Has anyone bought tickets for nationals yet?
I haven't

i went to visit the site... i could find a decent seat all event for 290 including taxes... my main issue is the city. It's close enough for me to bus there...but too far to trek day in and out... and then, the hotel situation is not ideal because the one close to the venue is sold out.

So where to stay? How much to spend for like 2 nights because the schedule is indeed split over 3 days...

After all these thoughts, I decided to think some more LOL... Right now, I am not going for the whole weekend. I am considering perhaps going for the saturday later on, when tickets for single days are released... that would mean coming in and out the same day for me which may be tiring but less of a pain in some ways.

It's very conflicting considering that it's the last time many skaters will compete at Nationals as I'd expect many to retire after the O games.

Glad to see they are getting two spots- 2 weeks apart! This means Layla and Alexander should get Poland or UAE. Competition concerns?
Neither Pidgaina/Koval nor Aboian/Veselukhin have a second JGP assignment yet, so they'll likely be at either one. Mouaden/Bigot are assigned to JGP Abu Dhabi.

Might be another very uneven season when it comes to depth from JGP to JGP. That's also already the case for the Junior Men.

I can understand your hesitation, but I think you will end up regretting it if you don't go. The last sentence in your post is significant.

Everyone skates on Saturday: short for dance and women, free for men and pairs. So that is a good option.

I went in 2018, and it was very emotional with the competition for Olympic spots and "last skates". The reaction was particularly strong for Eladj; I have heard him talk in interviews about the crowd support. Another emotional roller-coaster was created when one of our best skaters messed up (fell?) in the short, but pulled up in the free to make the team. I think it was Andrew Poje, but am not sure now.

My daughter is coming half-way across the continent and is going to have to miss Sunday because of work commitments on Monday. So surely you can manage one day! Do it for me!

and to everyone else @FlossieH etc

I am considering doing the saturday.. I just need to see if I can bus back that same night. I could do a hotel for one night but then, if i do that, i might as well stay the whole weekend :)

Of course I will regret it if i don't go... but i have done way worse...

When Patrick announced his last Stars on Ice, I didn't go in Laval (which is super close by subway) because
1) i was working
2) i don't like shows
3) i didn't like the program i had seen him do already at worlds gala..

Well... i regretted it because he did other programs :)

but yeah... a few days later, I was over it. Skating is awesome and I love it... but life is life ;)

Does the fact that Kaiya got Nebelhorn mean she got the TBD spot? Or am I reading too much into this challenger assignment (ie. maybe she got the assignment due to her 178 Nationals 4th place finish last season). Is the HP camp over?

HP camp is this week

The entries were due Friday, before HPC. She said in an interview in July that there were plans in the works for a Challenger assignment, but nothing definite at that time. I think she is one of the TBD candidates, but this isn't a sign that she got the spot. More that the plans became definite.

She did get the assignment without going over 166 at her summer competition (162.51 at Skate Ontario August), so there's a data point.

Nepela Memorial has been added to the assignments page, which makes sense to me if they're giving out second Challenger assignments to skaters on the Grand Prix (or may be on the Grand Prix in the case of Hensen/Lickers.) I'm hoping for some of the Ice Dance teams that could be in contention for 4CC 🤞

Also they listed Budapest Trophy as a Challenger, but it isn't this season.

SC has provided the Cdn entries for September Challengers. For Nepela, we are sending S-M Dupuis, A. Rajic and Lajoie and Lagha - no pairs teams. It looks like Kelly Ann Laurin & Loucas Éthier for Kinoshita Cup are withdrawn - they are no longer on the ISU entry page. I wonder if they are injured. With Fiona and Ben MIA as well, we only have two senior pairs teams competing internationally right now. I hope both teams are back soon!

Also, congratulations to Ava K and Yohnatan E for capturing gold today in Ankara (and a new personal best) and booking their ticket to the JGP Final in December. They beat a really good Chinese team to do that and showed that they are a well-rounded technical and artistic team. Given that they plan to compete domestically as seniors this year, perhaps SC should get them to a senior challenger this autumn to get their world's minimum in case we have another injury. With a score today of 179.43 today, and add the value of another lift in the free (and more difficult SBS jumps in the short) - they would be fairly competitive at that level.

I’m so happy with how Canada 🇨🇦 is doing in the JGP circuit. We won the most medals at Riga and now we might win the most medals at Ankara despite not sending anybody in the singles events 😳

Ava and Yohnathan are wow!! The 179 score put them past two of our National Pairs teams. Are they eligible for the Olympics? 17 and 21 sounds Seniors to me. I think they were smart to get their JGP events over with. Maybe, they expect to now be sent to a challenger event to get minimums. I just have this weird feeling we will see them at 4CC this season, if they are even eligible for these type of competitions.
