2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

BTW they are skating later today in Budapest. There is no real opposition for them there. They should win the event based on the entry list. Hopefully that gives them a boost ahead of GP
I just went to have a look and it's another paid for stream. :( I do wish Ice Stars TV would do a season pass. I would have probably bought that, as long as it wasn't a ridiculous price, but I can't afford all the individual passes.

yeah... for me it's not even the money at this point. it's the simple fact that I watch tons of skating for free. so why should I, on top of that, pay for a small event or even a challenger.... ?

The event is too small to justify the cost. Same for Tayside Trophy. Tayside has always been free in the past, and I think Budapest was last year as well. The Challenger in Georgia is charging a rather inflated price. I'm trying to save up for a new flute, and there is JGP stuff which I haven't watched yet - so I really cannot justify paying.

There are also decent Russians this weekend too. So, hard to justify price of Tbilisi. I only bought one challenger so far. Was tempted with Nebelhorn, but somehow managed.

Again, viewing only for my Canadian friends:

La/La full RD in the first competition of the year. I'm a fan. This will get sharper as we progress along the season. It lagged a bit at the end - this is high energy from start to finish. Full on, no breaks.

I really like that.:yes1: I wonder if my partner still has any photos of us doing a show program in virtually the same costumes with different numbers and ID , because I can't find any in my own files. We used Frank Mills' Breakaway, still a popular piece of music at the time.

They do a much better job with the concept than we did. Looking forward to seeing it when the ragged edges have been polished up :jump3:!

The concept is good, from the arena favourites music to the sports jersey costumes.
That's a full-on cardio workout, so no surprise it's not at peak performance yet. Good placement of the elements. Looks pretty sharp for this point in the season. I can see them flying through this for the Olympics. This is the kind of program they needed last year to stand out.

So, what's the consensus on Piper and Paul doing a Ru Paul Rhythm Dance?

Honestly, it doesn't sound like a program I'm going to enjoy... and, at the same time, I'm fascinated to see what it looks like.

I think they're trying to out-Yaasss-Queen the Brits, and I hope they do it.

I think it will be awesome

I think I'm more interested to see what Paul's costume will be than seeing the actual program :wonder:.

I think that Worlds is where they need to peak. Status seems to carry the most weight in ice dance, and the Olympics are likely to go to Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron, with Chock/Bates and Guignard/Fabbri on the podium. FB/C scored really high in the competition they did already - about 20 points more than other teams were at that early stage of the season.

FBC scored highly at French Masters. There is no guarantee that they will score the same way internationally. Also, they have had to change their RD since then (which wasn't that great to start with). So to get back to Canadian content, I wouldn't push Piper and Paul out of the race because of FBC. I would also not automatically think that the Italians will de facto get a medal because they are at home games. If they have bad material like last year, they could finish outside the top 5 and be dropped by the judges as other teams are now favourites like FBC and maybe even the Spaniards.

So, let's wait and see what Piper and Paul and LaLa do.

I genuinely think that the Worlds podium, or even title, could be realistic for LaLa this season. That is why I think they should peak for Worlds. I don't think Cizeron normally does the Worlds immediately after the Olympics. I suspect Chock/Bates and G/F to retire after the Olympics. P/P might hold on to try to win Worlds. I am expecting Fear and Gibson to be out of the picture this season. Their programmes aren't great. Smart/Dieck could be in the mix if they have another really good programme. Lopareva/Brissaud appear to be getting pushed down in the scoring this season, I suspect the make the French pecking order crystal clear. Worlds really could be LaLas chance to establish themselves as a top team for the next quarter.

That's one possibility. Who knows who will take part at Worlds. If ever FBC do not win a medal at the games or do not even participate (I don't think Lolo has received her citizenship yet) I could see them competing at worlds to establish themselves for the next quarter too. They may be aiming for home games in France. in 2030. Who knows ?
