Contesti's competitive history was a bit unlucky and same for his relationship with the french federation, too. I think he will have a better time with the italian one and he's training well in Courmayer.

Carolina's program ,apart from the falls which indicates she's not yet at the highest level of her training (which is so typically Carolina), is indeed very,very good. Transitions are better, step sequence is amazing, the whole theme , music and costume are making her looking more like a beautiful, mature, woman.

Riders on the storm was a masterpiece for me,especially because that was something never seen/listened before, but this SP is going to be very good, too.

My problem with Carolina is her negative GOE. She was pretty awful to watch at worlds last year, in the FP! EVery jump was a struggle and negative GOE but she still managed to rack up those points. I'm still waiting for the day when negative GOE of more than 10 gains a 5 point deduction (or so)!

That doesn't make it lovely to watch. I'd rather see the skaters get poiints for execution. Full rotation is important, but if a skater doesn't execute them well they shouldn't get top scores.

Not to be snarky, but I don't need to be educated on the code of points, thanks all the same. My point was clear, when a program is littered with negative GOE- it clearly implies that the skater is attempting a program that is too difficult for them. Kostner's free programs were consistently over 105 points last year despite the fact that she rarely landed one clean jump. Kudos for rotating, kudos for playing the COP game but as a spectator, it is disappointing to see what is essentially a flawed, messy, "bad" skate (by 6.0 standards) out score a program like Nakano's pristine FP (because the latter skater had very slight UR's). Therefore, I think there needs to be a max negative GOE line. if someone accumulates more than -8 points in negative Goe in their free they should get a further deduction for having a program that is obviously too difficult for them.

I think Kostner is immensely talented and her 2007 worlds SP and 2004 Euro LP are two of the best technical skates I have ever witnessed. I hope she goes clean this year and scores a deserving 120 plus making this whole post a moot point!

On Topic. With Lambiel and Buttle out- I'm already crowning Oda as the 2009 World Champion. I guess we'll see!

Samuel Contesti is a 25 year old ice skater... he trains in Courmayeur with his wife and he is very good in training. Sometimes he makes mistakes in competition because he is not used to compeete...(he isn't compeeting since 2005)...but I can confirm to you that he can do every jump you can immagin...ehehe ..sorry I m not good in english..
I like samuel because it doesn't think to be "god" ...he is very funny!!

Contesti is the old guy who never got a real chance in France and now is competing for Italy, isn't he? The German commentators mentioned him when Zelenka did his freeskate at Worlds, they said that this was probably Zelenka's last big international competition because Contesti has a fairly reliable triple Axel.



:chorus: The guy is totally the Euro-version of Lysacek. Come on, lanky, tall, lack of extension, long fast-moving arms and sometimes awkward jumps. It's just too funny. But Lysacek has better spins and is somehow faster, more fluid over the ice. But anyway, this guy could be good for Top Ten at Euros.

That's his free from the Championships, with one pretty good 3A-3T.

Sorry but this is not the italian championship...it is just a competition you have to do before for qualify for italian championship...

Yes, I agree it is a beautifully choreographed program and she looks stunning in that black costume.

I'd like to know what happened to Silna/Matsjuk which led them to withdraw. I have grown to like this team for the past couple of years and I was hoping they would contend for a medal in the country they represent.

There was a small remark in an austrian newspaper about Matsjuk having a knee injury and that that's the reason for their withdrawal (don't know how bad it is or if it's true though, I've read nothing official anywhere).

I also heard that the US team, Kriengkrairut/Giulietti-Schmitt struggled in FD sue to her ankle injury. She was icing and taping her ankle throughout the competition. She is on ankle cast and wheel chair today, her coach did not want her to walk. Luckily that they pulled through

Congrats to the US, maxwell/Traxler for their braonze. I think they won by .30

Lucie/Matej did a wonderful job, they improved so much. I watched them in the last couple years since their World Juniors two years ago
Mallory/Rand also did well, they lifts were awesome. She is very flexible and artistic, however, they seem to have different skating style. I'm sure Igor will fix them.

Samuel Contesti used to skate for France and now skates for Italy.

Some clarification about his case:

In 2005 He made the international team finished 9th at Euros and 26th at worlds.

The during the 2005-2006 season, he finished 2nd of The Masters, finished 5th at TEB (so behind Joubert who was 2nd but in front of Dambier, the other french) and 2nd at French Nationals (even beating Joubert in the free) where Preaubert was 3rd and Dambier 4th.
BUT The French Fed (FFSG) decided not to send him to any international competitions and decided to sent Dambier and Preaubert instead.
Actually the rule at that time was to send the ones that had the highests scores at Internationals and national competiton. (You had to add the two highest score of the skater) which led to Joubert with 426.8, Dambier with 392.91 then Préaubert with 391.03 and Contesti with 390.18.

Contesti felt he was robbed: for him scores don't prove anything, they can be inflated because it's different judges. So for him, only scores at a same competition can be compared: He did beat Dambier at every single competition he went against him (Masters, TEB and Nationals)
So the FFSG decided to organize a "test" in december. They made Dambier, Contesti and Preaubert skate in front of a judging panel to determine who was going to make the international team. (Joubert was not there because there was no question they were not going to send him ). So they did it even if Dambier and Preaubert were reluctant. Contesti won it over Preaubert and Dambier finished 3rd. So then the international team was Joubert, Contesti, Preaubert.
But Dambier went to court and won the case who concluded that the FFSG had no right to organize a test and had to select their skaters by following the rule that's on place which was to add the two highest scores of the skaters.
So they couldn't do anything and Joubert, Dambier and Preaubert went to Euros. Joubert finished 3rd and Dambier 4th. So they both went to the Olympic Games.

THEN (no it's not finish yet ) He was injuried at the beginning of the 2006-2007 season and withdrew from the Masters. He was assigned to Skate America but he learned that the FFSG did not wanted to send him. Being injuried anyway, He didn't skate there and started the season at Nationals. Joubert won and Contesti finished 3rd behind him and Ponsero. (Preaubert was a little injuried and decided to concentrate on the GPF). So Contesti knew he did not have any chance of making the European or World Team so He asked the FFSG to let him skate for Monaco. They refused to release him.

In june 2007 he married Géraldine Zulini. Because of the Italian roots of his wife, the FFSG let him skate for Italy. So did the Italian Federation. He won Italian Nationals this year in front of Karel Zelenka but couldn't go to Euros or Worlds because He was living in Italy for less than a year.
