Laurence Fournier-Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron to skate together for France

On a different and (I hope) less contentious note, given the timing of the announcement (too late for anything major in 2024-25, but it's a looooong time till 2025-26) might they be looking to the show season in Europe and maybe in Japan? It would be something for their fans if so.

It's hard to focus on the new partnership when the new partnership made a big deal that them coming together is some sort of destiny as friends who cross paths years ago, when we all know that's not all the circumstances that led them there.
They are transparent about it. They teamed up because they could not skate with their previous partners. And they teamed up with each other because they have known each other for so long and were aware that it will reduce their adaptation time and would make them competitive soon enough.

They don't say it blantly but they do not hide it either.

I personally doubt this. They should leverage every minute of training to get into a decent shape before September. I wouldn't seem then doing shows at this time point.

I read [Laurence] was basically the last one to know that Guillaume and Romain and IAM and FFSG has been scheming this partnership behind her... The information just brings me pity and sadness instead of excitement of what they can do. She is there because Gabriella said no.
I think the Laurence & Guillaume partnership has been formed because Laurence said 'Yes.' Both L&G feel a mutual desire to continue exploring what they can do on the ice. Gaby and Guillaume mutually ended their partnership last year and they have not skated competitively since winning the 2022 Olympic gold medal in ice dance. Gaby's desire to no longer compete led to Guillaume pursuing other possibilities, but Gaby's choices have no direct correlation to Laurence being available and deciding to say 'Yes' to Guillaume's partnership proposal.

i am excited to see how they will be doing. I am curious in how their lines will match. How their lifts will be.

Lines that was a P/C highlight. Lifts that was a FB/S strength.

Will they go for a more classical style à la P/C or with more evocative, innovative and perhaps sometimes weird programs like Laurence did before.

What do you think would suit their skills ?
Yes, this is the excitement and anticipation that I feel, too, about the L&G partnership. They certainly have different styles: Laurence exudes power, finesse, and athleticism while Guillaume possesses iconic lyricism and stellar aesthetic attributes.

How will they combine their unique qualities, and how competitive can they manage to be after their time away from the competitive arena? These are the unknowns that will make their comeback trajectory fascinating.

TSL reported that they have come up with some unique moves, so I would guess we may see something innovative that blends their individual strengths. The choice of music will be key to how things unfold. Maybe something from a French musician. I hope they find music that is new or atypical and lesser known. Whatever they choose should enhance their skills and help express who they are together.

She's been released. I don't think FFSG would've had a press release if she hadn't, with FFSG President Gwenaëlle Noury saying "...the formation of this duo bears witness to our desire to support ambitious projects and prepare the future of French skating."
Wow I am surprised Canada didn't make it harder for her to skate for France. This new team has a great chance of causing havoc for Canada in dance especially with Lala and GP having shots at medals. I could see Chock and Bates taing gold, Laurence and Guillaume takking silver or bronze and Itally being in Italy getting the other medal. Leaving both Canadian teams off the podium come olympics.

There was no way France was going to release Guillaume Cizeron, skating for Canada was never going to happen.

We don't even know what they'll look like as a team yet. They could be great, or they could need another few seasons for their styles to mesh together. It's too early to start being pessimistic about Canada's chances for an Ice Dance medal at the Olympics based on this.

Possibly. Which is why Gilles/Poirier may win Worlds this year. It's not really certain, though, what could happen at 2026 Olympics. It will likely depend upon the caliber of programs that contending teams have next season, which hopefully will be much better than the so-so programs the top teams are showing this season.

If we start going around with "what ifs" we can go around in circle for a long time... I am not interested in speculating about what would have happened to Laurence if ... whatever.

What's happening now is this partnership. If you are not interested in it for whatever reason and any reason is good, then it's easy... no need to discuss it.

Some people are interested, I am one of them.
I am also very interested to see what this partnership is like as a fan of ice dance. Guillaume and Laurence are such fabulous skaters so I’m intrigued to see what the create together. Their styles, while different, could work very well. I’m particularly excited to see how Lolo will do with a partner who is much stronger than Nik. I think they could be epic together. I felt the Gabby and Guillaume never really stretched themselves in trying different styles of dance so im hoping Lolo will bring my Guilluame out of his usual wheelhouse.

I’m very curious about what they will bring as well to the sport.
Like many I’m happy for Laurence to be able to skate with someone who is exceptionally talented. I believe that Sorensen did his best and improved but he was definitely the weak link in that team. His strength was his strength. Their lifts were incredible. As strong generally as Chock and Bates,
I think that lifts are going to be possibly what this team will need to figure out the most. Gabi had a very languid ethereal body movement where Laurence seems more athletic.
I honestly have no real idea than anyone else does how they are going to do, but Smart and Dieck are climbing up fast and I’d argue we’re actually lowballed in the previous season.
And with all due respect to them, Guillaume and Laurence are stronger skaters than them IMO by a landslide.

I have zero basis of facts here but I get the feeling they are going to be a real threat.

As much as IAM can be problematic, they know and have developed a winning team when they see one.

Not sure how they will skate/cohere as a couple on the ice. Guillaume is (stylistically) the most beautiful male dancer since Christopher Dean. Laurence I considered just a medium-good dancer. I will always have Papadakis in my mind (since, whatever their personal problems) as a comparison. Very curious....I have not seen them together yet. I reserve judgement.
