2025 Skate America Pairs Short Program

If I can survive this huge coverage disappointment. 🤕😫🥴 It's also the fault of clueless U.S. figure skating. I bet they are doing this as a build-up to the Olympics. But why?? Due to the scheduling change with France, the lineups at SkAm do NOT have any of the top U.S. skaters! Someone quick, tell Tara & Johnny that Ilia isn't here! Neither are Isabeau or Amber!
Alysa is there???

BTW Thanks for the suggestion.
I have a laptop but never use it.
I prefer to watch skating on my Smart TV which does not have a preloaded VPN app. (Some TV’s come with it.. mine does not). There are a couple of ways to add it. I live in a rural area where there has been a single internet provider for years - literally no competition - until recently. A new provider has moved in vying for business and I have been approached a few times to switch. My current provider price gouges, upping the fees every couple of months until you are forced to call and negotiate the fees yet again. I am thinking of switching, knowing that the new company will likely raise their rates too after the initial low offer. So I am twixt & between at the moment; if I switch providers, I will ask them to install a VPN on the new router. Meanwhile I will contact Peacock to (as Arigato said) “pluck its feathers”. Wish me luck☺️
PS How are the kittens? Did you decide the names?
Kittens are good! Amber and Bradie❤️

The most important one is there 😉

Ha ha. You mean Alysa Liu, or Chock/ Bates? 😂 Ilia is the most important U.S. star, and he's not there. Unless politics prevails, C/B might not win gold at the Olympics, but they fairly much have the power structure on their side.

Alysa is a cool cucumber, for sure, but Petrosian, a confident Amber, Kaori, and even Mone Chiba, and Isabeau, are all in the running for Olympic gold in women's discipline.

Alysa is there???
Yes, I know. That's why ice dance and women are being shown after pairs and men at SkAm. If Ilia were there, the men would be shown last. Just like at Beijing Olympics, pairs was competed last in figure skating because host country, China, had contenders for the gold medal in pairs.

Wow the Georgians are really giving it to the Japanese and with these results Georgia could threaten Japan for the team silver come Milano. Geogia got the highest score this season and look so polished and crisp. The battle for third will be interesting. Those Americans will bring it in the free.

Who cares about Ilia if he already has all the golds this and next 5 seasons? No competition so it's boring. And I didn't even watch dance once so ofc we talk about Alysa

My goodness. The humorous point I made in regard to NBC/ Peacock coverage still stands. The biggest guns ain't at Skate America, especially not in men or pairs. Chock/ Bates and Alysa Liu are both current World champs expected to win at SkAm, which is why their disciplines are competed last. But the fields they are up against are not that tough. Yep, NBC will go on about Alysa, just like they would Ilia, who normally is at SkAm. He isn't this year due to the scheduling switch with France.

Not sure what you mean by 'Who cares about Ilia?' Apparently, not you. But the numbers of people who do care outweigh in quantity and importance those who profess they don't care. :palmf:

No, that's silly. The number of people who care about him or any other current skater is fairly small, that is why it's a niche sport. And even in that niche sport, just because people care - or don't - about this or that particular skater does not make them individually more important or significant - make them somehow matter more - than others.

I catched up pairs and I loved Annika and Robert - their vibe is so good, costumes are great and their elements are so clean, pure joy to watch. Ana/Luka's program is not my cup of tea and the ornaments on their costume are too much for me but they skated so well, their consistency is amazing. Riku/Ryu - I love their program but got a bit messy here, 2T aside they need to work on some levels cause there is no room to loose any points. I really liked Val/Max despite mistakes (although I don't get their music choice), their lift was so nice and the death spiral really fast with a great flow on the exit.

Very, very pleased for Anni and Robert, as well as Karina and Nikita and Kelly-Ann and Loucas. ❤️ Unfortunately, sbs jumps were dicey for most teams, including costly falls for all three US teams and the pop for Riku and Ryuichi :(

The Georgians were technically superb, but I don't like their SP for many reasons, not least of all because I never want to hear Bolero again in my life.

Why am I seeing commercials on Peacock? I didn’t see commercials when the other GP events were aired on Peacock.

Maybe because this GP is in America? :wonder: I remember watching some programs that were first aired in the US where they were skipping a lot of spots for ads in my country (there were ads on my channel too but not as frequent and likely longer ones).

IDK how about US but in my country which Poland November is typically butt-ugly. Hazy, overcast almost all the time, rainy and with short days already, blech. There's a saying in Poland ''piękny jak noc listopadowa'' - ''As beautiful as a November night''.
Reminds me of Thomas Hood’s poem “November” or “No”.. the final lines:

No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease;
No comfortable feel in any member.
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves,
No birds.
November!

Maybe I am exaggerating with my negativity (and it's a very ... Polish thing, our hobby is complaining 😅 ) as sunny days happen in November too but there is not much yellow & red leaves left in the middle of the month to please the eye either unlike two weeks ago. Our name for November in Polish is ''listopad'' which means the month of fallen leaves. And that's beautiful, isn't it? :)

Hoping I'll be able to see a replay of this somewhere, since I won't be able to watch it live. In the past when I still had a singing voice, I often worked wedding anniversary parties with a request for the couple's favourite song. Never been asked to skate at one, though. A couple at our club are having a party to celebrate both their anniversary and the wife's remission from grueling chemotherapy. The club has a dining room overlooking the rink, and the husband asked us to work up a "soft romantic program" to We Have All the Time in the World, to be skated after their dinner. So we haven't had much attention to spare to watch either NHK or Skate America so far. Flattering request, though.

Hmm, without actual proven studies showing the numbers, we are all obviously sharing our opinions and impressions regarding Ilia's popularity or lack thereof. In any case, I was not particularly concerned with debating Ilia's 'importance.' I was responding to the overwrought response a poster made to my earlier offhand humorous comment that was specifically in regard to NBC/ Peacock's annoying coverage of Skate America. Sigh... :palmf:
