Ryan's "choreography" was extremely cheesy and corny in my opinion. I cringed while watching it...

Perhaps. I found it very entertaining. I think it's the nature of the music, too - his choreography went well with that kind of Mexican salsa music.

Doesn't matter. He was still better than Patrick. That many errors in a program should result in a drop in the PCS. I'm glad to see that even Patrick admitted he was gifted.

I'm not at all sure why some are so bitter about Chan winning. He won due to a good short and a not totally screwed-up long that was stunning choreographically and in presentation. And almost everyone else made lots of mistakes too.

Chan rightfully did not finish ahead of Bradley or Sawyer in the LP (how bizarre that Sawyer won the long....). I LOVE his new programs though, they really put him with the elite group of skaters. Bradley's skate, while fun, was not at that level of sophistication.

I'll be interested to see the score sheets on Ponsero — I thought he still had a shot at possibly winning it, or at least placing on the podium. But he finished well back and I'm curious to see where he lost points.

Ryan did have some great jumps - awesome height on his triple axels!
I loved when Patrick's coach yelled out "We'll deserve it next time!" I thought that was very funny.

Ryan's skating skills are a little iffy... but he makes up for it with personality... he's out there to have fun, and you can tell. Yeah, it comes off as maybe not taking it seriously, but it seems to work for him so more power to him!

Are you trying to imply that the judges will overscore Joannie and Patrick just because they are from the host nation of 2010 olympics, and people will get used to them getting inflated scores by the time the Olympics come around, and it doesn't look as suspicious if they were getting inflated scores a season before the olympics? interesting. never thought about that.

Shawn Sawyer was the highlight of the event.
Patrick Chan can make mistakes and he still just flows over the ice and is so musical that leaves good impression any way.
Evan - his program is boring and I dont see much potential in it. And the last step sequence looked almost grotesque. He was throwing himself all over the place. Blah
Congratulations to Bradley, although he has to work hard on many elements. Being a showman might not be enough. But what a height in 3A! Wow!
Not impressed with Ponsero. Beside two nice step sequences his choreo was mediocre. Somehow French male skaters are not my cup of tea

On a shallow note - Evan's and Brandon's Mroz costumes would go so well together

I guess that's a matter of taste. I found his choreography and presentation far from stunning. The music didn't exactly float my boat, either. I'll reserve my opinion on his short as I haven't seen it. But I sure do hope his SP was so far ahead from everyone else's - at least that might serve to justify the win, although I highly doubt it.

I do. But it will be interesting to see whether their PCS can hold up at other GP stops or whether other federations will seek 'revenge'. You never know.

Personal taste aside, it is, objectively speaking, a packed and difficult program. I'm happy the judges agreed with me about the beauty of the skate. I hope to see it cleaner later in the season.

Back to the Competition

This was for me, the best musical competition I have ever seen.

Ten: Who'd a thunk it? Someone to watch!

Sawyer: Skating musically to Mozart is no easy matter. He didn't miss a beat. No Marozov arms, and did you miss them? Arguably the BEST!

Lysacek Yes indeed, and now I understand the high PCS.

Bradley Yeeaah. He's got the music down pat.

LPonsero Extremely musical even with a faulty routine.

I can not say the same about Voronov. He uses music for background. Music could throw him off his jumps.

Thinking about Lysacek, will 2 bronze get him into the Finals?

Is it? I'm not an expert on transitions and all that, so I won't comment on those. But Evan's program seems just as packed to me and I didn't notice him having any really significant resting spots. Was Patrick's PCS in the long higher than Evan's? I must admit I even thought Evan was better than Patrick artistically today.

Probably not unless the rest of the top guns win one gp and falter at another.
