Am I overbooted?

Hey everyone, I’m new here and looking for some advice. I think I may have been overbooted. I’m an adult woman, 5’7”, 175 lbs, and currently working on singles (learning flip right now).

I went in asking for the RF3 Pros and thought that’s what I was buying, but I ended up with the Royal Elites. The fitter told me they were similar, just slightly different, after I had already tried them on. I’m not super knowledgeable about figure skates and I trusted her since she fitted me before (for my Jackson Freestyles which I liked).

On my feet, they feel good and I can bend fine, and I was okay with paying a bit extra. But now after doing some more research, they seem like way too much for my current level. I called the fitter about this concern and she said she fits a lot of adults going from freestyles to ice flys (similar stiffness rating I guess). Honestly I'm worried she was trying to get rid of extra stock...

The skates haven’t been mounted yet, but they have been heat-moulded. I’m nervous about whether I'm going to be able to return them if they’re not right. Do you think these skates should be fine, or should I try to push to return them?

Given your weight and that you want to jump, I would say keep the Elites.

They will last you longer and will surely give you enough support while jumping.

It is a lot of boot for sure for everything else, but the RF3 Pro would also be little on the softer side for you for jumping. Still completely fine for singles, especially for beginners that don't jump that high anyway, but still.

Although, you're also probably right that the fitter was using you to get rid of old stock. I hope you got a good deal on those at least.

Hello, welcome! With your height and weight stats, you're fine in the elites, it's what I would have suggested, especially since you'll be jumping.

I’m basically the same height and weight stats as you and working on flip as well. I bought royal pros in May and feel like they stopped supporting me in less than 6 months. How are the Royal Elites treating you?
Edit to add: I recently switched to Ice Flys and feel like I can actually lean into my edges again. It doesn’t seem like you were led astray!

They're great—definitely not led astray! One of the best investments I've ever made
