It's this time of the year... where the summer series start. I believe there's already been a small event in Alberta and this weekend it is the Super Series Victoria Day in BC. So here is our new thread

This is a special. An Olympic year.
Canada has qualified
3 spots in dance
2 spots in pairs
1 spot in men
1 spot in women
The most optimistic scenario could give Canada 3 medals at the games. Dance with Piper and Paul, Pairs with Deanna and Max and the team event.
However, the most pessimistic scenario could mean Canada comes back without any medals at the games.
What are your predictions ?
Looking at some of the lists from Patinage Québec, we have 3 new pairs teams...
Quatrocci and Lacasse teamed up following the retirement of their respective partners. I hope they do well in juniors and adapt fast.
Beau Callaghan is coming back to pairs alongside Vladimir Furman, a tall and strong skater from Québec who seems to be a good prospect for pairs.
Surprise surprise, Thierry Ferland is back on the ice with partner Eliana Secunda, a former USA single skater who had switched to pairs. I don't know much about her. It's surprising to me that Thierry isn't able to find a partner in Québec considering the many competent skaters available (in singles) who are not "that tall" but of course, pairs is a different animal and one needs to want to be lifted, twisted and thrown. I hope this is the good partner for him.
They will certainly represent Canada because otherwise, they wouldn't be on the Team Québec listing (and funded by Patinage Québec)
Any other new partnerships you are interested about ? What do you think of these three partnerships ?
Talking of pairs, I think our 3 teams will bounce back this year. Are you confident that Lia and Trennt and Deanna and Max can come back strongly at the games ?
I am assuming at this point both teams would participate at worlds too.. which is not necessarily a guarantee after the games... If so, do you think Canada will earn their 3 spots back ? With the up and coming teams, and our juniors, it seems imperative for Canadian pairs skaters to grab some spots
In dance, I believe strongly that Piper and Paul will be great. I am sure that the Lanes have kept a good free dance for them this Olympic year. They have learned their lesson by now, not just them but all coaches/choreos, that a good program can earn you a good score... as most teams anyways do the same elements, it often comes to that.. (look at the Dune free dance at worlds).
LaLa are in a same position. They need and deserve much better programs.
Will it be Fabbri and Ayer or Lauriault Le Gac for the third spot ?
I think Fabbri and Ayer are on an upward trajectory while Lauriault Le Gac have reached pretty much their optimal level... The latter do not have the best skating skills and speed but they are acrobatic and fun to watch... I love seeing them compete but I prefer Fabbri Ayer's speed and power.
For men, at this point we need to see who will be healthy or not. That's all I can say.
I am more excited by what is happening with our junior skaters. Eddy for instance will hopefully have a better season now that he has done a full season back from injury.
Women : it's really Maddie's ticket to the games to lose. She's been dominant for many years on the Canadian scene but it may not be enough... Others are growing stronger and stronger and could challenge her. However, at this point, if Skate Canada consider experience, the team event, and how internationl judges see our skaters, it would take a real meltdown at Nationals for Maddie not to get that ticket.
I am excited to see how Sara-Maude brings up her tech (triple axel in the works and landed in practice)
I think Kaiya and Uliana as well as Fée Ann and Breken could challenge for a 4CC spot... if not for the top of the podium at Nationals. Olympic season can make it or break it for any skater who is just looking at the champion and wanting that spot
Lia Cho will continue to be on my radar ! Cannot wait to see her compete. It was such a highlight of my nationals to see her long program live.
What are your thoughts ????
