2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I’m so happy with how Canada 🇨🇦 is doing in the JGP circuit. We won the most medals at Riga and now we might win the most medals at Ankara despite not sending anybody in the singles events 😳

Ava and Yohnathan are wow!! The 179 score put them past two of our National Pairs teams. Are they eligible for the Olympics? 17 and 21 sounds Seniors to me. I think they were smart to get their JGP events over with. Maybe, they expect to now be sent to a challenger event to get minimums. I just have this weird feeling we will see them at 4CC this season, if they are even eligible for these type of competitions.
Ava and Yohnatan are Senior eligible internationally starting this season. Warsaw Cup would be the Challenger that works best, assuming Trialeti Trophy will not have Canadians there.

I'm hoping that they do send Pairs to Trialeti, it's the last Challenger with Pairs before the Grand Prix starts.

SC must know they need to send both Jr Pairs to a senior B right? Like it would be absolutely foolish not to.
And on top of that, it's not like they need to learn a hard lift they don't master... the tough one is required this year... so they are almost all set.

I believe that we may see at least one junior team at 4CC as well, so it's crucial that Skate Canada makes sure they get their required CES early in the season.

Honestly, depending on injuries there could be several Jr teams there.

Even Q/L came close to the TES needed for 4CC (72 vs 75) and that is with one less lift.

It seems like L/E and B/M may have injuries, why not have others that can step up.

There are three more Senior Pairs teams that are starting their season soon that could be in the pool for assignments depending on how they do domestically.

Sask Skate will have Yunoki/Taylor and Schmitz/Eberl, Souvenir Georges-Ethier will be the debut for Secunda/Ferland. Hopefully they will have good competitions.

yes... at the same time... will they be better than Ava and Yoni ? I mean they are landing their triple jumps and throws.. and they are just so polished already this season. I can see some of these senior teams edging Jazzy and Kiki because of the SBS jumps... but yeah. I think Ava and Yoni are headed in the right direction if they can only fix their death spiral :) and increase their sequence to include a 2a .. they'd be up there.

There's no guarantee that they'll be better, more that the hopes for filling 4CC spots don't need to rest entirely on the teams who may be aiming for Junior World's. 4CC is going to be a short turnaround from Nationals and in Beijing, so they may not want to do it with Junior Worlds too.

That's a very good point because traditionally, Skate Canada has not allowed teams to do both 4CC /JWC and to be honest, I'd rather have Yoni and Ava go to JWC and only that but be at their peak than getting distracted by 4CC.

I would prefer Kemp/Elizarov to focus on junior worlds and try to round off their junior career with a medal there. Send them to a senior B by all means, but let them transition to seniors without the pressure of being under the spotlight at 4CC.

I agree about 4CC being a possible distraction, but I still think they should get worlds minimum. We don't know the health status of Fiona / Ben and Kelly Ann / Loucas, and if Deanne and Max decide to retire after the Olympics and not go to Worlds, that could just leave one team with the TES minimum to compete at Worlds.

I know, that is a lot of "ifs" and worst case scenarios, but - if Ava and Yohnatan already have "senior" programmes for Canadians (I am assuming they will get a bye from Challenger because of the JGP final), and they have no more competitions now until December, it shouldn't be too onerous to go to a Challenger. Although the good news is that neither B/M and L/E have withdrawn from their GP assignments - so there is hope. 🤞

I am all in for giving them a challenger and getting them the scores they need. I will not forget that year where we couldn't send deserving athletes to 4CC because they had never been sent out to get those minimums (Fiona)

On that note, I want Ben (okay, I am dreaming) to learn a triple lutz because that was Fiona's best jump and it's no longer useful at all...

The competition will be fierce : Chinese pairs are back and I agree they need that junior medal :)

I will be a bit chauvinistic but I am happy that Canadian junior pairs and Chinese junior pairs are doing so well... they kind of are opposites in style but I love them so much for different reasons !!!!

Robert Brodie article about High Performance Camp, with the most important information (TBDs, comebacks, I know what I really care about):

The list of women who have landed the triple Axel in competition is a rather exclusive one — just 27 in total, beginning with Japan’s Midori Ito landing the first one way back in 1988 (that’s 37 years ago, if you don’t want to do the math).

Sara-Maude Dupuis says she wants to be the next one to join that club.

The 20-year-old Montrealer says that big jump will be the big upgrade to her free program, which is the same one she used last season, skated to music from the “Human” soundtrack. And she’s sounds confident about pulling off the “riskiest element” in that routine.

He also has an explanation for why they chose which women were invited (they're on the Grand Prix alternates list) and the TBD for women will be announced later in September. Kinoshita Group Cup will be the decider for the TBD for Ice Dance. Also Lauriault/Le Gac will need to change their RD due to music clearance issues.

Too bad about the RD for Lauriault-Le Gac because it scored well... At the same time, they will probably just change the music and not all the choreo so it may still score well.

Go Sara-Maude ! Land the 3a
