Since the discussion is starting and the 2024-25 ISU Championships count for qualifying points for it...

The Team Event Qualification is outlined here under D.3 on page 4 - https://stillmed.olympics.com/media...m/Qualification-System-for-Figure-Skating.pdf

Only athletes that have qualified for individual events are eligible to participate with the exception of D.4, the Additional Athletes Quota. The quota is up to 5 skaters, with priority to the Host Country (Italy.) NOCs that have not qualified skaters/teams in an individual event can enter into the team event with one skater/team once the host allocations are complete. Preference is given to the best ranked 'incomplete Teams' according to the Figure Skating Team qualification list.

The NOCs can do this for only one discipline in the team event. For example, Lara Naki Gutmann received one of those quota allocations to compete in the Team event only in Beijing 2022 for Italy. Those spaces do not go beyond those five, so if there are lower ranked teams that do not have a complete team, they may have to compete with 3/4 disciplines in the competition if they qualify.

Qualifying points come from the World Standing points of one skater/team in each disicpline from each of these two ISU event groups:

a) ISU Grand Prix individual event or Grand Prix Final 2025-26
If unavailable, Junior Grand Prix individual event (but not JGPF) may be used instead

b) ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2024-25
If unavailable, 2024-25 European Figure Skating Championships/2024-25 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships may be used instead
If Europeans/4CC unavailable, 2024-25 World Junior Figure Skating Championships may be used instead

The top 10 NOCs in points will qualify for the Team event. Any ties in points will be broken by the higher number of qualifying points from Worlds, then by qualifying points from the Grand Prix/Grand Prix Final.

I'll update the table again after 4CC. For Junior Worlds, there may be some countries that will need qualifying points from there.) This is a snapshot of how the European countries look like for qualifying at the moment, this will change after Worlds.

Next update will be after Worlds. I'll update for who qualified a spot there, plus fill in for where Junior Worlds could fill in some points (such as China for Pairs.)

For Beijing only 10 countries qualified spots in 3 of the 4 disciplines and that number included Russia so those 10 countries qualified by default. Will be interesting to see how many do so for Milano. Germany & China will struggle; France is in a better position to qualify having missed out in 2022. Will South Korea have a Pair?

Hyejin Cho, who represented Korea at 2023 WTT as a pair skater, has recently teamed up with Rodion Marinskii, who formerly skated for Russia. They are most likely to represent Korea but it is unclear. Even if Hyejin and Rodion were to choose Korea, Rodion must get his Korean passport so they cannot compete at the 2026 Olympics. They would most likely be able to compete for Korea in 2030 Olympics.

I'd love to see the GB skaters get to compete in the Team event! It looks like it might be possible, which is really exciting!

As it stands only 9 countries have met the team requirements.

I honestly don’t think it’s likely for a 10th to meet the standard.

I'll write down who qualified all 4/has 3 of 4 disciplines qualified:
USA (4/4)
Canada (4/4)
Italy (4/4)
Japan (3/4 (Dance team can qualify final spot at qualifying event))
UK (3/4 (Men can qualify final spot at qualifying event))
Georgia (3/4 (Women can qualify final spot at qualifying event))
France (3/4 (Pairs team can qualify final spot at qualifying event))
South Korea (3/4 (Pairs team would be needed, but I don't think they'll have a team in time)).
Poland (3/4 (Dance team would need to qualify. However, I'm not sure if Ioulia from the pairs team can get Polish citizenship in time/I don't know what the citizenship process in Poland is like))

Countries that can get a 3rd spot at qualifying event and then qualify for team event.

Germany (2/4 (Can get a spot for men or women at qualifying event))
Switzerland (2/4 (Can get spot for pairs or dance at qualifying event))
Spain (2/4 (Can get spot for women or pairs at qualifying event. There is a pairs team that is age eligible for next year, but I'm not sure how well they'll do. There is a women's skater)).

I'll update later.

China would have to secure a pairs and women spot. Which will be tight. Since I think 3/6 women’s spots are basically accounted for.
Sui Wenjing is training with a new partner and I think she is aiming for Milano. They have a good triple throw for sure.

I believe Korea can compete with the missing discipline, they just take a zero.

I see it more likely for China to qualify a women and pair team than anything else perhaps Switzerland's dance team can qualify in Beijing?

I don't see Spain getting a pair or women or Germany getting a men or women spot.

Germany is more likely to qualify a man than Switzerland is to qualify a dance team. Just coming down to which countries/skaters/teams are still looking for qualification & the number of spots available. (Germany has a Jr man who turns Sr-eligible next season, and has the potential to score high enough. He has two quads and a 3A, but whether his nerves hold up is a different question.)

Pairs is going to be a tough qualification, with only three more available spots, one of which is sure to go to the Russian team. Add to that the countries going for an additional spot (USA, JPN), CHN and potentially ARM (Akopova/Rakhmanin are transferring from Russia) and you get a healthy amount of competition.

I don’t understand why Korea doesn’t do something about their pairs situation.

Like they have plenty of single skaters they can pair up. Just look how nicely things are coming along in japan for pairs/ice dance
they are... they have a Russian male partner for Cho. but will they be ready to earn a spot ? If they don't they will be able to compete granted L/Q earn their spot (spot is earned already at this poin)... and that pair could compete with them... but not in the pairs discipline...
