2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Optimistically Canada, very optimistically, has three medal chances - dance, pairs and team. But realistically winning one medal in dance will be challenging. The team requires really Max and Deanna and Piper and Paul both to tbe in top 2 or 3 and A pray by miracle the singles skaters do their best. The men are a hot mess right now. Truthfully you cannot put any faith in Gogolov with injuries and never ever having a good skate a more mature skater not a little boy. Wesley is like oatmeal okay but doesn't offer artistic superiority or difficult tech. Roman is the hope probably but has never nailed it and the judges had been waiting to give hime the marks but after so m any bad skates he will have to earn a reputation to garner higher marks and the time is really running out. Maddie is the class of the field and that isn't a strong class. She has been unable to get consistent or improve her artistry substantially from th elast olympics but she is the best Sorry Sarah MD is a nice skater. Great she is trying a triple axel but trying in practice and never landing in competition is two big things. In pairs while they are okay it seems like Deanna and Max have lost their fire, drive. They nver brought the best artistry or tech skills but the other teas are getting better and they are dropping. Lia and Trennt are up and down but no longer look like a top 5 team. The big issue is the Americans look to pass both Canadian teams and that is going to be painful. Japan, Georgia, Germany, 2 Italian teams makes Deanna and Max not even sure top 5. Piper and Paul are the only medal team from worlds in 2025 and they now have to contend with Laurence and Guillaume as well as th eShibutanis on top of Chock and Bates; Fear and Gibson, the Italians. They have never been a favoured or chosen team so they could find themselves off the podium. They really need good programs and improved costumes and presentation to try to win a medal. They are the best shot for Canada for a medal. Michael Slipchuk has not been able to change the direction of the Canadian ship

Why always these negative posts? I'm not even Canadian, but there are ways to discuss the men, the women, well all disciplines really in a more constructive way. I have faith in Piper/Paul and Deanna/Max, but also in Lia/Trennt and Marjorie/Zachary. The single's may be less in medal contention, but I felt you could be proud of Maddie and Roman in maintaining spots - no Chinese contest necessary for Canada. Why not focus on more positive take-outs? Canada's got the guys with the best skating skills and artistic performance, they're always in the mix with pairs at 4CC and Worlds for top 5 and 10 finishes respectively, the depth in ID is wonderful, and in Maddie you've got a gem in Women.

Don't know if Sara-Maude Dupuis read this forum. But if she does !
I suggest her to choose music for her Olympic programs in which she looks fierce.

Her best program and style to me is when she interpret fierce program like these one :

SP :
FS :

Hope that she goes in this direction for her Olympic program !

Those are my favourite programs of hers (so far) for sure 🥰 At this point, she's probably working on her programs for next season. Plus she mentionedin the 4CC mixed zone that she isn't sure she will keep her free skate due to the new music rules. So that'll affect what she chooses for next season.

Roman talked about it in his last vlog about the music rules with his programs for next season and Skate Canada has some information about it here. It shouldn't affect any of the skaters competing domestically, only the ones competing at ISU competitions.

Does anyone know if this will effect Maddie and her new long program?
She mentioned it could effect if she keeps Lion King, but not Butterfly Lovers at Nationals. I think she'll be fine for the free.

Anybody know if Next Gen team will be announced soon. They mention Apr 2025 and May is almost over.

Should I email Skate Canada? Or is that too crazy?

My guess is that they'll wait until after the NextGen competition again to make the external announcement. I think internally they've announced it given that David Li and Grayson Long are both competing in Junior competitions when they've moved up to Seniors domestically. No need to practice the Junior versions of their programs if they aren't going to be at the NextGen competition.

So in other developments, Peter Beaumont reposted a story earlier this week of him practicing pairs lifts with Tilda Alteryd and has also posted a story today of practicing a 2A in Oakville. I don't know where this is going, but now I want to see Alteryd/Beaumont.

I think the TBD dance will be either Lauriault Le Gac or Fabbri Ayer... depending who deserves it more... based on earlier competitions.
