2025 John Nicks Pairs Challenge International: General Info and Pregame Chat

Do you recall where in the rink the seats were located? Were they just folding chairs that someone brought in? I didn't see any seats when I went in 2022. I would hope that they would at least provide some seating for spectators for this event.

Also, did they charge you admission to watch the event? I didn't pay when I attended mid-Atlantics but I arrived halfway thru the event, so I don't know if they were charging. Speaking of judges, when I went to Mid Atlantics, I recognized two of the judges - Peter Cain (Ashley's dad) and Todd Sand. This was a few months before his heart attack at Junior Worlds.
They were right up against the corner of the rink near the entrance iirc. Very close to the glass—I remember Max Fernandez winking at me 😂 I think they were built in but I guess I’ll find out if I end up going next week.

Re: admission, they did charge but not very much, especially since Mid-Atlantics had been going most of the day. I think it was $10 or less and I might’ve paid in cash, but if anything i think I went out of my way to make sure I was doing the correct thing because the atmosphere was so chaotic! Dodging teams doing off-ice lifts and all 😅

Another thing I remember is their speakers were in bad shape two years ago, bad enough that no one could understand the announcements. Names and scores almost completely garbled. So I ended up referencing my phone to confirm who was on the ice whenever I wasn’t completely sure… and found out the scores later.

Thanks. YOu should work for the ISU. Everything would be clearer :)
There's quite a few posters here, whom I would love to see working for the ISU. Especially with regard to entrees, countries and other important information....not to mention how to make a revamped website (their earlier website was fine and had good pages on entrees, results and such).

Thank you! I'm fairly local and am thinking about attending, but it's been so hard to find information online. I called the rink on Friday and was told that the schedule is being finalized and would be posted on the Skating Club of NY website on Saturday (yesterday), but I don't see any information there. I'm curious where you found this! Also, do you know if this is a cold rink where I'd want a winter coat? Thanks!

I don't remember it being a cold rink, but videos show a lot of fogging. It's by the pier so there's a lot of sun. Note though that there are no spectator seating in that rink. Be prepared to stand -- and there's not a lot of places to stand LOL. The young ones sit and climb on those huge built in cabinets by the windows but I can't lift myself to even consider that.

John Nicks has never been part of NQS but they schedule the Mid-Atlantic NQS pairs event during the John Nicks.

I was there when Reagan Moss/Galbavy made their first ever competitiion at the Mid-Atlantic NQS, which was in between the John Nicks events.
Yes. But they will be different competitions. And in the first message you linked the John Nicks Pairs Challenge with the NQS, not the Middle Atlantic Championships.
