Marriages of convenience are the new hot thing in figure skating. She's a little older than the typical age of 17-year-old ice dancing brides, but I bet those crazy kids can make it work!

I have had many dreams about Laurence coming back... and every time I was thinking about a partner, I couldn't find one that was as skilled as she is... or at least, remotely as skilled as she is...
I never thought about Guillaume because to me, he was retired... and not interested in competing again.

I read Laurence might have French relatives - grandparents in France? So that might make it easier
That kinda make sense with OG 2030 in Paris. I guess it means we can expect them to stay until then, and then probably retire after home Olympics. If they make it to Milano - i´m not sure they had time enough to be champions, but by 2030 they will probably win with ease.

It is quite possible... my ancestors came to Canada in the 1600s but she could have closer relatives... Both her names are very common in Quebec so it's hard to tell and I am not going to try to create her genealogy tree
I thought it would be for Paris games too... and of course, (almost) the whole country would want Guillaume to win gold at home.
But the article is talking about 2026... i don't know

Yes, I wished Laurence to come back and skate in a better partnership, because I always thought she was too talented to end her career like that. But I did not have this scenario in mind, I did not picture that Guillame would return either...
However, it also makes a lot of sense...

Not that they need to worry about what fans will think, but I think they have a better chance to be liked as a team if they don´t end up taking a Olympic spot in Milano that they didn´t "work" for. So I kinda hope 2026 isn´t a option because of citizenship will take time.

Because he and Gabby were already done, over with, finiti, before he and Lolo started trying out.
It agree with the comment upstream that this reminds me of Eric and Vanessa. Strictly on skating skills the commentary on Eric and Vanessa: how wonderful, how terrific, what great skaters, a match made in heaven.
Well, I guess a bronze (and not even a world shattering bronze) is cool, but I don't think it is what Eric and Vanessa expected. Ice is slippery. Although less so for ice dancers.

It's all they needed to do shows together... one medal.
I am happy for Laurence that
1) she has a partner
2) it will not be Canada
It may be better for her to skate for another country considering the circumstances, just like it was better for Vanessa to skate for Canada, where she was welcomed by most (except some of Meagan's fans)

I feel for Natacha LaGouge and Arnaud Caffa. I really like this team, and it seems like they were starting to surpass Marie Dupayage / Thomas Nabais. I was rooting for them to make it to the Olympics. But, of course Fournier-Beaudry / Cizeron have every right to pursue skating for France, if they choose.
I think it is more Loicia and Theo who are likely to miss out if this does happen for 2026.

Indeed... France, will most likely earn 2 spots... not 3... and then Lopareva-Brissaud would take one...
It's sort of hilarious as Lauriault-Le Gac lost traction as they would have become France number 1 when moving to Canada... but now, they could qualify for the games for Canada which they may not have been able to do for France after all...
Ice dance world is making me dizzy sometimes
Does she not have Danish citizenship? It is usually easier to get citizenship in an EU country if you are already a citizen of another EU one.

Interesting development. Of course I would like to know about whether she is still with Sorenson as a couple and I woud like to see them skate for Canada. Honestly, the current 3rd and 4th place Canadians have not done that well this year and are actually reversing. don't think they have time to go o the olympics. I would prefer maybe they went to anoher coach bu that's no happening. Not a huge fan of teams consantly switching naions but if tha's going to happen at least there is some logic to staying in Canada where they have been training and living for years.

No, and she wasn't going to get it. The fact that they qualified a spot for Denmark for the Olympics, but were unable to use it themselves, was the impetus behind them switching to Canada.
I feel like I'm being punked. I guess this is one of those Usova/Platov kind of partnerships that I'll just try to forget. It's not just that I hate change but when you were an all time duo like P/C, you never recreate the masterpiece with the second pairing. Even in the best scenario where Artur Dmitriev (I know different discipline) went on to win a second gold medal with Kozakova, it still never matched the magic he had with Mishkutionok.
ETA: I'm just glad Gabby looks happy and free. She went through a lot leading up to the Olympics.

But how could they get citizenship so quick especially her for France. Wouuldn't it be easier for him to get Canadian citizenship. Honestly I don' t think here is enough time to get citizenship or to develop themselves technically and artistically to challenge f for a top spot in Milan. But if they had the time and citizenship it wold mean Italy, Canada or the US might not be on the podium and things would get worse for he Brits, the current French champs and Lala.

Loicia and Theo missing out would be a shame as well. Thanks for the correction. I'm not sure why I was thinking that France would have three spots - maybe just hopeful LOL because I find a lot of the French ice dancers interesting.
I originally was puzzled about why Lauriault / Le Gac changed to Canada as well because like you I was thinking it would have been easier for them in France - until I read interviews where they explained their reasons. But yes, now they at least have a chance, although I think Fabbri / Ayer are moving ahead in that race.
