Plushenko's Return | Golden Skate

Plushenko's Return

I for one don't know what to make of this. As far as I'm concerned, as good as he has been, I'm not sure if a comeback is possible considering how long it's been since he's competed. Coupled with what has happened within the sport in that time, I guess only time will tell if it will truly happen and what the results for him will be should he actually do so. He has been great in the past. Can he rise above good again?

Also I've always felt it unfair to those who've been working so hard in the interim to be ousted by someone who, through his/her own choice, has opted NOT to compete and then turns around and decides to jump back in.

Course who ever said life is fair?

as long as he wins his spot on the team and it's not handed to him, then I don't have a problem with his returning.

He and Mishin have been saying for months that the plan is for him to make his comeback at Russian Nationals, in order to go to Euros and Worlds this year. We'll see what happens.

I always have thought that Evgeni should come back to competing, because although he's recognised as one of the greatest skaters technicaly speaking, he isn't really seen as an artist. IMO, Evegni only became artisticly great in the 03/04 season. Moreover, his 06 olympic peformance is remembered for being great technicaly, but lacking in artistry. Evgeni needs to come back for his legacy.

I am a bit disappointed with this program. It's ok, but I was expecting something better.

I agree with this. I really liked the first minute of the program, but after that it all seemed rather "samey". I think he's got his work cut out to be really competitive technically after two years away. If he can be, it will surprise me and probably a lot of others too. But if he can do it, then good luck to him.

Plushenko program

at least he seems to be controlling his arms better-lol. Not a great program but good luck.

This is his "new program" for thin season

Evgeni is, and has been an audience pleaser with his style of mannerisms. His pauses throughout the program are also part of his style with the audience. There is nothing new with pleasing the audience, and not difficult for him to get back into that mould.

He's been away from competitive skating for quite a while, and it shows that the triples must be worked on seriously, even the 3T which he doubled in that clip along with all his jumps. The spins are as poor as they always were, and I do not see any improvement in them for the future. Emphasizing the footwork to the beat of the music is still his most formidable feature to his skating.

I have no problem with his returning to competitive skating but Russia has now an up and coming stable of very talented young male skaters, and I would hate to see him push one of them off the podium. And he will! Unfortunately!

Here we go again!! It's about that time of the year that someone starts the thread that Plushenko is coming back. As I say everytime I see this tread...I will believe it when I see it. (and trust me I am not holding my breath on this one!!)

Anxiously waiting! With Buttle has retired, Lambiel injured (ressumed training), weir's programs' choreograper is Nina Petrenko, ... this season is a bit depressing.

His program started to look like all the rest of his so I stopped watching near the end. Im sure "if" he shows up at Nationals he will get a spot. Since 1996 Russian men have been on the podium every year til Plushenko left in 2004. Two spot on the podium in 98, 99 & 01. At the last 4 Worlds Russian men havent been on the podium. I cant see how they would keep him off the podium. :p More than likely it will be handed to him on a silver platter. Thats like if Irina Slutskya(Im not saying she is though) were to come back for some reason(although I seriously doubt she would) she'd easily get a spot as well. Even if they dont perform top notch at Nationals, they have the track record and name to get them far internationally. Plus with the drought of top Russian skaters in Men and Women, the Federation would almost be foolish not to give them a spot on the World team. Although at this point its JUST Plushenko and NOT Slutskya

Speaking of Irina I had heard awhile ago that she had a song out, did anyone ever get to hear it??

I just hope Andrei Griazev gets a spot. I reeeally like him.

I want to know when :love:Alexander Abt:love: is coming back

Is it just speculation that he is coming back or was their an official announcement that I missed? If he does come back and he plans on using this program (which I like) but IMO is not very competitive. It is more like a show program.

For the last 3 years we have been told one thing, then another concerning PLushenko's "comeback." Personally I think he will be in no shape to skate competitively in 2010 (although the Men's field has not gained that much difficultly compared to the ladies). Just when nobody is talking about him anymore he out pops another article like this. To me it is just his publisist making sure nobody forgets his name so he can still headline all the big shows.

= I don't think it fair to the skaters that have been practing hard and want to go to the olympcs = for him to want to come back in the mix = he should just stay doing what he is doing now. Watching the clips on u tube- I think he has lost a lot of he pa -zaz -

IMO he didn't really have any pazaz to begin with. I think he should move on, he already has his world and olympic gold medal. It's time to give others a chance.

If he gets his jumps back which he probably can, (he is not that old and all the men are kind of beat up to a certain extent) he becomes an experienced and fierce competitor. Those who can skate clean usually do well. The quad seems to allude so many men in comp and I generally think it separates the men from the boys. He used to have a consistent quad. Watch out???!!!

So many ifs and yes if but don't forget Verner, Takahashi, Joubert, Lambiel, who have executed quads in several competitions. And then think about Buttle who became a World Champion without one.

Plushenko didn't do one in that youtube exhibition. He didn't even do a triple. Shall we mention the spins - they also get points.

I'm ok with him coming back, if that's what he wants, but I'd like to see other Russian men get into the fray.

He did TWO triple toes in that video, and the first was a triple-double-double combination. Don't forget he was skating under a spotlight, which is extremely difficult. The fact that he did an easy-looking triple axel under the spotlight tells me he's going to have no trouble pulling out a quad toe by the time he needs it for competition. I just think he needs to beef up the spins a little. I'm guessing he will. And although he's not my favorite skater, if he goes to Russian nationals and wins a spot on the team, then he should absolutely compete at Worlds.
