54th Volvo Open Cup | Jan 16-19

Day 1 of the Volvo Open Cup consists of a Junior double-bill, followed by a Senior double-bill. The two Men's segments sandwiched by the two Ladies segments.

I probably won't be able to post much today, as the computer is seriously misbehaving (It took me 15 minutes to get this post made out! All I can say is thank goodness the stream is not being affected!) But, all the links you need are in the OP.

Really enjoyed that programme from the first of @norwegianfairytale's compatriots, Therese HAVAG (NOR).

She goes into 2nd position.

And we don't have to wait long for the second Norwegian, Elea RUSTGAARD (NOR). She is on straight after Leilah PATTEN (GBR), who is coming on now.

Unfortunately, Leilah had a few issues during her programme. Including a fall on the Double Axel.

You know, this must be the first time I've seen a close up shot of Leilah. Because I never noticed before just how young she looks. (Makes sense - she is young! She doesn't turn 14 until the end of March)

She looks disappointed.

She goes into 2nd position.

And like compatriot Therese a couple of skaters earlier, Elea RUSTGAARD (NOR) had a beautiful programme to finish off the opening group.

Unfortunately, the Group 2 skaters were called to do their Warm-Up as soon as the final skater of Group 1 came off the ice. So, we missed the first half of the Warm-Up while Elea RUSTGAARD (NOR) was getting her scores.

And then, because it is so long since I last saw Vasilisa, it took me a while to work out which skater was her. But, when I did, it was easy to keep track of her. She was the tiny girl zooming across the ice at a rate of knotts!

Most of the time we saw her, she was either crossing the shot right in front of the camera, or else lining up a jump, which she presumably did out of camera shot.

However, at the very end of the Warm-Up, she did 2 jumps in camera shot when she was coming off the ice. But, they weren't full-blown jumps.

Oh no. The first skater of Group 2, Sofiia HRYHORENKO (UKR), has stopped during her programme.

She was wearing a white vest with a black skirt. The skirt was tied together like an apron, and the strings came apart. And she immediately signalled that she wanted to stop.

After she stopped, she bent over double. So perhaps it is more than a costume issue.

She then went over to talk to the officials for a long time. And the music played on the whole time.

Now she's coming off the ice, tying the strings at the same time. But it looks like she isn't coming back.

Yep, the next skater has come out, and is warming up.

Beautiful Double Axel to start with.

I think the second element was supposed to be a combination, but she had an awful landing on the first part (the Double Lutz), and so couldn't attach anything.

Flying Camel Spin she did next was lovely, though.

Ach, fall on Triple Flip.

Not sure if the next spin was an element gone wrong or just choreography.

The Change Foot Combination Spin and the Layback Spin at the end were beautiful.

She looks disappointed waiting for her scores.

But, she goes into the lead.

Mmmm. We missed a big chunk of the Group 3 Warm-Up too, but this time because they were still showing adverts.

We come back from the resurfacing to see Ariadna GUPTA ESPADA (ESP) skating to possibly the most Spanish music you can think of, "Malagueña".

She goes into 3rd position.

Oh, this is going to be interesting. The first two Lithuanians going back to back.

Agnė IVANOVAITĖ now, and then Gabrielė JUŠKAITĖ.

And now that I notice, the other two (Evelina STAVICKYTĖ and Milana SINIAVSKYTĖ) are both in Group 5, with only one skater in between them.

OK. Both of the Lithuanian girls are wearing all black. The difference is that Agnė IVANOVAITĖ was wearing a dress, while Gabrielė JUŠKAITĖ was wearing a jumpsuit.

They are from different teams, so Agnė was not sitting on her own (Agnė does have a team-mate here, Evelina STAVICKYTĖ, but she is not skating until Group 5).

Agnė went into 4th position, and was immediately pushed down to 5th when Gabrielė took over 4th position. They are separated by 3.29 points.

Mmmmm. I am sure that Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein are spinning in their graves listening to the version of "My Favourite Things" that Venla SINISALO (FIN) was skating to.

It was awful!

However, the skating wasn't.

New leader.

So, my kid, Vasilisa BOGOMOLOVA (CYP), is now in a Finnish sandwich, as Meea MÄNNIKKO is in 3rd position.

Which is kinda appropriate, as I am currently making sandwiches!

"I Dream Of Jeanie"!!!

I had been waiting for years for it to be repeated, and I was delighted when one of the TV channels started showing it from the start on Tuesday. Mind you, I was disappointed as it meant they stopped showing "Bewitched", another programme which I had been waiting years to be repeated.

Right, I'll have to wind the stream back during the next resurfacing and re-watch the Warm-Up.
