will challenge him, along with other top-flight men.

I don't know all of the ISU new rules for men or singles, so I can't speak on that. I think Jason will compete at both of his assigned GPs. His focus is different this season as a result of what he learned last season. Still, he will surely be pacing himself wisely over the course of the season. I'm excited to see what his new programs will be. I was thinking the other day, wouldn't it be cool if David Wilson and Sandra Bezic collaborated on choreographing one of JB's programs. And then, Rohene can ace the other! 🤩

I'm not a cacti expert. 🤔😉🌵

Does anyone know where to find the smaller US competitions this season? I saw that Lucas Broussard competed at an event called Ice Fest and Alexander Fegan competed somewhere as well, and so I just wanted to know if there is somewhere that has a list of these kinds of competitions.

It's really not easy for fans.

You can find a list of events by going to https://www.usfigureskating.org/skate/compete and looking for upcoming events that are "Singles". But then you have to follow the links to the individual skating clubs where you have to scour for the competition and hope that they have the link back to the results.

Being a USFS member, it's barely any easier, but if you are you can sign into EMS (Event Management System) and also search for competitions. In there though, you can learn the competition ID and use that id as in the following URL template:

Replacing the 00000 with the 5-digit competition id.

It's really a lot of work, because you have to follow the registration links to find out which events have higher level skaters versus just the more casual Excel, Learn To Skate, and Adult competitors. You can ignore all events that are less than three days.

Here is my personal list of compiled events I'm keeping an eye on for the next week or so. I'm not sure if all of these have Jr/Sr Men events, they're just the competitions I haven't ruled out entirely yet. I know for certain the first two events have male ISP skaters and assume Broadmoor will as well. I don't know much about the 3rd and 4th competitions in this list.

Chesapeake Open (MD) [No ISP Men - WD]
Lake Placid Figure Skating Championships (NY)
Arizona Ice Classic (AZ) [No ISP Men]
CCIA Competition (CA) [No ISP Men]
Broadmoor Open (CO)
Dogwood Open (NC) [No ISP Men]

Another tip, use the following query in Google:

+"Skater Name" +"2024" site:ijs.usfigureskating.org

Use the skater's name as it appears in all of their results, generally "FirstName LastName". If they went to nationals, you'll see those in the results. Otherwise it'll be entirely 2024 results including these small preseason competitions. So long as the results page has been linked somewhere (usually by the club), then Google should have the page crawled in short order. USFS makes these pages live generally about 48 hours before the start of competition, and as long as someone somewhere has linked to the results page you should be able to see short-notice of upcoming events of any skater of interest.

I suppose you could use those query rules to set up a Google alert and receive an email automatically whenever a skater of interest is about to compete.

Thank you very much! I pretty much just wanna find any US comps for any disciplines, so this really helps out. Many thanks!
:thank:

Thank you. Welcome to Golden Skate, post often.

For some reason, I hadn't actually thought about searching by discipline.

These google queries should be equally useful (for this Men's forum thread):
+"Junior Men" +"2024" -"Prevagen" +"Sort by" site:ijs.usfigureskating.org
+"Senior Men" +"2024" -"Prevagen" +"Sort by" site:ijs.usfigureskating.org

Adding the "Sort by" ensures you just get the root competition page for each event.

Thank you for all your work @Kevin Uxbridge !

Hopefully you are less vengeful (and have less reason to be) than the original Uxbridge. One of the better ST:TNG episodes. ;)

It's Lake Placid; we are lucky to have a website with results and not photos of results on blue paper, taped to the rink wall.

I would be shocked beyond belief if there were a Livestream.

It's 2024, the barrier to entry couldn't be lower for these rinks. A decent cell phone and a good WiFi signal can get the job done well enough for fans to watch. Get a camera with a middling zoom lens on a tripod, combine that with a laptop running OBS and someone that isn't too zoom/pan happy, and it could be mistaken for a professional.

I don't know why the organizers don't do it.
It depends a lot on the rink, and some skating clubs are just renting ice time. Setting up the IJS equipment can already be a challenge. I'm in the LOC of a competition in VA that was done early this month, and doing a live stream was not one of the items we even planned on. But definitely something to consider.
