2024-25 Russian Grand Prix Final

Savosin is a decent skater, but there is nothing to remember about him. I forget from one comp to the next that he's even still skating.

What a bloodbath Vlad down in 4th Gleb still to come. I would still pick Vlad if he completely melt down in the free skate.

He's a young guy that international audiences, judges can't help but like. And he has the highest level of skating of all of them, has been the most consistent.

I know the odds are practically nill, but I'd be thrilled if Gleb got the nod. He's had a fantastic season this year. I really like the quiet way he skates. He is so not a Mishin style skater, yet he is.

It's going to be a very interesting free skate. Let the best skater win! I hope to see every one of the top 6 go for it.

It's going to be exciting tomorrow. It is set up nicely. Vlad came back from a worse short program at the Russian championships..

I'm likely going to have to watch on delay

Well, anything could happen tomorrow.

My early predictions for the Olympic spot is.

1. Semenenko. Clearly the Russian judges favourite. And Mishin has a good reputation internationally. But to me his jumps looks awkward and a lot of hard work. And his overall skating is dull as a table lamp imo.

2 Kondratiuk. Has already an European title and some international reputation. But he is a wild card and he can flop really hard.

3. Gumennik. I know @AlexBreeze thinks he has not enough international reputation, but Petr has improved and matured a lot these couple of seasons imo. And for me, he is the obvious artistic choice.

4. Dikidzhi. Is the one with the most technical potential. But he has no reputation internationally and it is hard to know where the international judges will put him.

5. Lutfullin. Another Mishin skater that reminds me a lot of Semenenko but I think Lutfullin is better. But there is no way RusFed would choose Lutfullin over Semenenko.

All other skaters are out of the equation.

I think Vlad goes with Semenenko as a reserve for the qualifier.

Even the Russian fed will look at Semenenko's jumps and know he will barely be getting positive GOE on them. Whereas Vlad was tight, the jumps were rough, but they were completed jumps. On a bad day, he rotated and landed everything. Semeneko would have got an underrotation on his 4T today in an international comp.

I think Vlad gets gold, Semenenko silver, Mark bronze. Probably helps Vlad skating 3rd in the last group as well.

Lots to change tomorrow I assume. Each of the first five has pros and cons for selection. I do not envy RusFed to make this decision. In other 3 disciplines the battle is for the sub spot, for men it is for the top spot.
I just realized, none of the top 5 has a "Russian last name" :-)

I don't know what that means. So everything that doesn't end with -ov is not Russian?
