2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

This is the thing for me. It shouldn't be chosen based on name recognition for potential ticket sales. People may want Gabby to get the spot for SCI or the Olympics, but she doesn't have the results for that yet in my opinion based on her free programs so far. Whether she will get them or not remains to be seen.
i think that nobody clearly has had a convincing LP yet, even Uliana. It's hard to watch a skater for 4 minutes when there is little connection to music/audience.

Found John Kim's LP from Skate Ontario

this is a very intense program. I like it. he does it well. I find it interesting that he is not repeating either quad. I guess it's a good strategy to keep working on both, even if one may be less steady, because it does allow him to have both for the SP. The salchow didn't work out however.. nor did the 3a, which seems to be his least steady jump.

nice sequence with the +2a+2a ... too bad he wasn't able to triple either or both of the toes (as i am guessing his layout would allow him to only have 3-3 combos without repeating the quads nor the axel.. )

Someone will have to adopt him soon ;) I was going to post this on his fan fest but he doesn't have one yet. I am incapable of being a good parent (was Conrad's and now Edward's) so if anyone wants to take care of John, that would be great ;)

It's even harder to watch a skater who falls and pops on half of the jumping passes. Success is easier on the eyes

I agree with this. I have a hard time watching either.. but to me, success is more than just the jumps... 7 jumping passes = about 15 seconds in a 4 minute program. I will stick to what I said, nobody really has had a convincing long program this summer :) Some did better with jumps but not enough with the rest, some did better with the rest but not enough with the jumps and some didn't do much of either ;)

I am very happy to promote John Kim’s skating. Not sure what adopting him entails tho. I don’t do meta or X and not an insider.

Thank you for posting the video. That is going to be a great programme. He has so much talent and commitment and he is working on not popping . A bit like a yearling colt right now but it’s just August. I think at Cdns, people are going to be very impressed with him.

I am the same with social media... I try to avoid... Adopting just means starting the Opening Post in the Fan Fest part of the forum. And once in a while, updating it.

I honestly am a bad parent myself.... I adopted Conrad but then, while on break from skating forums, I got someone else to claim him ;) and then, I have adopted Eddy and I am not the most diligent in updating the OP... I really like John, so I would be inclined to adopt him but since I am such a bad parent I am waiting to see if someone else does it first ;) No pressure on you though. I just think John deserves some love and support from skating fans ! I discovered him last year at Nationals and he is very talented indeed. I hope he keeps working hard and soon enough, the jumps will stabilize.

Keegan Messing un-retires:

I can't do this anymore... What happened to only retiring when you were actually done?
Straight to high performance camp too. Definitely a wait and see for me, it feels late to be deciding when the GP assignments have been made for the men and he doesn't have a current body of work and no competitions over the summer.

PS in some ways, it does make sense
He said his body needed to rest... after a few seasons of shows, he certainly kept in shape but would have conquered some of the lingering injuries or aches
He needed to be with his babies... well, they are older now...

PS 2 I want a Patrick Chan return with all his jumps back too :) (I know this one doesn't make sense but who cares)

I can’t believe Keegan is back!!! Wow!!!
I thought Romsky had the Olympics in the bag, and then Stephen stepped up and now Keegan is here.

Keegan’s un retirement is a tad too late though. No senior GP event.
Will he automatically get two Challenger events?

There's nothing in the guidelines for automatic assignments for Challengers. He hasn't met the benchmarks for it yet since he doesn't have any competitions since 2023.

If he wants the Challenger assignments, he should be competing domestically like the other skaters have.

Jason went straight to US Championships with no GP the year after the lasts Olys and ended up with the Silver medal. Good for Keegan! If he wants to compete, he should compete. :)

I was musing recently how the Olympic team event may have worked out if Keegan had not had the positive COVID test and made it in time. Our kids would now definitely have a bronze medal IMO. Maybe he has been thinking about that as well.

But he also has such star quality and is a crowd favourite - his return is good for the sport even if he isn't as strong as before. I agree with Saine, he needs to do a domestic competition first but given he decided this comeback a few months ago, I imagine Keegan has a good assessment of his skill level being adequate to the task.

Last year I didn't see much on the camp unlike in years past. I wonder if / how SC will promote its skaters in an Olympic year or have given up on that.

Roman and Gogo just did well at Cranberry and now with this News maybe it will push them both to keep the upward trend going. Also there were a couple years where Keegan was the favorite for the CAN title yet he didn't win, in fact one of those years Roman won.

PS1 - great news and Keegan seemed to be on an upward trajectory when he retired.

PS2 - I'd really love Patrick back competing - I only had chance to see him skate in real life once - and if I could wish anyone else to un-retire, it would be him above all others.
