2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

That's one possibility. Who knows who will take part at Worlds. If ever FBC do not win a medal at the games or do not even participate (I don't think Lolo has received her citizenship yet) I could see them competing at worlds to establish themselves for the next quarter too. They may be aiming for home games in France. in 2030. Who knows ?
If she gets through the citizenship hurdle, she last competed for Canada at Worlds in 2024, so there would still have to be some additional steps taken for them to even get to Milan.

Per the Olympic Charter: https://stillmed.olympics.com/media...ittee/IOC-Publications/EN-Olympic-Charter.pdf

A competitor who has represented one country in the Olympic Games, in continental or regional games or in world or regional championships recognised by the relevant IF, and who has changed his nationality or acquired a new nationality, may participate in the Olympic Games to represent his new country provided that at least three years have passed since the competitor last represented his former country. This period may be reduced or even cancelled, with the agreement of the NOCs and IF concerned, by the IOC Executive Board, which takes into account the circumstances of each case.

Lajoie/Lagha's free dance at Budapest Trophy:
What do you guys think?
After finishing 7th at Worlds last season, do you think they can move back up to top 6 during Olympic season even with the comeback of the French team?
🙏 they can do it.

Lajoie/Lagha's free dance at Budapest Trophy:
though this performance is very solid and heartfelt, it did feel like too much thanksgiving leftovers to me. I am sad they had to bring this one back and not presenting a new free dance. I don't know if the judges will like it and that worries me.

based on skill, yes
based on RD, yes
but I don't know if the FD will make them standout.

I like the free dance. I like that it's such a contrasting piece to the RD. Showing range is always good. I'm wondering though why they went back to an old piece rather than choosing something new. Was the new program just not working? I think if they look at this as a work in progress, it could be great. Right now, I need to see some more highlights, something original I haven't seen before in it.

There are things I really like — the little hop into the twizzles is great. Their speed and deep edges are gorgeous as always. I just need a couple of moments where they zig when I expect them to zag and it makes me catch my breath.

Anyway, it's a beautiful, sophisticated program that's better than a lot of the rest of what I've seen so far this season (which, to be fair, isn't a lot, as I haven't been watching too much of the pre-grand prix comps).

I genuinely think that the Worlds podium, or even title, could be realistic for LaLa this season. That is why I think they should peak for Worlds. I don't think Cizeron normally does the Worlds immediately after the Olympics. I suspect Chock/Bates and G/F to retire after the Olympics. P/P might hold on to try to win Worlds. I am expecting Fear and Gibson to be out of the picture this season. Their programmes aren't great. Smart/Dieck could be in the mix if they have another really good programme. Lopareva/Brissaud appear to be getting pushed down in the scoring this season, I suspect the make the French pecking order crystal clear. Worlds really could be LaLas chance to establish themselves as a top team for the next quarter.
Assuming that Piper and Paul do not win the Olympics, and I don't think we can write that possibility off... We haven't even seen their programs or Chock and Bates... and the New French were wildly overscored at French Masters and are having to redo the RD... and, like you, I discount the Brits entirely and don't think Smart/Diaz are quite there either...

Lord, I lost my train of thought. If P/P don't win the Olympics, then I really hope they go to Worlds. They deserve a global title.

In their absence, assuming that the more established names retire, then they've got a shot.

Given the timing of High Performance Camp and their withdrawal from Nepela, I think the change probably came from there.

I'm going back to their interview from High Performance Camp, where their first choice would have the rights for it be too expensive for them. Another team was using their second choice. If Bach was their third choice and not working out, it would probably be easier at this point in the season to go back to an old program that worked for them.

They were happy with how it went from the Skate Canada release:
“I think this is the best first competition we’ve ever had! We’re really happy. Obviously, there are still things to improve, but considering how we skated and managed our stress, I can say it went well,” said Lagha.

Ice dance is so political. Anything can happen. All I know right now is that there are about 9 teams that could get a medal at the Olympics. In no particular order: Chock&Bates, Shibs, P&P, Lala, Davis&Smolkin, Fear&Gibson, Italians, OliviaTim, Laurence&Guillaume

Really? I think the medals is between only four: C&B, P&P, Italians, Laurence&Guillaume

Admittedly it's early in the season, but I don't think there are that many teams in the mix for a medal. I think Chock/Bates are more or less a lock. I think Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron are there due to politics alone (assuming Fournier-Beaudry gets the nod to be able to compete, though it looks like the French Fed is definitely assuming they will, seeing as they've dropped Lopareva/Brissaud like a lead balloon). I think the Italians have medalled all of the last several years and will be skating at home. Likewise Gilles/Poirier have several silvers under their belts.

The Shibs have not competed at all in the pre-season, or since the last Olympics. I would be extremely surprised to see them in the mix. They waited too long to come back. LaLa and Davis/Smolkin are being positioned for the next quad, not this podium. Smart/Dieck had a great free dance last season, and this season's sequel is also highly entertaining, but I don't think they're in it for the podium. Fear/Gibson are the most likely spoiler of this second tier of teams, but I would still be extremely surprised to see them on the Olympic podium.

As the season progresses, I reserve the right to change my mind, though, lol.

I'm so excited to see Deanna and Max this week!!!! Sadly, as much as I love them, I don't see them winning here. RikuRyu are stronger at this point. But a medal is very likely, and as long as they have a better competition than at John Nicks, I'll be happy.

Lets not forget C/P of the USA. Last year at worlds it seemed like they were being set up to take over from C/B as USA medalist in dance if C/B retire after the Olympics. Which also would have me wondering if the USA would put the Shibs ahead of this team at home. And if they go into the Olympics as the 3rd ranked USA team I think that would put them out of the race even for a top 5 finish.

I am expecting something better than John Nicks at this point in the season. Not flawless but a very decent skate.
