2025 U.S. Nationals Senior Men's Free Skate

Scores won't matter. It's a gift.
Scores do matter to the USFS because the third skater needs to make the FS. Given the PCS gap between Camden and Max internationally, it's easier for Camden to get into the FS even with a mistake than Max. There's no selection criteria in Max's favor.

By the way, I disagree with the notion that Ilya should cut back on the technical difficulty of his programs to try to avoid injury. As soon as you start thinking like that, that;s when injury strikes. Plan your skate, skate your plan. Take each element as it comes. Focus on technique technique, technique, no lapses of attention.

As for PCSs, Ilya's second mark scores will not go up by omitting a couple of quads in favor of working harder on presentation. One can always aspire to improve, but he's already got the audience in the palm of his hand anyway.

I didn't get to watch live but I'm absolutely thrilled for Andrew! So happy he was able to have a moment! :jumping:
Impressive athletic feat by Ilia. Sorry Max came up just short again, but good for Camden who must be on his 8th skating life by now.

I saw this post from you first and almost had a heart attack. I thought perhaps Andrew had gone to pieces.

Don’t scare me like that!!! I have already been in the hospital once this year
I would not have a nightmare if Andrew went to pieces. I’m up at the grocery store getting donuts to drown my sorrows in.

This would be a gift for Jason but I understand. At some point Jason if he doesn't add the quad may find himself on the short end of the stick. So far he has avoided that but the day may be coming. I find Jason clinging on for dear life - by next season if he doesn't solve his equipment issues orr egain the 3A solidlly he maybe looking at selling popcorn at the olympics.
As far as I know he isn’t training quads anymore. But I could be wrong.

if it's still the same rules, the third man would need to qualify for the LP.

You could have the top two men add up to 13 and that would give 3 spots for worlds... but for Olympics, the third man ALSO needs to be in the LP... if not, there is the last chance qualifier

but you know.. they change the rules all the time so i am not sure
Right…Vincent didn’t make the LP last time and had to go to Nebelhorn (I think).

That why I am the fence about just sending Jacob to Worlds. He can get 74 points with his junior short programs. I think I would trust him more at this point than Camden and Max. If we are going what we need for the spots for the Olympics from the top 2 why not use the last one for a skater who would gain so much experience. I think that they should keep the 3rd spot bank until 4CC's and Junior Worlds after those competitions look at where the skaters are and pick the strongest one to go because I am uncomfortable sending a skater who just manages to have a good competition at Nationals. I would like a bit more consistency than that at this point.
3rd man still has to make LP.

That’s crazy for it to be sold out. I never thought the rafters would sell out. They didn’t last time.
it was more or less sold out last year in montreal.
i bet boston 2016 or whatever year it was was sold out for women... Americans have always loved their women figure skaters.. not so much the men... but with a daredevil quadster doing new things all the time... and just before the Olympics (instead of after them) I can see why it could sell out.

Still means no post season and I believe 5th and 6th are the same envelope money.
I hope he does not retire. If Ilia medals at Olympics, a spot may open up for Worlds next year as most skip Worlds due to all the publicity and opportunity and from what I've seen his chances would still be good.

Ladies 2016 long program sold out. I was there for the short in the rafters.

i think most skaters at this point, are seeing the olympics as the target.

I know we are disappointed for Jimmy but he did half of what he needed to do... top 3 in SP.. if he does this next year and has a good LP, he could be at the games too... the olympic season is always a roller coaster .... Patrick disappeared for a while when he left Marina... his fans were so worried.... it took Ravi and some of his friends (future wife, Scott Moir) to convince him to compete at the games... and he ended up being crucial in Canada's victory in the team event... and now is Olympic champion...
now i don't think that US men 2 or 3 will participate in the team event... because Ilia is certainly the one to skate both programs but for these other men, being there is probably the dream anyway, not so much the result...

it will be fascinating to see next year's US nationals
