Men's LP

Patrick's LP is SUBLIME. The way he skated to this music really moved me. Such depth of emotion and freedom. Those PCS were well deserved.

Hmm?

What about Evan’s PCS for both of his programs ?

Lol. Serves me right for not paying more attention to the men's discipline. You may be right. Still doesn't change the fact that scoring at both competitions was iffy, then.

I can't believe I'm sounding like such a big defender of the Americans when I'm not even one.

Is it? I'm not an expert on transitions and all that, so I won't comment on those. But Evan's program seems just as packed to me and I didn't notice him having any really significant resting spots. Was Patrick's PCS in the long higher than Evan's? I must admit I even thought Evan was better than Patrick artistically today.

I am not a big fan of Evan nor patrick but Patrick got nearly 7 points more on PCS than Evan in LP. That's just not right to my eyes. The most should be around 2-3 points for Patrick having great skating skills over Evan. I don't get it because Evan's LP was relatively clean, besides the URs and Patrick, on the other hand, fell, touched down and he completely messed the lutz up. I enjoyed Ponsero much more than Patrick.

Probably not unless the rest of the top guns win one gp and falter at another.
I won't be that sure. Evan has one thing working to his advantage - Kozuka, Chan and Bradley will all have their second assignment in Paris, where they face le maître and his very inconsistent, but sometimes brilliant complice. One of the three could well be knocked out of the GPF there.

Cyberswan and le maître will probably make it, Glitterswan only needs a third place finish behind Cyberswan and Oda at NHK. Makes three in the GPF. Verner, Abbott, Borudulin and Carriere are still to come. But will one of them have the consistency to place 2nd - 2nd, or 2nd - 3rd? So if none of these guys will make it and TEB will see one of Chan, Kozuka or Bradley in 4th or even 5th (if the complice has a good day) - Evan just might make it.

This is just a hypothesis: But did someone protest the scores? Because there are no detailed results, no protocols yet? Normally it only takes a few minutes to get them up!

It'll be fun to compare Patrick's well deserved PCS to the ones he'll receive in TEB if he skates like that again.

Wait, Arakawa's not only competing, but she's also man?
Seriously, I know one of the aforementioned swans is Takahashi. Who's the other?
If the result at TEB is like Joubert-Preaubert-Kozuka-Bradley-Chan, all of Kozuka, Bradley, and Chan rack up more points than Evan..

Do you count the Falls?

Do you count the Hi Tech?

Just enquiring. I prefer Chan but Evan was special that afteroon, and Ponsero, for me, is a better all round skater (as is Shawn). It's doubtful Ponsero will make it to the Finals but we can catch him at Euros. Praise to be for IceNetwork.

I really loved Chan's program, I even don't think anymore that he is just a Lambiel copy like I did last year (do you say "like" or "as" here? it's late! My English is slipping away from me!:frown:). But his Axel seems to be about as good as Lambiel's and Lysacek's combined. He still has time though, I tend to forget that he is just 17.

So Kozuka won SA, Chan SC, anyone ready to put your money on Borudulin or Carriere at CoC?

Cyberswan is Takahashi, Glitterswan is Johnny. Sorry, it's late here. The later it gets, the more childish I get...

Protocols!

I completely agree. But does Patrick really have it over Evan in terms of basic skating skills? As far as pure artistry goes, well, that's subjective. Aside from Evan's wonky technique on his triple axel, I can't think of any area in which he is terribly lacking. And someone else pointed out that Patrick seems to have similar technique to Evan on his triple axel.

Patrick's basic skating skills were not up to snuff today. He even tripped up on that transition into the lutz.

Yes, the falls do counts according to the judges otherwise it doesn't make sence on Alissa Czisny's PCS. Alissa gets high PCS only when she skates clean. How do you explain that then?

Hm... I'm not sure, English isn't my mother tongue. Who cares anyway.

Yeah... but no quad either. No quad, no clean 3A, no Lz.

Typical Buttle-like Canadian male skater coasting on 'artistry'? No wonder Buttle has to quit in a hurry after grabbing that gold medal. Just kidding.

Ouch. Evan got called on the second Axel and the Triple Loop (I actually thought that when I watched the jump). Plus negative GOE on the first Triple Axel and the Double Axel. That's one big "fix your tech"-scream from the tech panel. Plus they hammered him on the PCS. He got 6 points more than that at SA. But his shortprogram Axel got +1 GOE - many people said that it was downgraded, but it wasn't.

I am really sorry for Ponsero, but fact is that he barely landed 4 clean Triples, actually only three clean ones. You can't win with that. Chan had 5 clean Triples and only a minor deduction on the first Axel...

I actually think that if Chan shouldn't have won - Bradley should have won. Lysacek's technique is horrific sometimes and I think he really really needs to know that. Bradley landed 1 Quad and 7 Triples with only minor deductions. Under 6.0 I am quite sure that Bradley would have won.

I agree. Ryan brought his A game and imo received the wrong color medal..

(do you say "like" or "as" here?)
"As." Adverb introducing a clause. "Like" is a preposition introducing a phrase. "Do as I do." "He is like me."

Just my opinion, but I thought Chan was way, way, way ahead of Ponsero, Bradley, and Lysacek both in basic skating skills and in musicality. They all made enough mistakes to make it interesting, but with a clean skate Chan would have been out of reach of any of the others.

I think falls detract from a skaters Skating Skills, Transitions, Performance, Choreography and Interpretation. While sitting on your behind you are not demonstrating much in the way of skating skills, you are not doing any transitions, you are not thrilling the crowd, you are not doing your choreography or interpreting your music.

That's what I think, anyway. ;)

It's all on youtube already.
I watch Chan's 1Lz and wonder if the protocols were typed in advance.

How did Sawyer (no quad, no triple Axel) get a higher TECH score than Bradley with a clean quad and two clean triple Axels?
