Awarding points is always a flexible thing in ice dance—all of us here know that.

I’m proud of the Browns, they skated their hearts out in this comp, and they are unique talents.

And also—finishing ahead of Bratti/Somerville, last year’s bronze medalists, is pretty impressive.

their rendition is pretty standard and close to the opera. and like many operas from the 19C... they kill the woman. Sorry... i hate opera... so sexist.

My old mobility scooter was faster and more graceful than Chock and Bates' skating today, but good for them! Their marriage is much less troublesome than that of some of the other dance teams here.

nobody wants to fall, lots of teams were a bit cautious today with the points so close

Off-topic but isn't it crazy how one mistake in ice dance can be the difference between potentially winning the competition and falling off the podium

If this was judged fairly, they would lose this FD to C/P and to G/P, but I highly doubt that will happen.

I said it in the other events and at other Nationals - you don't dethrone a World or Grand Prix Champion at Nationals. Kinda like doing the work of another country for them.

Looking at the detailed protocol for C/B, this is really some unprecedented level of home cooking scoring. Their FD score would have likely been 15 points lower judged by an international panel.

I agree with you on this. Plenty of folks believe in keeping women in their place. When all the menfolk went off to fight world wars, the womenfolk had to become Rosie the Riveters and run things at home and learned they weren't helpless. When the men came home to this it was great at first and then some resented not being the Master and the war of the sexes began in the modern day just like in old times.

LOL, if Skate Canada had to do it all over again after this fiasco, that panel should have banded together and given Piper and Paul 146 instead of the 137 they awarded them for their clean FD.

I believe US Nationals is the only competition offering pewter medals to 4th place finishers, so there will be 4 spots on the podium. Usually 3 is the norm for all other competitions
