2024-25 Grand Prix Final: Info and pre-game chat

My preferred way of destressing during a skating competition is by moving to an open seat in a row further away from the ice! Somehow distancing myself physically distances myself mentally too. If I can't do that, then I try to breathe. 😅
When I was at Nebelhorn, I joked with some friends that I don't get as emotionally involved as they did. And then the Pairs event happened 🤣🤣 I can watch the SP next Thursday, but during the FS on Friday I will be at another event, so the first thing I'll do when I get out of there is probably looking for the results. Then I can watch the competition with less stress :D

It was a bit hard to choose, but these are my top three. I just started watching current figure skating competitions, so I liked a lot of programs.

TOP 3

1. Mone's SP in China: this program is really fun to watch, and I was enchanted once again when I last watched Mone in China. Her exit at the end of the 2A with that edge is magnificent and I couldn't get my eyes off the screen. I loved the choreography, and she is the true representation of a skater who masters skating skills. Also, Last Dance was the perfect choice for Mone this season.

2. Rino's LP in Canada: her edge work is even more astounding, and the step sequence is gorgeous, I enjoyed watching this program so much. I wish she was a bit more consistent with her SP so she could place higher. Rino's spins are also beautifully extended and fast, she's such an elegant skater and I love that they displayed that part of her on the ice. Rooting to see Rino in Worlds!

3. Hana's LP in Finland: I also liked her SP, but the free skate was memorable. The music was the first thing that got to me, I love that song, and Hana skated it so well. I was surprised she had attempted a 3A, but I saw how she landed it at the end of the warm-up. I hope she can land it very soon and fulfill her goals. Hana has a unique style, so I don't get bored watching her and her spins are also incredible. I am SO looking forward to watching Hana on the GPF!

Honorable mention:
4. Lara's LP in Finland: I liked how she skated during her SP, but the music didn't convince me. Her free skate was amazing, her jumps were high, and her extended arms highlighted her figure and strength. Lara managed to connect well with the music and give us another program to be excited about. She looked so elegant and stylish, I am waiting to see her again in Europeans.

Woohoo FFSG answered my email :D I can take photos :D and regarding stuff that can be brought in, they said the following:
Les objets non autorisés et les tailles de sac seront publiés sur notre site et nos réseaux sociaux en début de semaine prochaine.
So we will know more next week I guess :D

I really just have one. Kaori's FS at NHK. What a skate. If she skates like that at Worlds, it's over for everyone.

Good idea but I just cant. I am like a moth to a flame. I sit there with PaulE in the front row at 4 Conts 2023 and I am watching Hae-in's FS and I cant breath. I can't imagine what a coach goes through. Only I am like that for 3-4 skaters....no wonder I have to take Blood pressure meds..:palmf:
Then there is knowing that if Yel-im makes just one mistake, she drops to silver and there are tears of joy and pain....I am a wreck....
The thrill of victory, the agony of da feet.

Maybe I need another sport?

BTW, the Johnny and Tara show is devoting a whole 90 min. to the GP final. I am not sure if this is a comment on what NBC thinks about figure skating as a sport or what American society thinks about skating as a sport. ......I suspect it is more the latter.... :(
I want all you skaters out there to know that I APPRECIATE YOU and wouldnt travel one foot to watch a ball game..... nor get excited about one.

I am really up for this event. I was watching some of Kaori's past skates....The 2022 GPF FS :frown:, but there are some on youtube when she was 16...boy am I old....I love this one. JGP Yokohama. 2016. FS. Packed house. Kaori is 16 years old. New personal best, new overall best. Japan sweeps the podium...as Ted says...tears of joy behind those hands....

Now, watch her at 14 years old.

Anyone know why Peacock in the U.S. doesn’t have the men’s short program? I saved all the other events to my list but there is no choice for the men’s short. All the other events , including the exhibition skate, are there as upcoming events, except the men’s short.

I am wondering the same thing. Just checked this afternoon and it is still missing.

Mikhail is first on the replacement list and he has posted about it on instagram already so I guess he's in 😁
Brilliant news, I was listening to a podcast this week where it was pointed out that his scores were higher than Daniel Grassl. Hopefully he will give Ilia a run for his money.

Wow, I've never seen Kaori as a junior. She's come a long way! And she was so adorable even at 16 years old.

You know...you were first person I've thought about seeing the WD news. I'm sorry :( plus I hope it's more of a precaution than something really serious...
:-) I hope so too, but so far I know nothing...I was talking to someone online who also chats with Deanna from time to time and she already said that she had a feeling something was a bit off, so I'm only half surprised but of course 100% sad 😢

I hope it isn't serious. THat is really disappointing as Canada has so few entries. Did they say what theillness is Illness can vary. I remember eharing Piper Gilles was sick and it was cancer. Speedy recovery.

I don't think it's that bad. It's just really badly timed (but then again, when is illness ever not badly timed?)
